We burned through 14 extravagant days in Makanda. My significant other and I travel a great deal and it was perhaps the best lodging we have at any point remained in. You could generally find an incredible spot either by the pool or around the ocean. We likewise never needed to hold back to find a spot at the table. The pool is very profound (8 feet) with a not extremely shallow end. Pool music was great and not very noisy! We both cherished it. The spa administration was perfect."

This is perhaps the most physically magnificent hotel we've seen anywhere in the world. The exterior and interior designs are spectacular. Every detail everywhere is perfect. We were happy to just walk around (in the rain) and enjoy the vision that someone (sadly no one could tell us who designed the hotel) created. Wood, stone, tile, bamboo etc are infused together in perfect style. Can you tell we love design? The facility is hilly and steps are steep - especially to the beach (but cart service is available). Only 2 bottled waters are provided and there is no shop/store on the premises. For $500+ a night there should be turn down service. The spa building was closed because a tree fell on it. We had a damaged chair and door in our room that never got repaired. Our room had a spectacular view beyond the plunge pool but no curtains so difficult to sleep at sunrise. Electronic problems abound - our door lock stopped working, the fingerprint in-room safe failed, restaurant and room service iPads with menus and billing failed frequently, wifi service was slow, and we lost power a couple of times. No flashlight is provided but we had our own. Our plunge pool water was not heated as is the mineral water in the plunge pool at Nayara. The restaurants were very good and the pools enjoyable. The private beach was nice but lots of big rocks in the water making it difficult/dangerous to walk in the ocean. The staff tried very hard but there are some rough edges that need some smoothing out to provide a true 5 star experience. But still the beauty of this place makes it a place to try when in the area. (The hotel also set us with with an exceptional tour of the park).

We can not thank Makanda family enough for making us feel like family. We had the most amazing time at Makanda. Everyone made us feel at home. Thanks, Darwin,Chris,Amanda,Alex,Pablo, and Jorge. All so amazing. So happy to help make our time memorable. We had personal touches to every experience with each staff member. Getting inside scoop of what to do, where the wildlife is, and best tours to take. Makanda is one of a kind. The architecture is jaw dropping amazing and the landscaping is all perfect. Everything is spaced out perfectly, this is truly a magical place in the jungle of Manuel Antonio. When we met people in town or on the beach and mentioned we are staying at Makanda, all the responses were oh that is the best hotel in all of Manuel Antonio. I think its best in all of Costa Rica. Last thing to touch on is the food and atmosphere. The chefs at Makanda are top notch and we caught mahi on a fishing trip and they absolutely made the best dishes with our fish. The attentiveness of the staff and willingness to make sure you are take care of is off the charts amazing… this place is 5 star Michelin worthy. Pura Vida Makanda Family, and thank you. Until next time. With love, Jason and Lindsie Room 19

We had the most beauriful view of the ocean, with a huge room and balcony where we were visited by monkeys. The grounds were clean and beautiful. The staff friendly and very helpful. This hotel was close to many attractions. Zip lining was across the street and some really good restaurants just up the street, all within walking distance. Our room was huge, with a king size bed and queen. We had a full kitchen, safe, and balcony overlooking the ocean. The pool area was well kept and clean. If you want a true Costa Rican experience this is the hotel for you!
