#5 of 43 Specialty lodging in Tortuguero
Travelers' Choice
The area of Tortuguero is rightfully called The Amazon of Costa Rica because access is only by boat on Jungle Rivers. Turtle Beach Lodge, 5 miles north of the town of Tortuguero, is a secluded resort spanning 175 acres with miles of jungle trails, a meandering private canal, and a half mile of beach adjoining still more isolated beaches. The lodge accommodates approximately 80 guests; assisted by a well trained staff and guides who ease you into an exciting jungle experience. Stay in the beautifully landscaped cabinas, swim in our turtle shaped pool, relax in the adjacent shady hammock hut with food and drink from the restaurant and bar.

I booked Turtle beach but had to cancel. I was told I would get 100% refund and then nothing. I understand the country was closed, but no communication about what going on? Its a little frustrating as I was hoping to go back next year after covid.

Stayed for 2 nights during our Grand Tour. The boat ride to reach the resort was fantastic, also the lunch on arrival. The bar area was lovely, the bar staff were good too, in particular one boy was great, I think it was Frankie. The Long Island iced tea was amazing. Now for the negatives. My lodge was the most basic of all accomodation on our tour. There were big gaps under the door and I had to spray a towel with DEET to try to prevent unexpected visitors. There were small cobwebs and the room was not clean, see attached photo. The beach was unimpressive with lots of litter - we did a, clean up for an hour. Apparently most of the rubbish is washed up from Honduras. The restaurant management were very petty and would not allow our group of 9 to push 2 tables together. This was ridiculous. After such a lovely boat ride and first impressions of the resort we were disappointed with our stay.

This lodge is nestled in the tropical jungle in Torugurero National Park. The only way to get there is by boat and is about a 2.5+ journey into the jungle. The lodge is surrounded on one side by the jungle and on the other by the Carribean Ocean. The accomodations are simple and clean and serve as the perfect place to land after long days of exploring the abounding nature. The guides and boat captians are fabulous and share all that they know about what we were seeing. 3 meals a day are served in an open air dining area and the food is good and there is indeed plenty of it. This is the perfect place to get away from the chaos of the world and to relax into the arms of Mother Nature.

Amazing remote location on a rustic Caribbean beach: friendly staff with a nice pool and a great place to go out on boat tours and guided walks from. Room was basic but adequate with a ceiling fan. Only down side we felt was the bland food and very little contrast from day today with it. Always served at the same times if you missed that hour slot you would probably miss your meal. The night boat trip I didn’t feel was as good as the early morning one, a lot more to see at Dawn on the wildlife front.

Great stay reached by river . So every time you go out it’s like being on a wildlife safari . Located between beach and jungle . Rooms a little rustic but modern bathrooms. Food nice enough and plentiful. Bar reasonable and small pool . The beauty of this place is the nature and wildlife all around it . Fantastic place to stay with helpful staff
