We have just spent 6 days at this hotel, and this was our second visit. If you are looking for the opportunity to connect with nature, this is the perfect spot. Their location is on the side of a mountain that overlooks the Nicoya peninsula and gulf, and offers great views of the sunset everyday, at an altitude of 700 meters. The resort is owned and operated by a German family. They are the most gracious hosts you can find, and they have a great team helping them run the hotel. They are extremely helpful and always willing to accommodate your requests. Facilities are not fancy, but they are comfortable, kept in good condition and their location is perfect for many different kinds of outdoor activities.

During this last visit, we did the waterfalls tour which includes doing 25 different cable runs (canopy zip lines) and going over 11 waterfalls. A truly unique experience. The layout of the cables is perfect, going right through the forest. The longest run in this tour is about 400 meters. Another activity we did during our visit was the Superman flight. Also, a great experience. You fly over a forested area and in-between trees on a cable that is about 900 meters long. Highly recommended.

The resort offers several other options for outdoor activities which you can customize to your liking, and the hotel team is also very helpful in organizing other tours outside of the resort, like a visit to the local beaches or a tour to Tortuga island or to a Cloud Forest located in one of the local preserves.

Overall, this is a great place if you want to spend time in touch with nature and if you enjoy doing outdoor activities.

My wife and I were vacationing in Jaco with another couple and decided to rent a car to go zip lining at Vista Golfo. We are so glad we made the almost 2 hour drive! It was well worth it! This is exactly the experience we were looking for! We started with a delicious lunch overlooking breathtaking scenery. We then took the ride up to the starting point. The ride over rough mountain terrain was a fun part of the adventure—the views were amazing and we were afforded a glimpse of life in this remote region. After that— 25 lines over 11 waterfalls—the scenery was beautiful and the ride amazing! Emerson, Wagner, and Martin—our guides—were knowledgeable, attentive, and a lot of fun! We were a group of 4 retirees who are in decent shape but still not spring chickens. Our guides were patient and gave clear explicit directions at every station. We felt completely safe in their hands. When we returned to the restaurant/ hotel site we had the opportunity to talk with the owners—a lovely German couple. They were very gracious and welcoming. They shared more about what they offer to visitors. They have a small hotel on site—simple but comfortable. There is a pool, a garden maze, ropes course, and a rock climbing wall. They offer extremely reasonable packages that include hotel stay, zip lining, and other activities.
When we returned to Jaco we were speaking with other travelers who had done zip lining closer to Jaco. When we described our experience the universal response was “Our experience was fun but nothing like that! We wish we had known about Vista Golfo!” If you are traveling to Costa Rica and zip lining is on your list, Vista Golfo is the place to go. It far exceeded our expectations!

This was well worth the drive! My family and I drove almost two hours. We started out with a delicious breakfast served on the balcony overlooking the town and beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. Then the zip line was the best we have ever done. I think 25 or 26 total lines that connect over several waterfalls. What an amazing adventure! We swam in one of the pools at the base of a big waterfall. It was very clean, clear, blue water, so refreshing. Absolutely gorgeous. I will never forget this trip. 10/10 all around, staff, food, experience and safety. The staff are kind, friendly, knowledgeable, safe and very fun. We had a wonderful time! Highly recommend. I will be back!

We just returned from our Panama Canal Cruise. One of our stops was in Puntarenas, Costa Rica where we independently set up our own tour with Hotel Vista Golfo to go ziplining. They met us at the Cruise Ship and transported us to this beautiful quiet resort in the mountains overlooking the ocean. We then saddled up on horses to take us to the first zipline about a 45 minute ride and by no means were these horses trail horses, they wanted to go for a ride. We did the Canopy over 11 Waterfalls with 25 Zips and 2 great repels. We have Ziplined in Belize and Colorado near the Royal Gorge and this was by far the best we have done. We were able to swim at one of the waterfalls, which was refreshing for those that took advantage of it. When we finished they served us a great meal then took us back to the cruise ship after making a quick stop to buy coffee beans at a local store. This was truly a great experience and worth doing. We are thinking about renting one of there rooms and taking our kids back to vacation.

Definitely worth the trip, although while traveling you think the road will never end. The last 3-5 miles are uphill and unbelievably curvy. The hotel itself is typical Costa Rican - hospitable staff, mostly clean and comfortable rooms, and good food. The views from the hotel are amazing, when the clouds clear.

I have been to Costa Rica 7 times, and what sets this place apart is the zip line tour. The adventure is just as promised, a 45-minute horseback ride to over 20 zip lines and two rappels over dozens of breathtaking waterfalls. The guides are helpful and friendly, making this definitely the best Costa Rican adventure we've done. Going during the rainy season means the waterfalls are raging, making it all the more exciting

We spent 3 wonderful nights at Hotel Vista Golfo above Miramar during our 3 week trip to Costa Rica. It was a highlight of the trip.

Vista Golfo is a small, family-owned hotel and adverture park. The porch of our room overlooked the gardens, swimming pool, lobby and restaurant. Beyond that was a beautiful view of the gulf in the distance.

