The setting and commitment to environmental stewardship make this a great place for a few days' stay. Food is uniformly excellent, and pays homage to great "tico" ingredients. The trails through the forest are a great opportunity to view birds and wildlife, and staff are helpful and attentive.

A nice lodge in a lovely location. Best thing was the spring fed pool which was cool and refreshing with no chemicals in it. The guide on the bird tour and night walk was very good too, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I loved seeing the row of bats behind the bar, you can only tell they are real when they move...

I had been to Esquinas a handful of times birding and had always been pleased with the quality of birding there. This time I stayed at the lodge as part of a field birding trip I was leading a week ago. The birding is excellent, gardens are wonderful and the contact with nature is great! Do not expect luxury here,...

I came here as part of a small group tour at the back end of the rainy season 2016. It's a genuinely beautiful spot. The cabins are set out spaciously in amongst a beautifully planted and laid out grounds. A network of pathways connects the cabins to the pool and the main restaurant and communal area. The grounds are teaming...

Set in beautiful gardens - lovely place. Requires drive for several miles down unsurfaced road which was quite difficult in our under-powered "SUV". No choice of food (full board) so slightly hit and miss; some delicious, some just about ok. Nice breakfast. We had a package included two guided tours; one on foot was a bit of a waste of...

Pros: beautiful grounds, lots of wildlife (the night tour was great), quite nice food, attentive kitchen staff (they remembered what I was allergic to and consistently made me an alternative when I couldn't have the set meal), spring-fed pool Cons: dingy rooms (you'll need a book light if you want to read), can hear the people next door when they're...

Thanks for your friendly comment. We are working on the quality of our rooms, especially the lighting, but the dinginess is hard to avoid since , as an ecolodge, we purposely don't have glass windows and air-conditioning, and the humidity is omnipresent. Have a great 2017!

I stayed at Esquinas Rainforest Lodge over Christmas 2016 and enjoyed it. A lovely, peaceful and relaxing place within Piedras Blancas NP. Hiking in the NP is a must and well worth it. Food was excellent and rooms spacy and clean. Although everything was fine I have to say that, given the expensive price, something was missing. That little superb...

This eco hotel is in a wonderful location and is thoroughly recommended in spite of visiting during atrocious weather! The rooms are clean & comfortable with balconies to sit on & watch the hummingbirds and other varieties. Food was good & plentiful.

Thank you for your kind comments. We sincerely regret that you happened to be at Esquinas during the rainy weather connected with Hurricane Otto. We have never experienced so much rain in the month of November, but we are glad you enjoyed your stay nevertheless.

Esquinas Rainforest Lodge is surrounded by acres of beautiful forest teeming with a wide variety of wildlife. This area is a bird lover's paradise with lots and lots of different birds. The rooms are set apart from the reception area and you wind around beautiful gardens to get to your room. The rooms themselves are spacious although rustic. The rooms...
