I stayed at the hotel on Jan 22 - 25 2021 for my birthday. The hotel was very nice, employees are extremely nice, and pleasant. However, I experienced a very scary situation around 1am someone tried to open my room door. I hurried open to hold the door closed and looked outside and it was an employee that works there that sleeps there during the week. I called the security guards to report the incident and was not very happy how the situation was taken care off. None called to check on it and it seemed that this had happened over. VERY DISAPIONTING
We stayed for 2 weeks. Very peaceful. surrounded by nature, we saw. sloths, iguanas, small tucans, frogs, etc. Clean confortable big rooms. Staff was very helpful, specially Sergio and Jr. They went the extra mile to make sure we felt welcomed. Puerto Viejo is a 10 min bike ride or 5 min taxi. 5 min walking to Cocles. Best way to start 2021.
We as local people we deserve the same service as international tourist even knowing the situation around covid... The front desk service was horrible and the breakfast was like cat food... You guys can do better than this...
We spent 5 nights here. We initially had a problem with our rooms but this was sorted out with the help of our local agent and the manager and we were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was very nice. The rooms are very clean and the housekeeping staff are excellent. Unfortunately this cannot be said for all the staff and training is desperately needed. A lot of the staff give the impression of not being bothered and most don’t smile! We do have to say a big thank you to Mirsa (I hope I have got your name right) on reception, as she sorted several problems out for us and did it with a smile. In general the hotel is tired and would benefit from an update, which is a shame as it’s in a beautiful setting.
The setting is just amazing. Our bungalow was at the end of the garden, adjacent to the forest and our early mornings were the best; we saw a paca, hummingbirds, colourful frogs, heard plenty of howler monkeys. Every thing was clean - our bungalow was spotless and so were the restaurant and reception. But, there is not much ambiance. The restaurant is good but too pricy (over $35 US for dinner buffet). During Happy hour we were looking for the barman at the pool. Maybe it was low season? The grounds and common area have a lot of potential but something is lacking. I hope that it will be better managed soon before it becomes too run down. Some work was going on and they just renewed their mattresses so it may be on the way to becoming a gem.