The lobby is covered by a huge tree and you can sit in one of the rocking chairs to watch the sun set over the gulf. At the restaurant we felt like we had our own private chef. The food was incredible and the presentation was a good as any cruise ship we have been on.

Our room had ample space and was very clean. Fresh flowers appeared daily on the small table. No need for airconditioning as the temperatures cooled off in the evening. There was a television and coffee maker in the room. (We mentioned one evening that we were out of coffee filters and by the time we got back to the room, they were already there.) The cost was less than $70 per day and included breakfast.

The 1st night only 1 other room was occupied; the 2nd night, 2 others. The last night (Saturday) there were more people. During the day 'Turismo' vans arrived bringing visitors to enjoy the adventure park. There is a canopy tour, ATV tours, horseback riding, climbing wall, etc. None of this detracted from the peacefulness of the area. We enjoyed simply hiking down to the waterfall on the property or relaxing in a hammock.

Barbara, one of the owners, arranged a day tour to an orchid company for us and also provided transportation. She said the next time we visit just let her know what we want to do and she would make all of the arrangements. All of her staff made certain that we were enjoying ourselves.

If it sounds like we were impressed with Hotel Vista Golfo, we were! We would definitely stay there again.

In the middle of a two week cruise from San Diego to Ft Lauderdale through the Panama Canal we stopped at Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We ( my wife and I, in our sixties) were met by Dietmar Maier, at the end of the pier, just as had been planned and paid for by e-mail two months earlier. He had us driven up the mountain to his hotel where we met his wife Barbara. Dietmar and Barbara own and run the the Hotel Vista Golfo in the mountains above the town of Miramar, about a forty-five minute scenic drive from the Pier. I had originally planned to go horse back riding and then to do 25 zip lines over the canopy and water falls but had recently had a minor injury to a knee and Barbara suggested a slight change in itinerary. She "customized" our trip to favor my injury on the spot and sent the two of us off with three guides. We started out with a little zip line training and then did 11 zip lines with the last one about half a mile long. It was unbelievable. At the end of the last zip line we were met by one of the guides with horses to ride back up to the hotel. Once back at the hotel, Barbara arranged for a fourth guide to take us through an ATV training course. He then took us on a couple of hours tour through the forests and further up the mountain until we could see our ship, off in the mist, miles away. After getting back to the hotel, lunch and cold beer was waiting for us and then after time in the pool, we were driven back down the mountain to the pier and our waiting ship. It was a perfect day and much more fun than the so called zip lines that the cruise line arranged in enclosed gondola cars.

This was the first stop on our Costa Rica vacation. We booked the Gold Package specifically for the zip lining, and were a little disappointed with the experience. The scenery was very nice in the forests and from the hotel, but the group they put us in for the zip line adventure was so large, it took much of the fun out of it. Each line was enjoyable, and the guides (led by Jorge) were friendly, helpful, and very competent. But why in the world did the management allow a group of over 30 people to go at once? About every five lines or so we had a long wait--sometimes as much as half an hour or longer just sitting on the platform waiting for the group to gather. There was nothing the guides could do about this, as they were working on getting everyone through. It really comes down to a management issue. We asked one of the staff if this size of group was typical, and he said it often is during the peak tourist season and he agreed that it really is too many.

We opted for the horseback ride to the beginning of the zip line adventure. It was a typical nose-to-butt trail ride on spiritless horses, and was really more of a pain than a pleasure. I would recommend that guests opt for the 4X4 to the starting point.

The restaurant was fine, the room was adequate, the views were wonderful, and we thought that the Gold Package (including the room, meals, and zip line adventure) was good value for money. Visitors should simply be aware, however, that a large crowd will substantially diminish the enjoyment of the zip lining. I don't know if the earlier adventure is more crowded than the later one, but there is no question that it would be a more enjoyable experience if the management would put a cap on the number who can go on any given adventure--even if this means doing multiple tours per day.

We had better horseback riding and zip lining experiences other places in Costa Rica, but this was not a bad place to start. And you couldn't ask for more friendly, helpful staff. They really were great.

If you are an extreme adventurer, then this is the canopy tour for you. It is 3 activities rolled into one price. A 45 minute horseback ride, then 25 cables (with two rappels) traversing over 11 beautiful waterfalls cascading down the mountain, followed by a delicious lunch. The bilingual staff is very experienced and very friendly. This canopy tour is only an hour 1/2 from Jaco. It's very scenic and well worth the drive. Don't let your hotel fool you to think that it's further, like ours tried to do. They will also provide transportation to and from your resort for an additional fee if you want/need.

Costa Rica’s Hidden Jewel!

This place is a blast! We found it on the Internet while on the cruise ship looking for a zip line at the port. We sent the resort a quick email and they responded quickly arranging to pick us up at the dock.

From the first person we met everything was better than expected. We arrived at the small hotel tucked away in the hills above the bay. The European owner's pride of ownership was apparent in the service and facilities.

From the hotel we got on some good trail horses and road about 45 minutes to the head of the zip line course of 25 zip lines that then made its way down a series of 11 waterfalls. We stopped partway down to swim in a perfect little pool at the base of one of the falls. When it was all over we went back to the hotel and were given a great tasting meal.

This would be nice little spot to stay for a week. We wish we could have stayed longer.
