Once they realized we were not high rollers, they avoided us and the service went downhill. We were ignored basically when our order was small. What they didn't know was we are big tippers, of which they got very little. Bland food. No salads with meal or bread, just a salad bar for an entree price.

This is a good place to stay for a week. There is a simple kitchen which is nice to use. The rooms are simple with fans and they have little porches with a hammock which I really liked. The garden and all the plants are really nice. The walls are a bit thin and the neighbor roosters and dogs are... More

As a couple this was the ideal place to stay, such value for money! We planned to stay a week but stayed 3 in the end! Wonderful and out of the hustle and bustle of the main strip of Puerto Viejo...but close enough to enjoy within minutes. Awesome commercial kitchen, hot water showers, working wifi and a ping pong table...all... More

This hotel definately has its pros and cons. Pros: They allowed us a late check in, it was very relaxed allowing us to pay at the end of our stay. The room was large and we had one with a private kitchen which made it great to make our own food. They had beautiful gardens and the verandas with hammocks... More

I stayed 3 nights. The mattress needs replacing but I loved the little patio facing the garden. Host was most helpful. Its located just far enough away from the heart of the village to be quiet at night.

We intended to stay here a week and ended up staying one month. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place with views of the exotic garden just outside of the rooms. We spotted humming birds and blue crabs every morning. Rolando and Glenda are very helpful and offer free filtered water at any time of the day. We have... More

Casa de Rolando is a great place to stay on a tight budget. The rooms are wood and tiled with a private bathroom, little patio, and they have kitchen facilities that you can use to cook. It's convenient walking distance from the bus stop and right on the corner of town. The good thing about this is you can walk... More

We ended up staying at this place as some guy met us off the bus and said he'd let us have a double room with private bathroom for $25. Anyway it wasn't his hostal, he was just after a tip. We thought it would be quiet as it was away from the main st, but we could hear the girls... More

I have spent two days in this hostel/guest house, a splendid, stylish jungle lodge type establishment, owned and run by a Swiss gentleman. The rooms are well laid out, the bathrooms are really color coordinated, excellently designed and executed, quality wood craftsmenship everywhere, located in a dense, rich jungle like garden, vegetation overgrowing at every corner. Quiet, relaxed and really... More

Rolando was very welcoming, it almost feels as if you live in their home, which you almost are! =) The rooms are clean, you have your own bathroom with hot water, they are very cheap, especially for the town of Puerto Viejo. You have your own small porch with table, stools and a hammock to relax in. A shared kitchen... More
