This was my third time in Costa Rica and as a couple our second time. Hotel Villa Caletas is a very nice tucked away Boutique Hotel in the Rainforest. It is build in a Mountain, on different levels, which makes it so attractive, when you are looking for more privacy. It was one of our best experiences yet. The infinity pool, overlooking the trees with a view of the ocean is fantastic. Even when it rains, the serenity and Ambiente was feeling fantastic. We visited end of May, the rainy season starts in June, so yes we had some rain showers, expected in the Rainforest. At 6 in the morning on the balcony you are able to see the monkeys coming by, Tucans, Macaw Parots, all kind of different animals. Just the view from seeing the clouds moving up, the sunsets with a view over the ocean. At the end of their season, it was not overcrowded and the Service was still first class. That is what it was feeling to me. The cook is fantastic, and the arrangements on our plate was certainly for the eye. The only reason I don’t rate a full 5 stars, nobody is perfect and there is always room for improvement. Yes, here and there it could use some update, but as it is, definitely it has charm. The beach is not for swimming, the sea is to rough. But for sunbathing with a snack and drink, perfect and private. Thanks to the whole staff who made the experience unforgettable, I definitely want to come back.

I had stayed at Villa Caletas many years ago and had dreamed of returning. When I finally did return in May 2022, I am pleased to say it was every bit as beautiful, welcoming and peaceful as I remembered it to be. The staff is the best Costa Rica has, catering to every need with that very special graciousness of the Costa Rican people. The hotel itself is magnificent! Every Villa is unique and luxurious. Artwork everywhere! The restaurant food was delicious! The spa was amazing ~ how could you go wrong with a massage accompanied by gentle rain falling and tropical birds singing. The trip down to the beach was so much fun riding in the back of the truck. Even the gift shop had great and one-of-a-kind treasures. Thank you to everyone at Villa Caletas who helped make my stay a truly memorable journey! I would HIGHLY recommend a stay!!

Beautiful hotel. The views are breathtaking, you will not be able to stop staring. The people at the hotel are super nice. My favourite part was the free yoga classes on the weekend. Doing yoga with an great instructor, and the most beautiful view felt like a dream.

Once again Villa Caletas hosted another memorable wedding for our family. Our third child was married here and it is hard to believe that the staff could outdo the other two weddings but they exceeded. The manager Fredrick made sure that all our guest and our family felt welcomed and took care of every detail with grace and style. The food was outstanding, service second to none and the location is stunning. We did not have to worry about a thing as the wedding coordinator Mariana made sure that everything ran smoothly. When we saw the flowers, the set up the special lighting we where all moved to tears. At Villa Caletas you are treated not only like royalty but like family.

This was by far the worst hotel we stayed at during our two weeks in Costa Rica. The hotel grounds are nice. But the rooms are TERRIBLE. The linens and beds looked and felt like they were decades old, I felt gross sleeping in them. Hair in the sheets, holes in the comforter (if you can even call it that - it was basically a blanket you can buy off the street vendors in Mexico wrapped in a sheet that's yellowing because it's so old). The pillows were tiny and under-stuffed - felt like someone took most of the stuffing out of them. Unbelievable that they charge as much as they do and they can't update their beds. Bathroom was dirty, some surfaces had so many finger prints on them it was obvious they hadn't been wiped down in weeks, maybe months. REFER TO MY PICS. The only plus side was the pool. The private beach was also nice if you can stomach the ride down and then back up the super rocky hillside. Unfortunate that we spent our last nights here, I felt totally ripped off the moment I walked into this hotel room. Note to management: reduce your prices or invest a little of that money to give your guests a comfortable place to sleep. It's such an easy fix.

I wanted to make our anniversary special. We had been to Villa Caletas a few years back so I reserved the same suite with private pool, overlooking the coast and the forest. And, once again, our anniversary was made memorable by this wonderful hotel. The overall decor of Villa Caletas has a classical theme, very elegant. Our room, bright and spotless. The king bed was adorned with lovely towel swans and balloons; fresh fruit awaited us, and that pool, delicious! Dinner was superbly done and for dessert they treated us to a scrumptious chocolate cake with "feliz aniversario" written in chocolate! There was never a "no, we can't," or "no, we don't have that:" I love my breakfast coffee with a little decaf, non dairy milk, hot, in a big cup... Roy, our waiter during the two days we stayed, made it exactly right. One small detail: I ordered eggs benedict for breakfast and the sauce was tasteless, it lacked that lemony flavor of bearnaise. I am a birdwatcher and the next morning I took a walk around the hotel, saw toucanets, chestnut billed toucans, lots of hummingbirds, some parakeets, and two white-faced capuchin monkeys. I asked if we could see the Zephyr rooms and were given the tour by Henry, who patiently fielded all my questions. This is an even more elaborate part of the facilities, just lovely: each of the suites has antiques, art, murals, each is themed for a different part of the world, and one even has its own gym! Villa Caletas has a seaside bar and recreation area to which we were driven, through the loveliest forest (requires a 4x4 vehicle to go down to the beach). We sunbathed, as the beach is rocky, but we had the best guacamole and chips. I love dark beer, they had none, but the waiter found a bottle of a similar beer and offered it to me to taste! My husband lost his hat on the way back and the driver actually went back and searched for it, brought it back! José, at Reception, topped it all: by the pool in our suite there is a tall starfruit tree and it was laden with ripe fruit, but not reachable from the balcony. José asked Henry to pick some fruit for us to take home! Villa Caletas has redefined "attentive and kind service" for me, really! Thank you for making our 45th anniversary truly memorable!

