we stayed for two nights at this lodge and loved it. Room was very comfortable and very clean ( apologies to the lodge I think my husband filled in a guest experience card and downrated the cleaning service - he confused the cleaners here with a previous hotel we stayed at which I complained to him about) - absolutely no complaints - they were great! Staff in the restaurant were great and continually helped us practice our spanish Food was good and drinks reasonably priced This is a beautiful spot and the wildlife in fantastic - thoroughly recommend,

I booked the 2 night package at Manatus. This was a solo trip. One of the things that appealed to me was that it was small and intimate - only 12 rooms. I did not want a place that catered to large busloads (or boat loads) of tourists. I actually ended up coming by plane from San Jose. The room was a good size. It was tastefully decorated and very neat and clean. The maid left cute "towel animals" on the bed. The rooms have air conditioning, which for some people is important The food was quite good. There was enough variety. The pool area was nice and had a great view. It was a great place to relax in the afternoon. The staff were helpful and friendly - Hazel, Jhon, Luis, David, Jason and others whose names I did not get. The hotel seemed to be well run. The included tours of the canals and the town were excellent and gave a good flavour of some of the wildlife and plants and natural beauty in the area. Luis, the guide seemed knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife and nature. All in all, I really enjoyed my time in Tortuguero and my stay at Manatus and highly recommend it for those wanting to visit Tortuguero.

Manatus has a fabulous location and it is well run. Whilst the room was a little old, particularly the bathroom area, the aircon was great to help us sleep well during our first few nights in CR. The guides were very knowledgable and the restaurant staff always friendly. The food was good rather than outstanding but overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

This was our first time in Tortuguero and I'm not sure we enjoyed it so much because of the location, the great weather, or probably because of the hotel we chose. We arranged transport from the SJO Hampton Inn and that was top notch. This, I'm sure, was a fluke, but we had the large bus and guide to ourselves. Jonathan was a pleasure to chat with along the way. We had not realized that we would get in some touring and explanation while on route to La Pavona. We had a nice breakfast stop, too. I wasn't a big fan of having to wait a bit at the restaurant at the dock, but that was totally understandable. It was the only time I was hot and uncomfortable; it was crowded there. Some friendly dogs made the time pass a little faster. The boat transfer to the hotel was great; Ricardo is a very good guide. The guide for the canal tours and sea turtle nesting was Luis, also very good. The hotel was, to me, a luxury experience. We generally stay at more rustic lodges. The staff made us feel pampered and I am so glad that we chose a small hotel for the area. There are only 12 units, arranged in three quads. The design makes one feel that each is totally separate. The rooms were large, well appointed, and very comfortable. The shower was wonderful (not always the case in CR). The food is very good, with the same menu presented at lunch and dinner. I considered the options pretty upscale. Bar drinks were also nice, most cost 7 USD. Service was excellent and we came to know all the staff by name, and vice versa. Then again, there were never more than two other couples there during the three nights we were there. I'm sure that's not always the case. I was delighted with the amount of wildlife on property. We were greeted by a baby howler monkey, practically at eye level, in front of our room when we arrived. That troop hung around (literally) the tree outside our window for a few days. When they left we had a porcupine. There's a great onsite "jungle" trail and we didn't walk for than a few yards before seeing poison dart frogs (blue jean) jumping around. Shout out to adorable Yucca, the tiny property dog. Overall, this was a great visit and I would happily return to Tortuguero just to stay at this hotel/

If your Costa Rican vacation includes a stop in Tortuguero, don't worry about where to stay. Book yourself one of the bungalows at the Manatus Hotel. You will be treated like royalty. Our package included all meals and the staff takes pride in getting to know you and your preferences. Our waiter Jhon and the bartender Lecson were wonderful people and bent over backwards to help make our stay memorable. The girls who cleaned our room made the cutest little animals out of the fresh towels. And if you stay here, you get both a mornings and an afternoon boat tour of the National Park with a qualified guide. Luis was one of the best we had on our entire Costa Rican vacation. Be sure to take the optional twilight tour and if you are there during turtle nesting season, you have to take the additional nesting tour. It was an extra $40 extra but to see a mama turtle laying her eggs in the sand and then covering them up was an experience I'll never forget. Can't say enough good things about the Manatus. Stay here and find out on your own why this is THE place to stay in Tortuguero.

