Stayed here for two nights and the location is excellent. Arrival by boat makes for an exciting visit , though of course you soon realise you can only arrive by boat. The rooms are basic and the lighting in them dingy, and there are no mod cons - no phone, fridge tv etc - but you are in a rainforest...

We stayed at Mawamba Lodge for three nights at the start of our 2 week holiday to Costa Rica, and it was the highlight of our trip. The journey to the Lodge was very interesting with a 1h 15m trip by boat along the river and canal. The Lodge was exceptional with very clean rooms with a cooling fan, balcony...

Wonderful lodge style bungalows complete with hammocks on the front verandah. Trips by boat to seek out wild life. A very different approach and very eco friendly. It is possible to fly in, but almost everyone has to enter by boat on very interesting waterways. It has a nice swimming pool, shop, restaurant and cafe. Within the grounds is a...

Spent 2 nights here as a base for seeing wildlife in the surrounding area. The cabins are basic but reasonably spacious. Great location between the canals and the beach and about 20 minutes walk from Tortuguero village which is OK for a quick beer or look around. Staff were generally very friendly, attentive and helpful, the food is simple but...

Lovely pool and nice sitting area with Bar surrounding it. Iguanas stroll the premises. Saw macaws fly over every day. Raccoon and armadillo walking through grounds. Knowing how remote this small self contained resort was , we were a little nervous of what to expect. But it has become one of our most enjoyable and comfortable experiences in similar venues. The whole campus is tastefully designed within a lovely garden landscape, to remind of you of your exotic surroundings, but is not in any way "touristy"...

Away from it all with no cars, only boats (engines can be heard but it does not detract) and the sounds of nature. Lovely food, friendly people and comfortable rooms.