This hotel and location are so wonderful. I have been here several times and it never disappoints. Even the drive up the hill is spectacular- the staff is on top of all of your needs, it is a lovely place to stay. There are many steps through out the facility - so keep that in mind if you have mobility problems. They do have a few rooms near the registration area with few steps, which is great. The view from our room was phenomenal. But I do have to say that my favorite part was waking up in the morning to sit on the patio, and having a mama anteater with a baby on her back taking a little walk right in front of me. I was elated!!! The food was great, I had fresh tuna that was outstanding. My friend had Lobster and Shrimp Risotto that was mind blowing. This place is wonderful - splurge and enjoy a beautiful suite in the sky above the beaches of Costa Rica.

Where do I even start? If you are thinking of booking this place for your trip, think no more and just do it. It was simply wonderful. It’s like escaping to paradise. We stayed in the honeymoon suite 16 and bought a honeymoon package. Absolutely worth it. We had our own private Infinity pool and jacuzzi on our patio with ocean view, walk in shower, soaker tub. It includes breakfast, couples massage, an excursion, daily cocktail, and a sunset private terrace dinner. Wow. (Please do your private sunset dinner early to avoid bugs 🤪). The bed was a little softer than we would’ve liked and you kind of roll to the middle but several other couples we met said their beds were firmer 🤷🏼‍♀️. We saw every type of wildlife from our private patio- toucans, macaws, iguanas, even a family of white face monkeys passing through our trees. You could just get lost hiking around the hotel grounds and seeing the view of the rainforest an ocean from every angle. The service was exceptional and I wish I remember everyone’s names. Shirley was our housekeeper and she did a great job. The concierge helped us with so many things, booking taxis, excursions, even getting some items delivered from the local pharmacy that we forgot to bring. The wait staff started greeting us by name. Jairo at the pool bar was always ready to bring us drinks directly to the infinity pool edge, and he even chopped a coconut out of a tree at the pool and put straws directly in for us to have a nice treat. The spa is popular and we met many people staying in Jack who just came to Villa Caletas for the day to use the amenities- everyone we met was wowed by how beautiful it is at Caletas. I will say to expect a lot of bugs, but it is Central America so I think that goes for anywhere. Also, there are a few areas where the greenery is kind of overgrowing and it would be nice if it were trimmed to see the views better but honestly there were so many scenic views it didn’t matter too much. This is the best and we will definitely be taking an anniversary trip there. Highly recommend the Isla Damas boat tour to see white face monkeys. It’s about an hour drive from the hotel but so worth it. They arranged transportation for us. The guide had been doing that for 20 years and had a wealth of knowledge about the area. He pointed out sloths, Jesus Christ lizards, iguanas, native flora, and some white faced monkeys even came on the boat to greet us. It was a highlight. Can’t say enough good things about this place. You won’t be disappointed.

We went to Costa Rica in February 2022 for a wedding. We stayed at Villa Caletas along with other family members. Personally, I had a villa with 2 beds and it had a little courtyard. It was nice. Other family members had villas with one bed and they had beautiful views with patios. The honeymoon suite was amazing. The wedding took place at Zephyr Palace, so we stayed there the night of the wedding. These individual rooms are suites all with different themes. This time I had an amazing view. And this section of the resort had a separate pool that had the best view. The restaurant served a nice breakfast. For dinner, make sure and make reservations. Depending on where your room is on the property, you might have quite a walk to the restaurant and pool. It was a workout. This resort is up the hill so to get a taxi into town takes 20 mins. The staff for the most part were friendly.

Hotel Villa Caletas was the perfect location for our daughter's destination wedding with its magnificent views of the Pacific ocean and lush tropical jungle filled with beautiful exotic birds and wildlife. This isolated mountain and seaside resort felt like a lost paradise. There is not enough adjectives to describe the breathtaking beauty that surrounds you. I would ignore any negative reviews and experience this captivating tropical resort first hand. Among the many amenities this beautiful hotel offers its guests is the services of expert wedding coordinators who have the knowledge and skill to help you plan the perfect destination wedding. Our wedding coordinator was Mariana and she was fantastic! She went above and beyond and gave 100% from start to finish. It truly was a storybook wedding and I have to give thanks to Mariana for working tirelessly with us for 2 years as we rode out the pandemic together; even when we wanted to give up she kept us going. Here are just a few photos from that magical weekend.
