I have traveled a few times to Costa rica and this was my second visit to Manuel Antonio Quepos. I generally stay in air bandbs, but as it was my birthday present to me, I chose Verde Mar for its proximity to Manuel Antonio Park and the beach. I do liek to travel on the shoulder season, it gives me a great choice of options and deals. The lovely Women at Verde Mar upgraded my room for my birthday and I was lucky enough to have room 109 right beside the beach and a step from the pool. It was beyond words lovely. I was treated so kindly. The room was spotless, the bed and linens great. There is a small restaurant, with a great tipico breakfast, they also serve lunch. AC , a ceiling fan, a kitchenette and coffee maker..what more can you want!!?
We had a pool view and stayed 3 nights and ended up coming back for a further 2 nights at the end of our trip. Arelene and the other staff were very very helpful and more than accommodating. On the last day we were there the monkeys showed up and it was a very entertaining event. You are almost right on the beach! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! PURA VIDA! 💋💋❤️❤️😘😜
I booked this hotel because of it’s affordability and it’s proximity to the beach. The really nice hotels are up on the hill, & offer shuttle to the beach. I like to hear the sound of the surf, so I booked Mar Verde. For my 5 year old daughter & I, this was the best choice...we went back & forth to the beach for 3 days (surf lessons) and then walked to Manuel Antonio park the last day. This is not a fancy hotel, but the staff is friendly enough and price is right. The pool was important for my daughter. Restaurants are expensive, so, after eating dinner out once, we walked to the nearby grocery store and stocked our kitchenette. The only serious negative about this hotel is the breakfast/lunch restaurant. Seems a family leases the restaurant space on the hotel grounds. Food is mediocre at best. People running it are nice enough, but way too expensive for the poor quality...stock your fridge, you’ll be much better off!! Plus the restaurant is closed for dinner, so when it rains, you’ve got to catch a cab or Uber somewhere for dinner.
This hotel is perfect if you want basic accommodations on the beach. The bed was clean and comfortable. The staff was welcoming and friendly. It was slow season but they allowed me access to the beach and parking for the day after checking out. And I got to see monkeys. I would definitely return.

As a smoker who stayed there i would say go out by the beach. Less than 200’ from any room. Beautiful view. In july at least they wouldnt reopen the gate (with electronic lock) until 6 am or after 10 or 11 but if you dont close it all the way it doesnt lock. Or you have to walk around the side and through the lobby 400’ max. Dont sweat it. Cr is not smoker friendly but neither is the US! Its an ok hotel right on the water 1/4 mile from entrance to m.a. np.