We visited Manatus Hotel with my family including my parents and two children ages 9 & 12. The boutique resort is nested in the rainforest overlooking the river. My kids loved the outdoor pool after our morning adventures exploring the wildlife. We took a kayak tour with Louis and visited the Tortuguero National Park. Louis is a very knowledgeable naturalist as well as just a lovely person that my whole family enjoyed. We also enjoyed the daily boat excursions and each time we saw something new. Both incredible experiences with an abundance of wildlife sightings (baby sloth, macaws, monkeys, camen and more). In addition to the nature and amazing guide Louis, the Manatus Hotel staff make the experience unforgettable. Oh and the delicious food… from the daily fish, ceviche to the apple pie it was perfect for our whole family. This is a must visit when in Tortuguero; especially with kids.

We loved it here. It was especially hot and humid, so we were very grateful for the excellent air-conditioning! The rooms were good; large and well equipped (including a very good fridge). The bathrooms were very basic - but you're in the middle of the rainforest! Our porch faced the water, which was nice. The hotel is perfectly located, sandwiched between the water and the rainforest - lots of wildlife comes into the beautifully maintained grounds. We spent lots of time wandering freely around the grounds. We really enjoyed the boat trips: the guides were excellent, and being in small groups was great. We found the food to be excellent; we stayed two nights but could happily have eaten off the menu for longer as there was lots to choose from. One of the best things about Manatus is the staff, who were incredibly friendly and helpful - it is such a welcoming place. They worked hard, but always had time to show us the wildlife in the grounds. One word of warning: the mozzies are vicious at night! Take some repellent and trousers/long sleeved clothes for the restaurant, but don't expect it to completely solve the problem!

The hotel can only handle 24 guests. Most come for two nights. The daily (twice a day) trips on the boat to the park are awesome and the guides are very knowledgeable. We also made a trip to the nearby town which is set up for the tourist trade. A real higher end experience. Very friendly and helpful staff!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. We got picked up at our hotel in San Jose by 5heir own shuttle service at 6:30 in the morning. Around 8:30 we stopped for a traditional breakfast, and continued to a boat transfer location. The last 30 kilometers was per boat to reach Tortuguero. The hotel is about 10 minutes by boat on another land then the town, so you are sort of stuck there unless you leave on the town tour or any other tours. Fortunately all maels are included, as are coffee and tea. The water is fresh and you can drink from the tap. There are 12 bungalows which are spacious withe 2 queen beds, a bathroom, shower, and a little enclosed patio with an outdoor shower. Wifi was stable and TV had lots of channels. Minibar was 2 dollar for a coke, 1 dollar for a chocolate bar. Of course we came for the national park and it did not disappoint. With an open boat we saw a lot of wildlife and nature in the morning and afternoon tours which were included. Additional tours can be booked. As it is a rainforest the air is moist, and we had some short heavy rain during one tour. The captain handed out ponchos, but of course, the bench we sat on got wet and so much rain, so still wet underpants. It was waiting for sun to dry, so wear clothes that dry easily. Staff and guides did their best for all guests, never pushing an upsell for anything. If we are back in the neighborhood we would stay here again.

You really need to understand expectations, if you view the Manatus as a base for tours into the national park then it is outstanding , if your expectations are for a hotel stay you may be disappointed and this would be a unfair reflection on what the Manatus does offer. Firstly the knowledge of the guides is exceptional, I am not going to list everything we saw (see other reviews) but thank you so much to Ricardo and the Captain you made it unforgettable. The hospitality of all the staff was great but a big shout out to Enrico, constantly smiling, joking, singing and I even got a impromptu napkin folding lesson from Enrico. The grounds and gardens were immaculate and thank you to these staff who can sometimes go unnoticed. The room was really comfortable with great beds, the bathrooms definitely needs a upgrade. The food was only ok. We loved the Manatus and if I was ever back in Tortuguero it would be the Manatus for us.
