The samasti hotel is beautiful resort tucked back inside the rainforest surrounded by all the flowers and plants and trees. You don’t have to wander far to see the howler monkeys, frogs, toucans, butterflies, and so many more beautiful creatures. I was there for a scheduled retreat with Dacred Wisdom School and the staff was so attentive and kind. The food was clean, delicious and plentiful. The room I stayed in was in the Monkey House and it had 2 twin beds, an armoire, 2 side tables, and a fan. The room had plenty of space for me and would have easily held another person too. The deck of the house has 2 hammocks and a table and chair set. The 5 or so rooms shared 2 bathrooms with 4 shower stalls equipped with hot water. They changed the sheets and restocked towels with the frequency requested.

I also want to note Ursula who makes the jewelry in the cases. She conducts a mala making workshop that was a really wonderful experience and a much more meaningful souvenir than something from the airport. I would recommend doing one.

All in all, I would recommend this resort for a quiet getaway to rejuvenate yourself before going back to your real life.

We’ve travelled all over Costa Rica but had never explored the Caribbean side. On short notice we found Samasati online and called to make a reservation. We had a private cabina with a patio and hammocks overlooking the treetops and view of the ocean. Everything was amazing at a Samasati. The staff were extraordinary so helpful and kind. You can park your car at the bottom of the hill if you don’t have 4 wheel drive (behind a gate) and they take you up and down the hill in an SUV. Food was wonderful, vegetarian and very fresh. But you also have the option to request fish or chicken ahead of time for dinner. The walking/hiking trails are lovely. We found a waterfall. You can book massages on site. We really enjoyed our long days reading our books in hammocks or by the pool. Puerto Viejo is about a 10-15!minute drive away which we did for some lunches and dinners and to explore the surrounding beaches. We loved the food and the culture on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica.

Bliss!!! What a lovely place hidden deeply in the pleasantly noisy rain forest ! My casita was clean and comfortable and set just far enough away that I felt alone and that was just what I wanted. The vegetarian food was buffet style and delicious… fresh fruit with each meal , numerous choices and nicely presented. The staff friendly and helpful and responsive to our wishes and needs. Our circular yoga room was perfect… placed by itself with screens all around so we could hear the calming sounds of the rain forest. I had an Ayurvedic massage that left me melted! Scott, the manager, was helpful, setting up transportation and activities as we wished. Samastati is a hidden gem! I can’t wait to go back!

The dealings with this centre were very complicated and convoluted and many mistakes were made that coloured our stay in a negative light. They made some effort to compensate the parties affected but it required a tremendous amount of stress and effort.
The rooms: The newer casitas are simple, large, clean and mostly as pictured. The older casitas need some tlc: a new coat of paint, holes in the window netting, and a serious update. The rooms in the guesthouse are small but fine. In all rooms it feels like a step up from camping in the jungle.
The best part was the staff. They were very sweet, helpful, attentive.. I could go on, they were really wonderful.
The food was also really well done. Fresh and abundant, some regular staples but also enough variety to make meals interesting.
Wifi is terrible which could be a blessing in disguise unless you do have to do some work during your holiday.
All in all this centre is priced too high for what you get including massage and laundry services. after staying in several different places during our visit to this area we found Samasati to be overpriced for what is offered.

The location of Samasati is tucked away in the rainforest where you are close to a town (if you wish to leave- I didn't), but also far enough away where you can immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of nature. The food was fresh, healthy and presented beautifully. I made a Mala with Ursula that is truly my own, and will treasure the experience and guidance she gave me. The local flora and fauna was more than enough entertainment for a week and when the rains came, I could lay in my hammock and read a book or just look out and enjoy the serenity of the rain coming down in the jungle around me. Everyone that works there is kind, and immediately receptive; just a beautiful group of people all together. It was the most amazing experience.

My mom and I took a yoga trip to Costa Rica in February and stayed at Samasati. We had such a great experience! It is quiet with a great view, great food, and great service. Everyone was so nice and helpful and very accommodating with getting us to and from various locations in the area. There is a very long gravel path that leads you to the top where the actual retreat center is so be prepared for that, but otherwise it was such a beautiful getaway. You are quite literally tucked away in the jungle of Costa Rica! One of a kind experience!

I just stayed at samasati for a week and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Everyday I woke up to the sound of the jungle in my private screen bungalow and fresh Costa Rican coffee. The staff was so warm and welcoming making sure my stay was as comfortable as possible. I enjoyed the open air styled experience with the freshest, most delicious food I’ve ever eaten. I would recommend this stay for anyone looking to experience Costa Rica at its best. Just be prepared to be immersed in the jungle and observe the coolest wildlife around.

