We were upgraded to room 5 which is on the second floor. 5 & 6 share a locked deck area and private entrance. The room has three large wide open windows that face the Rio Montezuma and the Sea. The roaring river and crashing waves on the beach drowned out most other noise. The views from our room and deck were spectacular. The room is very private and comfortable and to sit on the deck with a bottle of wine and your loved one and absorb the sounds and views is Amor de Mar

We recently stayed at this paradise away from home and I cannot express how beautiful and relaxing our whole experience was. We stayed in the Casa Luna villa and the first morning I awoke I went out on the porch and thought I had died and gone to heaven! It is breathtaking! We met Ori and her beautiful daughter and also her son who is a local potter. They were charming and so enjoyable. Casa Luna was gorgeous and comfortable. My wife and I slept in one of the smaller air conditioned rooms downstairs while my son and daughter in law had the upstairs bed. To be honest, when we were at the villa we spent most of our time on the balcony and front porch. Otherwise we were exploring all the amazing sights of Montezuma and Costa Rica. We ate breakfast onsite and have to say it was quite delicious and about average price for the area. One note of advice...keep all food in the provided plastic tote,! Be sure to close the windows when you are gone and also at night. We learned the hard way when a monkey come thru an open window and stole a loaf of bread! I could go on and on about our experiences just believe me, you will not be disappointed! Hotel Amor de mar is a dream and we should all have this dream at least once in our lifetimes! We are planning our next stay as I write this!

Stayed here 3 nights. Room #4 is probably the best with an ocean and sunrise view straight off your balcony.
Their breakfast is 7:30-11:00 and is well worth it. Try the fruit with yogurt and granola it’s so fresh and sweet.
Self serve fresh coffee every morning early.
All the office ladies are amazingly kind and helpful. Ammi, Corina and Marlee, they all made our stay comfortable and we felt very welcomed.
You can hike the Montezuma Waterfall across the street (apx 15 min hike and then you can swim and jump off some rocks or the rope swing) there are plentiful pristine beaches all along the coast there.
Try the Cementario Island walk super early and only at LOW TIDE. You’ll get stuck out there if you don’t plan correctly.
Stay at this hotel if I’m Montezuma you’ll love it!

I only went to this hotel to get a session with Cecilia. Walking into the hotel it looked amazing but I can’t say more about the stay however, my session at the Jardín Sanador (they Spa area) was amazing! the location is at a tiny cabana area in front of the beach so just hearing the sound of the sea and palm trees was relaxing. My session was fantastic. Cecilia was so professional, caring, friendly and gentle at all times! Recommended!

The place is clean and you can see the sea from your table.

Food is a little overpriced and not so tasty. The omelette was overcooked. But I was disappointed by the service as they made a mistake and did not apologize.

They ended up correcting the mistake but the feeling was no nice when the waitress said she would pay for the error. I don't think we are coming back.

We are a family of 4 who stayed for 4 nights in room 6. This property is absolutely stunning! The landscaping, hammocks and chairs placed about the backyard are perfect for siting in and listening to the waves and reading a book. Best part for me was listening to the howler monkeys one night under a full moon in a hammock. The restaurant was good, though I wish it would have been open a bit later in the afternoon (closes at 1pm). The room was clean, the a/c was perfect in mid-afternoon heat. Easy 10 minute walk into Montezuma. Would love to come back!

We have been staying at Amor de Mar since 1999 and love it still. While modern amenities like wifi and A/C have been added over the years it still has the secluded natural Costa Rican pura vida charm. The wood exterior and furniture are original and beautiful. The grounds are covered with flowers and birds. The sound of the ocean and the breeze relaxes your mind and soul. Breakfast is a culinary delight, the bread is made fresh each morning. Coffee is brewing with hot leche by 6am . You can lounge in the hammocks by the sea, hike to a waterfall across the street or take a boat to tortuga island and snorkel. The staff are friendly and service is great. The rooms are very comfortable and we will be back next year for sure. Also the have the BEST massages in the area in a private space by the Ocean, Cecila does magic with her hands to heal the body and soul.

We and our friends did not stay at this hotel, but we plan to next year. That’s because, when we had breakfast on two occasions, we were so impressed with the location on the ocean and the beautiful grounds, that we decided to go back and stay there. This decision was also greatly influenced by the exceptional service and friendliness of Corrina, the Manager, as well as other staff. Luis, one of the servers, was amazing. And, by the way, the breakfasts were delicious. We look forward to our return

This is a lovely hotel and we had a thoroughly relaxing time. We recommend the Magnolia room because the views, particularly during sunrise, are stunning. We loved the hammock strewn lawn, the tidal plunge pool and the friendly staff. Very close to restaurants and bars. We particularly recommend Plays de los Artistas for lunch but not the Ylang Ylang.

Beautiful hotel. My family of 5 (kids ages 18, 14, 11) all stayed comfortably in Casa Sol. My oldest slept on the couch on the main level and was very comfortable. Only issue was no fan down there but he was ok. Upstairs the sounds of the ocean and the rain at night were so calming. The noise during the day of the cars and trucks going by the road is an issue but that seems to be the trade off for being so close to town.

We were able to walk into town in less than 5 minutes. The trailhead for the waterfalls are right across the street to the hotel however we never made it up there...too much else to do!

The people running the hotel were very kind and helpful. They helped us organize a horseback riding trip up to the waterfall on the beach. We spent a lot of time in the hammocks on the property reading and playing cards on the front porch.

The capuchin monkeys come right up to the house which is fun and the gardens and breakfast area are just gorgeous. Definitely recommend this place!

We took a commuter flight on Sansa from San Jose to Tambor, which is about a 30 minute/ $50 USD taxi ride away from the hotel. While we did not have any major issues, it is very common for the commuter flights to be rescheduled or delayed by and hour or so. In the rainy season, afternoon flights can often be cancelled due to weather.

Yes, 7mins or so from the drop off, roads are not paved so it's easier to have luggage you can carry. We have done it a bunch of times.
