If you want to visit Malpaís or Santa Teresa and need a place to stay, definitely I recommend you the Hotel The Place. My wife and I had a good experience there, good breakfast. It also has a place where you to cook in case you need. In general, very good choice.
We loved staying in the bungalow! The breakfast every morning was delicious. We loved ordering off the menu. The entire staff was very helpful! Setting us up with tour ideas and directions and the ATV. We loved renting an ATV from the hotel to use around town. We highly recommend this hotel!
There is no Television in the room, and that is not known during reservation. Other than that staff were great and very friendly. The hotel is nice. Breakfast was minimal to a selection of one main plate and a selection of juice or fruits.
The Place is a small boutique hotel 100 m to the small commercial center of Santa Teresa/Mal Pais and 200m to the Santa Teresa beach. We rented a bungalow which wasan open space with one double bed in one corner, two single beds in the opposite corner and a closed bathroom in the middle. It was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. There are comfortable chairs is relaxing music around the pool. The breakfast is excellent. The staff is friendly and very useful. Service can be slow however as there is only one person at any time. The WI-FI reception in our bungalow was minimal and we had to stay around the pool for a reliable reception, which was OK. My only deception was the quality of the toilet paper, thin as rice paper, surprising at such a place. I would recommend buying your own at the nearby convenience store. Overall, pleasant and good value for money.…
My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night at the tail end of our trip. The grounds are beautiful. As you enter you are greeted by a beautiful mosaic tile pool. The choice of green tile makes the pool feel very much like a lagoon. It is surrounded by beautiful plants and beach chairs. And feels like a little oasis between the sandy towns of Santa Teresa and Mal Pais There are also covered seating areas nearby with white curtains and red pillows, where you can get away from the sun. As well as a shaded bar right near the pool. Some things you should know before you book: 1) Breakfast is included and delicious! 2) You cannot flush toilet paper, this is true of EVERY establishment in this part of Costa Rica, including the $500 a night resorts. All of the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and we enjoyed our stay very much.…
The Place is great for families and close to the amenities in the Malpais/Santa Teresa area, banks, pharmacy,... It has a beautiful pool lounge area that serves breakfast and lunch. Hotel and restaurant guests can use pool in the beautiful tropical surroundings. The staff are super nice and helpful, tasty poolside food, great smoothies and cold beer at this spot. Whenever my family is in the area we have many poolside lunches at The Place.
The hotel rooms are charming, comfortable, and clean. We particularly liked the location as it is a five minute walk from the beach and great restaurants. Close to everything you need but far enough away that it was quiet at night.
We had a wonderful, memorable two night stay here at The Place. We basically had the place to ourselves during green season in August, staying in one of the bungalows, which are spacious and clean. The pool area and breakfast area are just beautiful, and the breakfast included on the rate is delicious. We found the staff to be just the right balance between attentive and friendly and also respectful of privacy. I would definitely re-visit. One note for the faint-hearted- we did find a (harmless) scorpion in our room, (it's quite normal during rainy season for creatures to find their way inside,) so just be sure to double check around your room to ensure a restful night's sleep.
It's actually really in boho surf Santa Teresa but who cares, about anything, like everything in this laid back paradise...... The bungalows are beautifully appointed, better than the photos to be honest with lots of space, crisp white linen and an amazing cleaning team that could even handle my teenage kids clothes hurling skills and made our place immaculate everyday. We went low season so there was no bar or restaurant in the evening but ST is teeming with great ones just 100m up the brown lumpy thing that passes as a road. It's also just a short stroll past the howler monkeys to the beach and the rock pools that Annabelle and Chocolate her friendly dog can point you to. Breakfast was great with a big plate of fruit, great Costa Rican coffee and a good range of al a cartel choices which was a real pleasure after weeks of hotel buffets. Having said that, the kids had the quesadilla every single day after tasting them once - totally devine. The pool is simple but perfect temperature and quiet with a water feature and plenty sun beds as well as thoughtful and cool curtained sofa areas where we pink Brits can shade from the full sun when needed and listen to the cool and eclectic music that again wax a real joy after the hotel piped junk! The Place organised trips for us - fishing in kayaks with Martin and Pablo which was brilliant - as everyone who knows me knows, I got a whopper, see below. Also surfing with Lolo, horse riding on the beach and atv hire which is a must do. What was great however is that they weren't hotel trip pimps - they got us great deals with people they knew and trusted. It's a small place and they've chosen wisely as every trip was chilled, hassle free and great value, arranged only when asked for, not sold. That's rare. thank you for a very special few days. We loved it. And good luck Yvonne with your next chapter - ST will miss you.…
A mere 3 minute walk to St Theresa beach, Hotel The Place is at an ideal location. Initially assigned a room, we upgraded to a delightful bungalow with a beautifully decorated bedroom and spacious bathroom. Breakfast was absolutely divine (included) and Annabel was a wonderful hostess. She helped us with directions and planning and even stayed late our first night to await our arrival from Nosara. We also spent some time talking with the owner, who was also very pleasant. The semi-outdoor dining area and the pool were meticulous. Dinner is not served here but there is a bar with daily drink specials. Excellent music playing all day as well. We would love to be back here some day. Highly recommended!
