We enjoyed our stay in Manuel Antonio at Mango Moon Villa. This was the first stop on our Costa Rican vacation. We were originally supposed to arrive late afternoon but, unfortunately, we missed our morning flight to Costa Rica due to our connecting flight being delayed. With all the confusion at Delta due to the Microsoft error, we considered ourselves lucky to get a seat on an evening flight to Costa Rica the same day. However, that meant we did not arrive at Mango Moon until about 1:30am. Earlier that day, we communicated with the staff who assured us that they would be waiting for us when we arrived. Sure enough, Roberto, the security guard, was waiting for us right at the door when we pulled up and was very friendly and helpful with showing us to our rooms. We ended up with two adjoining rooms which I believe was different than what we had booked but we were fine with it because there were two bathrooms which was very convenient. My only complaint is that the water in one of the bathrooms was not consistently warm. (I did not inform the hotel staff about this because it wasn't that significant of a problem.)

The next morning, we left extremely early for our tour of Manuel Antonio. (We had an excellent tour guide and I am happy to pass along his information if you contact me!). That evening, we were looking forward to having dinner at the Mango Moon restaurant but, unfortunately, it was not open that night. We were disappointed, especially because we were exhausted and would have preferred to eat at the hotel. We did enjoy a swim in the pool and breakfast the next morning was great.

Our stay at Mango Moon was overall excellent. The staff was very friendly, the facilities were good and the view was amazing. We stayed at this hotel about 16 years ago when we first visited Costa Rica and it was fun to come back.

I can’t begin to explain the magic of Mango Moon! The entire staff are like one family and you can see how much they care for the property. The owner( I’m so bad with names) is such a wonderful women and was always around to answer questions and of course make sure the unbelievable Korean BBQ was the most delicious we have ever had. The room was perfect with a hammock on the porch that I fell asleep in listening to the sound of the rain in the afternoon . We saw so many animals from our balcony including scarlet macaws, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, agouti, and of course our favorite the not so wild Lucky the dog:) The pool was also amazing. When we go back we will definitely stay here again!!!

We took a lot of time researching the best hotel for our 1 week getaway and time and again the Mango Moon Villa came up as the best option for our budget and our needs. We wanted to see wildlife and prefer a boutique hotel to a large corporate chain.
Fran and her son Jake ( and Lucky, their sweet rescue dog) run the best secret in Manuel Antonio. As many other have already reviewed the views are out of this world. We stayed in the superior ocean view room and it did not disappoint. The room, with it vaulted ceilings and original Costa Rican wood furniture amplified the authentic experience. We saw our share of macaws, squirrel monkey’s and howler monkey’s too. We had a regular visit from a neighbourly toucan who liked to visit a particular room daily. There were little lizards, fresh star fruit from the tree in the back and wonderful staff who always made sure we had what we needed.
The breakfasts were filled with fresh fruits, an omelette station, granola, yogurt, jams and toast, fresh juices and more.
We had an unforgettable time..
There are many beaches to visit by foot but if walking steep inclinations is not your thing you can also access some beaches via the city bus which runs every 20 minutes and is very safe. You can also opt for a taxi but for us, taking the bus added to the experience. There are many delicious restaurants in the vicinity including the Carambola (Mango Moon’s Korean restaurant) Fran the owner I heard brings to the table many secret family recipes.
One week wasn’t nearly enough time to explore everything, but we will be back.
My only complaint was that the mattress I slept in was uneven and probably needed to be replaced and after I communicated the issue with Fran she said she would make sure it was taken care of.
If you’re travelling with teens I highly recommend suite 7 (the gecko suite).
You can’t help but fall in love with it all..

We booked the Mango Moon Hotel for a stay earlier this month as part of our trip to Costa Rica. Unfortunately, there were severe rains and major flooding throughout western Costa Rica. In fact, the government declared a National Emergency for the west coast. The highways to the West coast were closed due to major mudslides on the day were scheduled to drive to The Mango Moon. We called the hotel and told them we could not make the trip due to the roads and asked for a refund of our money. The person who answered the phone said they would pass along the message. I also sent an email through Booking.com with the same information. We never received a response from the hotel and never received a refund. To be fair, we were outside the cancellation window. I would have hoped that given the circumstances, the hotel would have at least responded to our inquiries and tried to work with us. Once the roads reopened we were able to travel to that part of the country and stayed at a different hotel.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE. We stayed only one night but wish we could have stayed more. We will be back to stay longer next time. The wonderful staff met us and lead us to watch a beautiful sunset and see monkeys just off the balcony. Once checked in our room was quaint and comfortable. Our family took dinner in the restaurant which is a unique and excellent Korean barbeque. The location is near the national park which but we saw more diverse species at Mango Moon Villa while we relaxed in the pool and on the balconies. What a wonderful family owned business.

