The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of 23 beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans (some with A/C), and free WiFi. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Caribe Fun Tours is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions.

Overall it was a very nice getaway for us; which you were more closer to town but overall I cant complaint. Staff were friendly and made us feel welcoming, rooms were clean. I do recommend it if you are willing to walk a couple of kms to town or get a scooter/ bicycle.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed at Hotel Banana Azul for three nights in Costa Rica. We had already been in the country for a week at this point and were a bit tired from our travels. Hotel Banana Azul gave us the perfect combination of relaxation, personalization, and new energy that we needed. The drinks were amazing and they had specials daily. The morning breakfast was delightful. Instead of doing the same buffet every day, they offer three of the same meals and then one specialized meal. I had banana pancakes that knocked my socks off one day. The food was some of the best we had in the country. It was a delicious pairing of traditional Costa Rican food with some Caribbean flavor profiles like pineapple shrimp. The hotel sits on Playa Negra - far enough away from the hubbub of the city to feel intimate and yet close enough for a twenty minute walk down the beach. We stayed in the Red Frog Suite. By the end of our trip, everyone knew us and could identify our room even though we are not extremely outgoing. I highly recommend staying there and experiencing the good energy of the people.

We absolutely LOVED this place! We had a whole two week itinerary planned for our honeymoon, so we were dotting all around Costa Rica - but Hotel Banana Azul will always be remembered as the friendliest, the most beautiful, relaxed and comfortable place we stayed at. It's small enough to not feel like they are oversubscribing to too many guests, so it has a more boutique vibe which we loved. We felt we got to know the staff well enough to have a nice chat and a laugh - a couple even hugged us when we left as they felt like great friends by the end of our trip! Super friendly and accommodating staff overall. The food was outstanding - the best breakfast of the whole trip by far - and when we ventured out into town for lunch/dinner - often we had wished we had stayed at Hotel Banana instead!... And I haven't even mentioned the drinks - oh my, the best pina coladas - so delish! Our room was absolutely wonderful - a private oasis, red frog suite, with our own plunge pool. The decor was trendy and on point. The hotel is situated on the beautiful black sandy beach - so room to beach in approximately 30 seconds! As we were staying for our honeymoon, we were also given a little surprise by the staff when we arrived which made it a beautiful welcome. It's those extras which add to the whole experience, and shows they care. All the staff would ask "hey how is your honeymoon going?"- Those little things just feel so considerate and we were so grateful and felt spoiled. Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting a little romantic getaway. Thank you Hotel Banana Azul - from Eric and Dani!

We were on a trip all around Costa Rica, when we got to Puerto Veijo our accommodations were not what we were excepting. we chose to leave and we found Banana Azul. Things instantly got better. From the check in to the tour of the property to the peacefulness of the property. The food the drinks the rooms all were just right . We were there in the midst of the corona virus out break, we were supposed to continue on to Panama but the boarder was closed. The hotel extended our room for another night so we could figure out a plan. Again the whole time being extremely polite and professional. I have been in the hospitality industry in Las Vegas for over 30 years and worked in Forbes rated 5 star properties. With that said the staff at Banana Azul was some of the best I have had the pleasure to have had been on the receiving end of their service. Collin and Roger should be very proud. Please tell all the staff the guys from Vegas said hello, Jose at the desk, Claudia the best service with a smile in the restaurant, sorry I didn't get more of their names. This is a great place to stay don't think twice about it Jeff

So happy we decided to stay here. We were able to see the ocean from our room balcony and hotel also acts similar to a beach club. Hotel guests are able to head to the beach, lounge in the beach chairs and order drinks or food. Great location- was close enough to everything in the area but not right in the middle of it. The hotel provided bikes which you could rent out. We biked everywhere which I think was the better option- you could go basically anywhere in the area with a 30-40 minute bike ride and you're able to appreciate the setting. Staff was very helpful and recommended great things to do in the area
