Hotel Guarana is a small hotel full of colors and good energy. We have 12 rooms individually ,uniquely decorated. We are situated in one of the most quiet and central streets in Puerto Viejo, 200 m. only steps to beach and restaurants. The hotel is safe, private and set in a lush tropical garden of flowers and fauna. Services include; Wireless, Laundry, Safe in room, Parking, communal kitchen totally equipped. English, Spanish, French & Italian spoken.

The accommodation is run by a friendly owner. Rooms are comfortable and the cleanest I stayed in during my time in Puerto Viejo.
The complex is secure and rooms have a free safe. The accommodation is located off a quiet location, a short walk from the main drag.

Nice little rooms cooled by fans. convenient for everything, restaurants, bars, tour agencies etc , all withing walking distance Very secure. Safes in room and hammock outside on porch. A huge variety of cuisines to try.

I actually subscribed to Tripadvisor just to write this review. I wanted everyone to know of this place in Puerto Viejo. After 2 weeks of traveling around Costa Rica and staying at budget hotels and hostels with just the bare necessities. My husband and I wanted something a little nicer when we arrived in Puerto Viejo. We just stumbled on Cabinas Guarana and it was exactly what we were looking for. It is still very basic but so clean, so airy, and with beautiful art all around. The rooms were full of cool light fixtures and art work ( the owner is an interior decoratore). You can see the love and energy put into this place. It is just so light and refreshing and kinda a change from alot of the stuffy and decorless rooms we encountered throughout CR. The best part was it was only 35 per night for a private with bathroom and hot water. They also have a kitchen for public use and a really nice sitting room. Almost all the rooms have little decks with hammocks overlooking the tropical courtyard in the centre of the building.It is right downtown Puerto Viejo just blocks from the beach. It was still basic with no TV but just the feel of the whole place was really nice. Really clean and really nicely decorated. Dont miss the treehouse either. IT is scary but worth the view and a picture!! One more thing, if you are in Puerto Viejo be sure to rent bikes and take a trip to Punta Uva and past there to Manzinillo! IT is so fun and so worth it and you most likely will see monkeys along the way and be greated by the gorgeous unpopluated beach. Ok I love Costa Rica. Have fun and make a reservation in Puerto Viejo espesially on the weekends!

I can forgive many things about budget accommodations, and this place wasn't without out its redeeming qualities (it was quiet) but for 50USD or any amount really you should not find hair covered soap in your room. This was THE ONLY soap too, mind you. We were charged 10 extra dollars for our 3rd person, but not given a third towel. There are many budget friendly options in PV and I would say any one of them would be better. What kind of cleanliness practices are in place if this is what is considered clean and rentable. A truly gross experience. Also staff was unfriendly by Costa Rican standards.

Ugh, the fact that they advertise mosquito nets is a good of enough reason to skip this place. It is just ick, the towels are cheep and some days smelled like smoke, they pretend to provide soap, but it is so watered down it doesn't do anything. A few other things, you can hear the TV and conversations in other rooms, the ventilation is horrible- rooms hotter than outside and everything is just old. Oh and a friend had a bat in her mosquito net. Just stay away.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. This place was probably lovey thirty years ago, but it is well past it’s prime. Everything is done on the cheap here. Cheap mattresses. Thin towels. No shampoo in the showers. Cheap curtains and decorations. Few outlets. Cheap art in the rooms. And there is very weak wifi for a place that is only 20 meters by 20 meters they should invest in a decent wifi router. There was black mold on the bathroom walls. You can do much better in Puerto Viejo.

Be careful! Had to switch rooms on arrival due to visible black mold on the walls. Witnessed them painting OVER it the next day. The location is great. 3 blocks to downtown. The house dog is friendly and beautiful. The garden is nice.

Short walk to the beach and local restaurants. Hotel has a kitchen for guests to prepare their own meals. Bike rental shops and supermarkets very close. It has a small jungle like garden in the center of the buildings.

This hotel is situated in a quiet position in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Staff friendly, owners very nice and helpful with informations and suggestions. Rooms cosy and clean. Supermarket around the corner.

We stayed here in April and found the room to be quite large and clean with hot water, ceiling fan and private terrace complete with hammock. There was a double and a single bed in our room both with mosquito nets. The staff were friendly and rooms were cleaned and towels replaced daily. There is a shared kitchen - this could do with a bit of a scrub but apart from that, all good.