The place was magical!! If you are on the fence BOOK It! Clean place, friendly staff, all the wildlife, and felt very safe here. It was just wow! Also it is walking distance to great restaurants, shopping, and a close bus station which was easy to take to the national park! We also walked down to the beach plays biesanz and it took about 15 minutes but was all downhill, which was a farther walk but enjoyed the adventure on the way back we stopped in somewhere for a cocktail to break it up lol. This place was so special! The complimentary breakfast every morning was also very delicious and perfect to get your adventure started. I can't say enough about how perfect this place was. Waking up to the sounds of the wildlife and this view was just amazing and felt like a dream. Each morning sitting on the private patio. The bed was comfortable, shower water was perfect every time, air conditioning worked great. Nothing had to say about our stay. We had the two bedroom family suite which was perfect to share with my friend so we had our own space but still stayed together I liked how spacious the room was.

Mango Moon was truly a dream! My boyfriend and I just returned from a 5 night stay and would go back tomorrow if we could. Everyone was incredibly nice, the rooms were comfy & clean, the food was great, there was an abundance of wildlife, and the views were fantastic. Great location as well-walking distance to multiple local bars/restaurants and a short walk to the local bus that will take you to the beach or in to Quepos for ~$1 per person. I could go on and on. So happy we stayed here!

We ended up falling in love with Mango Moon. The location and views are absolutely unbeatable for the price you pay. Our favorite beach among the four or five we visited was just a 10 minute walk down a dirt road to a basically private beach with amazing beaches and waves with surf board and boogie board rentals.

Mornings at MM were charming. Free Costa Rican breakfast with delish coffee, three species of monkeys, and breathtaking views of the beach were almost too much to take in.

I am glad that Jake and his staff have managed to keep the hotel running through the devastating pandemic. Now that things seem to be picking up, it would be advisable to tackle some of the deferred maintenance and put in some good elbow grease to polish the place up.

Although I did not stay at the Mango Moon hotel, my wife & I did eat at the restaurant on-site, the Carambola Seafood & Korean BBQ Restaurant. We were very impressed by the high quality of the food and drinks. The menu offered a large selection, and both the owner and his mother were friendly and assisted us in making selections. The experience was quite enjoyable.

We loved our time at Mango Moon! We were in room 11, which is like a treehouse - glass sliders on one side look right out into the trees and the gardens below, and it is lovely to hang out on the balcony and just soak it all in. They call it Howler Hangout but rather than monkeys (which did show up one day while we were having breakfast) there are two toucans that hang out there all the time on the balcony. The staff was really nice and helpful - TJ who checked us in was great, friendly and efficient. Joselyn helped us with information and reservations, including transport on our final day back to the airport. Franco at the bar was the best! Great drinks and service. The view from this place is just beautiful, you enjoy meals in the restaurant and bar looking out over the forest to the sea below. Its a long walk to the beach and would be an even longer haul back up, but busses are easy to grab and a short drive to the closest playa. The only complaint we had, and we almost didnt rate it a five star because of it, is maintenance... the screen door didnt close all the way, no screens on the little windows in the bathroom, a hole in the flashing under the door, and a few other easy fixes that would really help in the room. Housekeeping does a good job keeping it clean, but I think they could use a maintenance person. That said, the views, the staff, the location, all were awesome and we will return as soon we can manage it!

Those toucans are still knocking on the window of the room you stayed everyday! It is our morning conversation among the guests. Macaws and toucans are busy crossing our backyard. Thanks for your tips on repairs. After 2 years of hiatus (due to covid) we are in full gear to get the place updated. Hopefully you will return soon find much improved rooms and grounds. Thanks again for noticing my wonderful staffs. They are genuinely happy to serve our guests!

Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica33 contributions
This is Fran from Mango Moon. We have parking for our guests in front of the building. We cud reserve a spot for you if you requested but we never had parking issues so far. There are 2 beaches that are very close by us. Both takes about 25-20 min walk. One is easier walk than the other but we recommend both of you have time. You can drive your car right onto the Playita beach and drive right up to the entrance of the Biesanz beach. Hope this was helpful!
