Mal Pais is a not a town or village, rather it's a cross-roads. But for die-hard surfers, its close to paradise. We stayed in Moana Lodge, which is about 5 minutes drive from the cross-roads. The Lodge is self sustaining, with a pool and restaurant. The restaurant was excellent. In fact, we had some of our best meals in Costa...

My wife and I stayed at the Moana Lodge for the beginning of our honeymoon, we should have done it at the end because we didn't want to go anywhere else. This truly is paradise! The rooms are great, with amazing views, and the restaurant is good too. Aiden, the owner that was at the front desk the whole time,...

we began our 10-day vacation in costa rica in mal pais at the moana lodge, and in hindsight, would have been more than happy to have stayed there for the entire trip. definitely worth the drive off (or literally, on) the beaten path. gorgeous beaches, breathtaking views, and a most comfortable overall hotel experience. the food at the lodge is...

This lovely hotel has great-sized, comfortable rooms with amazing views out to sea over the jungle canopy. It was great to retreat back to after a dusty day out and about. We'd sit on the balcony, beer in hand and watch the sun set over the sea. The restaurant was great, serving a great selection of international food which again,...

We stayed at the Moana Lodge for our last 2 nights on our trip to Costa Rica. We stayed in the Junior Suite 1 night and the Master Suite our 2nd night. Both were VERY comfortable and had the best beds we stayed in. I almost did not want to leave the rooms which is hard to say when visiting...

My husband, 21 year old daughter and myself had a great stay at the Moana Lodge. We lloved every minute here, from the delicious breakfasts every morning to relaxing on the swinging beds by the pool. The owners, Aiden and Vickie were so nice and helped us out with anything we needed. We were bummed about them not serving dinner...

We had a reservation in a different hotel nearby but were not thrilled when we arrived. So we decided to check out some other places in the area, and happened upon the Moana Lodge. We drove up to the reception area and were greeted by the owner, who was happy to show us 2 rooms. The rooms were nicely decorated,...

My husband and I stayed in a junior suite for 3 nights in March. We ferried across to Paquera with our rental 4x4 and drove to Mal Pais. Roads turn to dirt after Cobano and the last half hour is hard going but we found the hotel no problem. Word of warning - to get the amazing views of the...

We stayed at Moana for 10 nights in March and absolutely loved it! We experienced each member of the hotel staff, including the owners' Aidan and Vicky, as professional, attentive, respectful and very friendly. The exceptionally warm and courteous energy we constantly received from the Moana crew made us feel like we were staying at a relative's estate! After each...
