Booked a room and was not told about the pre-planned highway closure. Was promised and assured that I could have used the night I paid for on a different day in the near future instead of a refund. When I tried to call in and stay I was greeted with an incredibly rude staff and combative tone. I was never given the night I paid for and I was refused a discount. A great combination of deceit and unprofessionalism. Beware. Sidenote- They do not answer the phones often- They hang up- Booked through booking.com- no mention of highway closures ( which is a weekly occurrence )
This hotel is located right on the beach, although you cant see the ocean from all the rooms, you can from the restaurant and the bar. The staff are amazing. Repeatedly went out of their way to make sure everything was good. Even arranged excursions for us as our Spanish is not the best. Would totally recommend staying here.
From the minute we checked in, we felt at home and very welcomed. Josh at the front desk is first class. Good guy, plenty of eye contact, not in a hurry to rush you but definitely appreciates YOUR time. Check in was seamless, even though we changed our reservation. Beautiful property! Well kept. Not new but great vegetation and right on the beach. Jesus, the bartender, could not have been more helpful. The property is a great place for kids. Breakfast was very good. No one pushed outside activities but made us well aware that if you wanted to do something outside the property, they could accommodate. I heard other guests raving about their experiences. Go see Josh at South Beach Hotel - He'll take care of you!
We booked our stay bc of the location on the south end of the beach, which is our preference as the beach sand is smooth, less rocky than the North end. This was our first trip to CR at the end of December and had we known that the rest of the country was also vacationing in Jaco, we would have likely selected another date to arrive. The management spoke English so that was a plus as well. The included breakfast was excellent and consisted of fresh eggs, made to order, hand cut potatoes, sausage, my favorite plantains and Costa Rican typical rice and black beans, toast and pancakes for the kids and made fresh daily local juices and coffee. Another reason we chose this hotel was that the room had a small fridge so we could store groceries. A huge plus is that this was a dog friendly hotel! Here’s some things for travelers to consider and the primary reason for the hotel rating: When we arrived, it would have been nice to have the room cooled down before our arrival, but the AC worked great after it was cooled. All the guests rooms over look the very busy pool area and bar. So there is no quiet/privacy, from the guest balcony or pool area. The room was loud from the bar music and kids and could have used more storage. There are only a couple of rooms with a full view of the ocean, they are suites. The bar area is close to the beach and is very busy. The hotel could have done more bar/food business if they had kept relevant tv/music and more than one bar tender working. He was constantly placing food orders and having to run from the bar to the kitchen leaving the bar customers longing for another cool beverage.…
Without locks on the doors and having to rent a lock for the lock box, my wife was not comfortable with leaving anything in the room when we’d go to the beach. Luckily our room was next to the pool so we could watch the door fro half the pool. Otherwise the room was comfortable and clean. The restaurante had good service and good food. The only view of the beach is from the bar, kind of. The beach is incredibly spacious and especially beautiful for sunsets.
