Detailed Reviews
We spent in Room2Board Hostel and Surf School 5 days.
Very clean room, clean bedding, good location, to the ocean only 1 min. walk, great kitchen, lots of different dishes, clean pool, fun and very friendly and helpful all staff. We are both wheelchair users and wonderful staff Franco brought us a special water wheelchair, he borrowed a wheelchair from his friend. The owner of the hostel Brian made us a discount.
Only, since we were living in a room for the disabled, I would like to make a few observations: 1. you must have a special shower chair for disabled people; 2. there must be an additional handle on the side of the toilet; 3. the mirror is very high, it is necessary to mount the mirror at the level of the person sitting in the wheelchair.
But at all, we are very happy we stayed there. Overall good hostel and would recommend and stay again.
Pura Vida!!!

+1
Room2Board is a class act beachfront hostel that has claimed its own spot in Jaco. Away from the business of the main strip, Room2Board offers comfortable shared or private rooms with a view in front of a pumping surf break.
The bathrooms include showers; additionally, there are common cooking areas, outdoor showers, a beautiful pool, restaurant and bar. For remote workers the co-working space is bar-none. You can stash your stuff in a locker to keep it safe, rent a board from the surf shop if you need one, take a lesson, book a tour, you name it.
The prices are competitive and a real deal for what you get. If you are a budget traveler, stay in a shared room for under $20. If price isn't an object, stay more luxuriously in a private room. The owner Brian takes pride in his masterpiece accommodation and his friendly staff hails from all over the world. You will be content to just hang in the bar/restaurant area all day long or relaxing in the state of the art pool.
Hands down one of the best places to stay in Jaco. As an experienced hosteler, I can confidently say that Room2Board's value can not be beat.

Steps from the beach, beautiful views, great activities and staff.
This IS a hostel with a shared kitchen, cowork space, and dorm style rooms, but you can also book a private room with private bathroom and shower for a great rate.
The kitchen was immaculately clean (as were the entire grounds) which is so rare for a hostel.
Staff was super friendly.
Will definitely be back!

I only stayed 3 nights but will definitely come back ! Spick and span dorms, comfy beds, super clean bathrooms, huge hangout spaces, a roof top from where you can see the beatiful sunset, a huge living room where digital nomads can work, large terraces in front of the dorms. etc. Few meters from the beach where you can surf or play with the waves and see small manta rays jumping high. Nice music all day long at the nice pool, but not too loud : noise does not reach the rooms. Rather small kitchen. Safe area very close to the main road. Very quiet environment. This place is really amazing : trust me, I'm 63 years old from Switzerland and I've seen so many places and hostels that I can assure that this is a MUST ! Hike up to the mountain at 6 am with the owner, refreshing experience. Excellent Soda for huge casados : Los Manitos, very close by.

I loved my stay here. The staff are lovely, facilities great, there is an (albeit small) kitchen and the views from the roof at sunset are spectacular! Yes, it is a party hostel so it can be loud by the pool during the day. However, the music is turned off at 11pm when people get shuttled into town so you can still have a good sleep here if you want it. Happy hour and the Cantina bar in the city are a win too and are great if you want to socialise. I found it really hard to leave!

Excellent place. The room was comfy, the location was a quick few steps to the beach where there were smaller waves for learning plus surfboards for rent and lessons if you wanted. Food at their bar was good and a great pool to swim in if you got tired of the beach. Most of all the owner, Brian was very welcoming and helpful. Super chill place and highly recommended.

Let me preface by saying this is my first stay in a real hostel and I absolutely enjoyed it. I'm hesitant about 5 star reviews but I couldn't find anything that warranted decreasing a star. Unfortunately, I didn't find it until my last night in town so only spent one night. I was pleasantly surprised that it was only steps away from the beach. Room2Board totally defied my antiquated stereotypical view of a hostel being dingy, dirty, outdated and most of all creepy. It is everything but that. I stayed in a 4 bed room. It had a locker next to the bed and a outlet in the locker. It was ensuite so it had a nice but most importantly clean bathroom and shower. R2B had a swimming pool that looked tempting but time didn't permit me to use it but saw others enjoying it. I did get a chance to have a couple of drinks at the bar and met some really cool people. I didn't really figure out how the breakfast thing went but there was a kitchen. There was a cool co-working area with plenty of seats. There was also a rooftop deck with an Ocean view. Some other offerings that I didn't get a chance to take advantage of was the morning rooftop yoga, surf shop and surfing lesson. The staff was super. Great attitudes and very helpful. The best thing was about was price. At those prices, I could spend the whole Winter well Summer there on the beach. It is definitely on my list of places to return. I definitely recommend it.

This is the fourth time I've returned to this hostel, and this time I worked remotely for 6 months. I must say that it was an awesome experience. The staff is friendly, the volunteers are wonderful, the owner is there every day to make sure things go smoothly, and it was a very safe place to ride out the pandemic. My room was cleaned regularly and it had a really comfortable bed. I used the wifi during my working hours from my room, the rooftop, the co-work space, and the restaurant, depending on where I wanted to relax, and it was nice to have options. I was able to sleep every night even though I'm a light sleeper because they enforce quiet hours after 11pm. Another bonus is that I could grab a board and surfing every day and catch a great sunset. I also hung out in the pool a lot and met a bunch of cool people. There's a kitchen to cook meals in and a pool that's always clean. Coming here was a great decision.

Cons:
Kitchen is so shabby and dirty. Cooking tools haven’t changed since years. It was really disgusting.
Refrigerator are totally full. No space at all.
Next to the hostel are couple of roosters living. They start singing like crazy at 4-5 am. So no good sleep possible here.
Wifi signal is poor or not existing in Rooms. Only at the bar or the workspace area.
Workspace area feels like a Sauna. They dont turn on the AC. You need to pay for the AC.
The charge guests 1 Dollar for an empty cup with ice.
Food is totally overpriced. Quality is poor.
Bike rent is 15€ per day. What you get is a bike that is in total 15€ worth.
Pros:
Room was clean. Pool area was clean.

Great facilities, clean room, nice pool and bar area. The rooftop patio is nice and relaxing with hammocks the hostel is located near the beach and a relatively short walk to the city center. I stayed midweek and it was a very calm, relaxing environment but have heard it can be quite busy on the weekends. I would definitely stay again.

Hi,
First of all it is not my hostel.
I was a guest as you.
Second, as mention before it depands if you pay the extra money for the inssurance.
Either way from my point of view the hotel as no responsibility for this kind of cases.
But you can advise with the hotel.
I'm sure they will be willing to help
You can get off at MasXmenos. You can always take a $ 2 taxi from any stop to the hostel
Hola, Are you looking to stay in a private room or a dorm room? The dorm rooms are only $17 with out ac and $22 with AC. The rooms do not include anything unless they specifically say so. The prices are pretty competitive for hostels in Jaco. Surf lessons are perfect for beginners - Playa Jaco is the best beach for people to learn to surf.
Pura Vida,
Susan
