Certificate of Excellence
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of 22 beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans (some with A/C), and free WiFi. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Caribe Fun Tours is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions.

The photos of this place do not do it justice. The grounds are so beautiful!

Every staff member was extremely kind and helpful.

The beach was fine (nothing compared to nearby Punta Uva etc), but my husband and I really enjoyed lounging at the beach club. I even got a massage o

I am wondering if the beachfront apartment gets really hot. How is the ventilation in it? Are there screens up high to let air flow through? I can't find enough good pictures of it. Are the cabinas above it more ventilated? I am just wondering if other rooms are cooler or not, as far as breeze coming in.
Hola! The Beach Front Apartment has AC in the rooms. The leaving room and kitchen has big windows that can be opened (mosquito nets included) or perfect closed to use the air from the rooms. We hope to meet you soon! Pura vida

I don’t have a question but a suggestion. When I went to do the check out, I had a charge of just 2.30 for a mocha that I never had. I was there with my friend and we used his room to charge all the time. The lady at reception was very nice and she cancelled the charge. My suggestion is that guests should carry their key all the time and they should be asked when signing the bill to show the key. I’m glad the charge was only that but what if someone, wether it was by accident or on purpose, made a charge for a full meal or a bigger charge. It’s nice that guest are trusted but better to be safe than sorry. I loved your place 100%.
It’s AWESOME that you have this policy and you trust! It’s hard to find that but sometimes people takes advantage! Thanks for having such a great place and I did give you guys a great review! Pura Vida!

Hi Rodger, my question is are you close to festival?
Sorry Sybil but I’m not sure which festival are you referring. In October there is the Carnival in Limon (50kms) from Puerto Viejo and the Hotel. Also Puerto Viejo celebretes it and as I said we are located 1.5kms from Downtown.

Hello we are looking to travel for the first time to Costa Rica and have seen your hotel reviews. We are planning to travel in 2019 (celebrating big birthdays) and will be bringing my 16 yr old daughter. We are thinking of travelling end July or August time so I was wondering if you could advise me what the weather is generally like at this time and is your hotel close for sightseeing trips? Thank you in advance Nicki
Hello Nicki! Thanks for thinking on us for your Caribbean vacation next year. The weather in the tropical areas is quite hard to predict. Anyway we usually have rains at evenings and nights and during the day is sunny or partialy cloudy. The Hotel is at 10min from Puerto Viejo. The Cahuita National Park is at 25kms and at the area you can do snorkeling, surf, kayak, canopying, hiking and lots of other nice tours. You can check with our tour operator Caribe Fun Tours for more and detailed information. Hope to see you soon! Pura vida