I highly recommend that you do not book this .
in September I booked the Ayurvedic and Yoga Retreat with Stephanie McKenzie 12th Nov - 17th Nov
I booked a return flight from London , I night stay in San Jose and transport from San Jose to Samasti. The entire trip was expensive
12 days before the retreat I got an e mail form Stephanie McKenzie saying the retreat had been cancelled.
Right from the start of this booking , the communication has been non existent .
The phone numbers that were given are not answered and all the e mails are not replied to .
When the balance of my payment was taken from my account just 2 days before cancelling , I thought I had been scammed as nobody responded to Whats App ,any of the emails or the various phone numbers.
my bank looked into it and agreed that it looked suspicious and cancelled my debit card.
Yesterday I received a full refund thank goodness , however
this has been a very stressful experience and has
put me off Costa Rica all together.

Hello Lou - Yes, this can be very stressful when you have no idea what is happening with your funds. There was a mix up with your bank. And we managed to sort it out for you. We are glad you got the funds back eventually. We look forward to welcoming you to the retreat to show you how you can benefit. Best Regards.

As organizers of a plant medicine retreat, we are very happy and satisfied with the collaboration with Samasati Resort.

We just finished hosting the second edition of our Inner Flight Retreat in Samasati resort. In this one-week retreat program, we offer Ayahuasca ceremonies (with Shipibo Conibo Peruvian Maestros), Kambo, Temazcal, and Cacao Ceremonies.

We had the best support in all our activities (before and during the retreat) from the Samasati team. They satisfied all our requests very promptly and with joy. All the services they provide are top quality, the personnel has very good energy and are eager to help at any moment. The accommodation is beautiful, the room cleaning service is excellent and the food-rich.

We recommend Samasati resort from our heart!

My husband and I were on a fabulous Yoga retreat for 9 days with "Grace in Nature" Yoga Retreats. Samasati was our home base and it made me want to move down and live right on the property. The beauty of the flowers, vistas, jungle and all the wild life with their vivacious sounds filled my soul. It was a perfect place for a yoga retreat. We did many excursions that were so much fun, but there were days we chose to stay onsite just to relax in the hot tub or swim in the pool. We loved our massages and the PEOPLE.... THE PEOPLE who ran the place were amazing. Kind, friendly, beautiful people. Loved Scott!!! The night hike in the jungle with him was a highlight. Thank you so much Samasati. We will be back next year for sure!

Dear Kajal V, We are located on the south Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and therefore enjoy a very different climate compared to the rest of the country. As a matter of fact, Samasati, which sits on a mountain perch overlooking the sea, has it's own microclimate. Year round we get rain showers overnight, early morning or late afternoon. These showers do not last long and on the mountain we enjoy slightly cooler temperatures than directly on the beach. Nonetheless, we do get slightly more rain in July and December. The second week of June should be excellent with warm water in the Caribbean as well. We recommend a stay at the new luxury villas at Banana Azul as the perfect compliment to our rainforest sanctuary experience. They are directly on the water and a little closer to the town of Puerto Viejo. Thanks!

Dear Sandra R, At this very moment the gift shop is out of sunblock, however, sunblock is available for purchase at the grocery stores and markets in town near the beach. Our gift shop does carry other lotions, oils, scrubs, etc that are locally made and organic. Thanks

Hello sabrinagatliff, To fly into Costa Rica you'll fly into SJO airport (Juan Santamaria Airport) which is located in San Jose. From there it is a 4hour drive to Samasati (options include public shuttle bus or private car). Additionally, flights are available to reach the Caribbean coast in just 30 minutes. We recommend a domestic flight on Sansa airlines which take you to Limon airport, a short 30 - 40 minute drive from Samasati. We hope that info helps! If you book at stay at Samasati our reservations department can assist you with booking airport transfers. Thanks

Hello Sandra R, The rooms do not have alarm clocks or hair dryers, you would have to bring your own, no power plug adapter needed. You're welcome to use a cell phone alarm or listen for the morning howler monkey call ;)
Answer from Samasati Y

Hello Sandra R, Thank you for reaching out with your important question. We draw water from natural sources and rain catchment on the mountain and then filter it through a state of the art multi step filtration system. This water is then provided at water stations for guests. You can fill up your reusable container as much as you'd like. However, if there is not enough rainwater to filter, we use purchased water to fill our water stations. Water stations are open round the clock in the restaurant and in yoga studios. We hope that answers your question and feel free to reach out if you need more assistance! thank you
