Staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were clean and well set up. The food was plentiful and varied and of a decent standard. The trips provided by the lodge were great and we saw a lot of wildlife, although the Green Turtle night trip was a bit severe we did see two turtles and a great deal of... More

Dear philip t, I am very glad to hear that you had a very nice time while visiting Mawamba Lodge and experiencing the natural beauty of Tortuguero National park. Green Sea Turtle is a wonderful experience, but is regulated by the National Park to make sure that our human presence impacts the least on the natural process of turtle nesting.... More

If you want to experience the splendor of the rain forest this is your place. Definitely not a hotel - it is a lodge. No air conditioning. Rustic rooms. Bugs and lizards. But comfortable and enjoyable. Our guide, Anna Marie, was wonderful. Lots of great information on the flora and fauna. Took us on a hike to the village and... More

Mawamba Lodge is definitely a place you must experience while visiting Costa Rica. Please remember this is a lodge and not a Ritz Carlton. There are no air conditioners, so plan accordingly with the weather. We had the ceiling fan on and opened all the windows to let air circulate. Meals are served at specific times each day. I highly... More

We flew into Tortuguero in a Nature Air 16 seater plane which was exciting itself, then into a boat along the canal to Mwamba Lodge. A beeeeeeaaaautiful place! Lots of wooden lodges around the grounds and the wildlife is abundant. We saw so much wildlife it's impossible to remember it all. Definitely do the garden tour, I thought it was... More

Our first stop on a trip to Costa Rica with our 3 teenage kids. Nice boat trip to get there and the welcome drunk is a nice touch. Attractive setting between the Caribbean Sea and the river. Beautiful grounds to wander around in. The rooms were comfortable and we really enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks on the verandah outside the... More

We stayed at Mawamba Lodge for 2 nights and had a really great stay. The location is so great. So close to the sea and the canals and just a short walk to Tortuguero. We loved falling asleep listening to the sounds of the Caribbean sea. Our tour guide, Laura, was great, and everything was very well-organised and with very... More

We stayed here for 2 nights after staying in San Jose on our arrival in Costa Rica. The journey to get to Mawamba is a combination of bus and boat and took over 3 hours.Unfortunately when we arrived at the pier for the boat the heavens opened and this made it a bit of an uncomfortable start to the boat journey... We had a good time at this lodge. The facilities on site are fine and the food was great. The local tours you can do were very interesting too. We had a fantastic guide called Laura, there was nothing she didn't know and she was very personable. If you get chance, go on the night trip to watch the turtles... More

Stayed at mawamba lodge as part of a prearranged tour for 2 nights and 3 days. Lunch at the Rio Dante stop and then transfer by boat to the lodge itself near Tortuguera village. The guide assigned to us spoke English but was more inclusive when speaking to the predominantly Spanish first language guests in our group. Poor weather cancelled... More
