The drive between SJO and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is 4hrs-6hrs. It is very much worth noting that there are flights from SJO-LIO (Limon is a town about one hour north of the hotel). The property itself is gorgeous; very luscious and green with lots of interesting plant and wildlife. The beach itself is stunning and often empty. Being adults only is a major plus as well! There are several different rooms types available, and each of the descriptions very clearly say whether or not the room has air con. I personally wouldn't have been able to have a room without air con. I stayed in two room types, the first was KINKAJU CABINA which really exceeded expectations. I could hear the ocean from my hammock and the air conditioning worked brilliantly. It is a little further from the restaurant and pool, and was therefore a much quieter room. The second room I stayed in was the TROPICAL BATH STANDARD. It is ground floor and next to reception, so it can be a little noisy during daylight hours. The room itself is stunning, and would be perfect for any romantic getaway. The showerhead of my room (Tropical 9) could do with a clean as the water jets out in all sorts of directions, and the shower temperature is either cold or scalding. But having an outdoor bath and cold air from the air conditioning was wonderful. The breakfast was always outstanding, and the staff were all SO lovely. The excursions offered at the hotel were all quality, and good fun. I had one of the best massages; right on the beach listening to the waves. I absolutely loved this place and cannot wait to go back.…
Beautiful serene environment lush well maintained garden and overall facility. Very dedicated staff always eager to please and make you feel truly at home. In particular Jazmin, Andres & Mayhla. Truly exceptional service from all three of them. Their dedication to customer services made our stay so much more enjoyable! Being an animal lover having Brownie( doggie) and Domino(kitty) rosming the property and greeting us at breakfast or on the beach added to the warmth abd inviting atmosphere. Fantastic cocktails and fruit juices! Ceviche is one of the best Ive had! The only hiccup was that our room did not have air conditioning( clearly stated during booking i just didnt catch it) though it did have 2 large fans. Also because of open rooms very prone to mosquitos/bugs. So bring your bug spray! I also have to mention Selva from Caribbean Fun tours who was super helpful arranging our massages, excursions and covid testing! JUST BOOK THIS PLACE! YOU WONT REGRET IT.…
Great place! Great people, the staff goes above and beyond to help!!Close enough to town to get there easily but far enough away to be quiet. Definitely a perfect place for a family reunion. 50 yards to a quiet beach. Beach bar. Great grounds.
The staff and owners at Banana Azul are professional and friendly and pay attention to so many details. I was a solo traveler on my most recent trip and each day I looked forward to my return to my beautiful comfortable room and to the smiles and friendliness of the staff. I rented a car for a few days and I thought it was worth it to be able to independently explore from Cahuita to Manzanilla. So many wonderful places to see and things to do. I went during rainy season, which was perfect for me. I loved listening to the sounds of the rainforest in the rain, and the overcast beach was perfect for me. My one piece of advice for another traveller is don't neglect to use the bug spray when you sit down at the beach. I did, and I've got lots of little sand flea bites to show for it.…
From the beginning to the end, this hotel has been a fantastic place to stay. Very hospitable staff en the hotel itself is beautifully designed. Many breakfast options including an everyday (fresh prepared) changing menu. This hotel is definitely a must go in this region.
Everything about our stay at hotel Banana Azul was fantastic. We connected with many of the excellent staff members including Zindi, Donald, and Jasmine, who made our stay so enjoyable. It was incredible to have the pristine beach right in our backyard, along with an endless supply of excellent food and drinks. A special shout-out to our favorite bartender Donald!! Also, the massages by Michelle are most excellent and I highly recommend everyone who comes here to stay books one. You are placed in a small hut by the beach and can hear the relaxing ocean waves while you get messaged. So lovely. Thank you hotel Banana Azul for an excellent stay in Puerto Viejo!
I stayed a week by myself. I can't say enough nice things about this hotel and staff. I was able to work while sitting in the bar area with an ocean view; ocean chairs, lounge chairs, and umbrellas facing the sea for guests, lovely pool grounds, restaurant has a little manmade stream running through it that is alive with huge tutles and fish, I saw sloths on the hotel grounds, and there is an incredible, friendly staff! I will come again!
Easy check-in. Friendly staff. Beautiful grounds with many animals that are easy to spot. My room was spacious & clean. Spectacular sunrises with coffee waiting for us each morning. Totally peaceful with swimmable surf and plenty of lounge chairs for all. This was my second time staying, and I’ll be back again.
We stayed in May 2022 and had a wonderful time! The staff was friendly, professional and really welcoming. The hotel was clean and parking lot for our car was safe. The AC was cold and much needed after a hot caribbean day. They can help with booking tours and great dinner recommendations at the concierge desk, as well as massages by the beach or in-room at your balcony. Would love to come back if we're so lucky. Pura vida~
From check in to check out our stay at Banana Azul was perfect. We totally enjoyed the Kinkaju cabin. It was cozy and complete. Listening to the waves all night was amazing. The staff was like family with us, So professional and honest! My wife accidentally left her purse at our breakfast table and one of the waitresses found us on the beach and returned it to us! We were so grateful to her. Banana Azul will be our first choice when we return to Puerto Viejo. Mark and Jesse
