My partner and I stayed three days here to celebrate her birthday. It was not easy to find the place as we got there at night... it was worth the while though! Cottages are practically pile dwellings made out of recycled wood right in te middle of the rain forest. No fancy things but all the basic items are there...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it. The owners, Pepo and Sonja, were wonderful and friendly. I disagree with the earlier review which said Pepo is unresponsive- we found quite the opposite. Also read that people were upset about the practice of throwing toilet paper into the bin rather than the toilet- this is...

La Kukula Lodge was amazing!! The owners pepo and sonia are so friendly and they tell you the best spots in the area. For me it was so much more that I expecting and I felt I was in paradise. They have a great ecologic concept but at the same time the rooms are really nice. For me it was...

This lodge is a great place if you like nature, wildlife and quietness. Tropical birds like Tucans and humming birds are part of your daily business. If you are lucky sloths can be seen around the lodge. Several groups of Howling Monkeys live in the area and are likely to wake you up at around 4:30 AM. The owners, a...

We stayed a week at La Kukula. The rooms are nice, new, and airy. The inn was only half full during our stay, and I would guess that was fortunate for us. Because rooms are open, outside noise is unavoidable. On two mornings, another guest with a 2 or 3 year old played on their front porch at 5:30 in...

I've been using Trip Advisor for more than 3 years picking hotels in various countries based on customer feedback and have never been disappointed until now. While La Kukula is situated on a beautiful property that's well maintained, the owners, as another reviewer put it, are "laid back". That's not necessarily a good thing for guests. But that's not my...

This eco-friendly group of cabins is a great place to stay in the Puerto Viejo area. You'll soon find that Sonia is the brains of the operation, making sure fresh fruits are left in your kitchen upon arrival... while Pepo tries to help but at times comes up short. On our fourth night there, the hot water line sprung a...

From La Kukula Lodge; We just want to let TripAdvisor's community know that this did not happen in La Kukula Lodge facilities but a vacation rental home that we manage from La Kukula Lodge. This property does not belong to the "eco-friendly group of cabins" the reviewer state in the above text. The reviewer also attaches a couple of images...

We just got back from two weeks in Costa Rica. The trip ended with 4 nights in Puerto Viejo. The last two nights we spent at La Kukula Lodge and really enjoyed the stay. The buildings at La Kukula are designed with great style and sensitivity and set within the jungle. Natural rather than manicured. The jungle sounds rather than the TV. (They do have wifi) The hosts are charming and engaging and very casual. We stayed 3 nights in January and I would have liked to stay longer. Its a short 5 min...

Our group of eight friends rented the Sloth House for a week and found it to be an absolutely perfect base for our adventures in the area. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
La Kukula Lodge is situated in Playa Chiquita/ Puerto Viejo, next to Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Gandoca-Manzanillo and Cahuita N.P.Built in 2008, La Kukula Lodge follows the principles of sustainable architecture and only plantation wood (teak) has been used in its construction. With its tropical-contemporary style, the bungalows blend naturally with the wooded surroundings: an ideal location to enjoy the flora and fauna the region has to offer. A simple path system running through the garden links each bungalow, the “rancho-bar” and the swimming pool. There are only 8 rooms available, all are very spacious and airy, with their own deck, fans, bathrooms and hot water from a hybrid solar/electric system. All rooms have fantastic views from private terraces onto the sylvan garden. ... more   less
