Pia will greet you when you arrive and Andrew takes care of all the online logistics. I LOVED being up where all I heard was jungle sounds. Every other place we stayed had road noise. The pool was wonderful and we used it daily either in the evening or before it was in full sun. The environs were well taken care of. I have been to Costa Rica previously and had some properties that were let go. The gardens are beautiful around the pool and the trails to the rooms. The rooms are beautifully decorated. We loved sitting outside at night and listening to the jungle sounds. Oh and morning breakfast was lovely. And ask about Secret Beach! Best place I have ever snorkelled!! Bring some extra colones as there are honest Costa Rican's watching your car for you and you will want to tip. And you can head to Montezuma Falls for the day. Montezuma is a quaint town with a beautiful beach and you can easily spend a day here. Lots to do nearby. We loved spending evenings on the beaches when it was cooler. Oh and the hiking trail on the property was awesome! We stayed 3 nights but could easily have stayed longer.

My partner and I LOVED the jungle lodge! We were initially booked for two nights, but decided to extend by a third night because we had such a lovely time. The lodge is tucked away into the jungle and it feels like you're nowhere near civilization when you're relaxing by the gorgeous pool. But you're also only about a 5 minute ride to the beach (a $10 cab in case you don't want to drive) and about 15 minutes away from some of the best restaurants. We enjoyed our stay here because it is quiet, has extensive hiking trails, the staff are beyond wonderful and helpful, and we wanted to experience waking up to the sounds of the jungle. The rooms were very basic and a bit dated but still very comfortable. One morning we even had a flat tire and both the owner and one of the other guests were so helpful and changed our tire for us! Another couple staying at the lodge were leaving that morning and so they waited for us and made sure we got to a gas station safely before they went on their way! What could have been a terrible experience ended in us feeling so well taken care of. We HIGHLY recommend staying here if you want the best of beach and jungle in Costa Rica!

What more can I say, 3 nights of pure bliss. A jungle/forest retreat, surrounded by many acres of their own land. Bungalow type rooms with their own veranda; sitting outside just listening to the sounds of the jungle is a pleasure. They have a 3 mile nature trail through their grounds and a swimming pool, perfect at the end of a hot day. The host, Pia, is extremely knowledgeable about the area as is the owner Andrew. I really recommend a few nights here to totally experience Costa Rica at its best.

Star Mountain Lodge is a spectacular hidden gem, nestled in a jungle paradise, surrounded my all that nature has to offer. I loved eating breakfast on the patio, being visited by birds and animals, while listening to the sounds of the jungle. I can't wait to go back to visit the lodge, and explore more of Mal Pais. I highly recommend this idyllic hideaway! The horse treks along the beach were amazing.

We were a group of 14–4 families that all had a recent graduate and this was a trip to celebrate and to let the kids have fun before they all head in different directions. We had the entire resort. Pia and Rafael (the caretakers) took such good care of everything and were good at communicating with us. We very much enjoyed the pool, the hike around the property (worked up a sweat, but were rewarded by a spectacular view), took a horse ride led by Rafael and loved waking up to the sound of howler monkeys. We saw howler monkeys on the property—including one cheekily little one who grew tired of us taking pictures and threw a mango at us! LOL!! We also saw coatis, capuchin monkeys and many many beautiful birds. This is not the lap of luxury, but is such a special place. I would stay here again! I would also highly recommend the little restaurant at the bottom of the hill run by Mayli. One night, we had her make us dinner and we ate it at Star Mountain. It was the best meal that we had in Costa Rica.
