La Ensenada is both a working ranch and a wildlife refuge. It is not a resort, but its facilities for visitors are adequate and the people are typically welcoming. For example, upon checking in and learning that we are birders, a staff member showed us a roosting Pacific Screech-Owl in a tree near the dining room, a real treat to...

My wife and I have just arrived home in the U.K. from Costa Rica this morning after a birding trip. We stayed in four lodges and this was by far the worst one. The chalets were in a pretty poor state bug infected and needing maintenance. The food was served by what the group called the food police. You had...

Nice chalets with verandas and hammocks set in beautiful surroundings. The gardens are well laid out and attract a good range of birds. There is a swimming pool and great views over the Bay of Nicoya. Although the staff spoke very little English everyone was friendly and helpful. As other reviewers have said, meals are served canteen-style but food is...

Absolutely loved the place. Amazing food too. The lodges are basic but you soon get used to clearing out scorpions and the like before bed! I feared getting eaten alive at night but nothing at all happened! Lovely pool and the views are stunning . Fabulous sights around the area but watch out for crocodiles at the waters edge!! Would...

Relaxed informal lodge, with grand views from comfortable basic cabins, across the grass sweeping down to the Gulf of Nicoya. Howler monkeys walking over the grass and grouped up in the trees. Kiskadees singing out there repetitive call. Food buffet styles withgood plain cooking. Attractive magpie jays a nuisance at mealtimes and sometimes encouraged by guests who wished to photo them on...

We had a great couple of days at this lodge. It was hot but not humid; the swimming pool was very warm but still refreshing! Food was good, as was the bird-watching; the boat trip is particularly to be recommended. Lovely view over the sweep of grass down to the Gulf of Nicoya from the veranda of the chalet. Three...

I am a single woman that traveled to Costa Rica. I stayed at this lodge for three nights. The hotel was beautiful and it seemed as though it was in paradise. The rooms were basic but very comfortable. They did not have air conditioning but were very open to the outdoors with only screens. There were large fans to keep...

We loved this place. The lodging was simple but the views, landscape, and the things to do here were great. We took a boat trip to look at the mangroves and we saw tons of birds. The pool is lovely for relaxing. The food was excellent. The staff was helpful. Not super fancy, but we loved it!

the staff where a bit standoffish at first but became more friendly the longer we were there. Very cut off with very little around and not easy to find on the dirt country roads.Meals served in a canteen style and the open dinning room got attacked by a plague of large black beatles in the evening, but the toads loved...
