What a wonderful way to begin our dream vacation to Costa Rica. I think I will always remember waking up in our open-air room to the sound of howler monkeys and then watching the sun come up looking at a fast flowing river, beautiful lush greenery and then the sound of the Caribbean in the distance. Iguanas by the pool,...

Impeccable service at every step. Perfect, clear guest communications. We found the food to be of very good quality. Room was lovely and we enormously appreciated the screens instead of windows to feel 'part of the jungle' (minus the bugs). In fact, we opened our curtains at lights out so we could wake to the sunrise. Mentioning bugs - I...

Dear JYNZ, Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences while at Tortuga Lodge. I'm glad to hear that you found the food to be of very good quality, the time that our Executive Chef, Federico Barrantes, has spent at the lodge is beginning to show results. This is a wonderful lodge, owned by a company called Costa Rica Expeditions, who planned our entire trip. Like everything else about CRE, this lodge was first class. Gourmet food, big comfortable room, friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had many unique experiences here: kayaking for the first time, in a river through the national park filled with animals and birds....

Dear letson 703, WOW, it sounds like you were a perfect fit for Tortuga Lodge. For people reading this and considering a stay with us, I'd like to expand a little on letson 703's closing sentence: " Think up-close interaction with nature combined with luxurious accommodations." For guests that are interested in immersion in the rain forst, sightings of Costa...

This was our third stop on a Costa Rica tour. It's a fly-in, fly-out remote tropical lodge with open air restaurant and bar, large airy rooms with river views, wide verandas with hammocks, a riverside pool and regular boat excursions into the Tortuguerro Reserve to view wildlife - howler and capuchin monkeys, iguanas, herons, egrets, anhingas, parrots, toucans, alligators, etc....

Dear Elizabeth S, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Tortuga Lodge with others that are considering us for a stay. You mentioned the conditions for photography and I thought it would be appropriate to include the information that we routinely send our guests when they ask. Should I bring my big, very expensive camera? •...

Every hotel has something good, something bad and sometimes something ugly. Same here. The good: The resort is great. Remote. Has a luxurious feel to it. Windows with only screening (yes, finding privacy is not always easy in the downstairs rooms), but you will enjoy all the sounds of nature. Very friendly staff. A great place to unwind. The bad:...

I am leaning towards a 3.5 rating here. The hotel is in a wonderful location, right by the river, across from the air strip (two flights a day, you never hear the planes) and a quick and nice boat ride to the park. The hotel's grounds are really nice but that is to be expected in costa rica where just...
