This place is FANTASTIC! The grounds are well kept and filled with wildlife. Monkeys Toucans and Macaus were literally at the window. The food was great! The ambience is definitely First Class. The staff is super friendly and well trained. People like Sam , Andreas , Tommy,Randall and Jorge made my stay so enjoyable ! I am recovering from an ankle surgery so they were so attentive and caring to me . They let me live in Pura Vida! I found it was worth every thing we spent . Though we did support the lical restaurants more as i like going to the local restaurants. The couple meals and drinks i had there was quite good, though expensive. But it is a five star resort so i guess thats why their prices are high. But the quality is good 👍 Pura Vida to all !…

My wife and I went to Hotel Makanda for our 25th anniversary. I researched dozens of hotels and made the reservation 1 year prior to our visit. The hotel is beautiful, the staff friendly, the rooms are very nice. My concern is that the hotel never informed me that a maintenance crew of a dozen or so workers would be working literally feet from my hotel room Mon-Sat for 8-10hrs a day with loud power tools. The hotel manager, Leo Carvajal, avoided my repeated requests to meet in person and wrongly assumed that the email I received just days before my departure noting some maintenance work sufficed for ruining a $20,000 vacation experience. Hotel credit for future use was the offer...useless. Mr Carvajal had an opportunity to make it right but chose not to. I hope my sharing helps you choose better. Avoid this hotel.…

This place was really magical. You’re inside the rainforest with tons of wildlife and nature. The rooms are spacious and designed to perfection. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The views from everywhere on the property are stunning.

Stunning views and beautiful animals all around! 5 stars room surrounded by gorgeous jungle. Private beach with swings and drinks. 2 breath taking pools with a swim up bar. Staff is super friendly and helpful! Front desk booked all our activity’s in town and were top notch. Truly one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been to!

Absolutely Stunning 5-Star Hotel. Pure luxury from the smallest of details all the way up to the overall property design. Sky Penthouse was completely private, immaculately designed, with every amenity available. Walls are soundproof so no chance of disturbing other guests. Wrap around balcony with private pool and several seating options comes with breathtaking view. All the doors open facing towards the ocean so you can bath in the soaking tup, sleep in the bed, lay on the couches, or eat at the table....all with the breeze coming in from the fully collapsable walls/doors. Fully stocked mini bar with snacks, yoga mats, umbrellas, beach bag, all organic toiletries. Room, bathroom, and private pool were all spotless. Food, whether eating at the restaurants or in-room was perfectly cooked with the highest quality ingredients and options for everyone. Every employee we encountered greeted us with a smile and helping attitude. Service was immediate and attentive, as you would expect from a property of this caliber. They always went above and beyond. The pools/spas are clean, elegantly designed, and come with stellar panoramic views of the ocean. Drinks are absolutely delicious and made with the utmost of skill. Margaritas were the best we both had ever had. Concierge promptly takes care of any reservations, arrangements, or activity bookings to ensure a completely stress free experience. This was our 4th time staying at Makanda by the Sea and it just continues to get better and better. In fact we almost never left the property. We pretty much ate all our meals including breakfast lunch and dinner (and happy hour!) Joshua and Jorge made us feel at home and became friends. They really made the dining experiences amazing. The menu and food preparation were varied and perfect. The rooms are over the top elegant and well appointed. We had a balcony overlooking the jungle. Over the three days we observed squirrel, capuchin, and howler monkeys on the hotel grounds and were entertained by fiery-billed aracari's from the main pool over the jungle. Several pairs of Scarlett Macaws flew by one morning squawking!

Makanda is one of the most magical places I've ever visited. I'm a travel agent and have been to many amazing places over the years but have never stayed anywhere where the staff were so warm and friendly making you feel like family, not just another hotel guest. We spent 4 nights in the Sky Penthouse this past week and loved every minute. Thank you again, for everything you all did to make our anniversary trip one to remember. Pura Vida.
