would have given 5 stars except for the lack of signage out on Rt 34. We went through Cahuita and back tracked on the beach road making it a little tricky to find. That as the only thing that wasn't excellent. Clean, quiet rooms, wonderful deck and pool. Air conditioning worked like a champ. We were wonderfully surprised that we could watch the Super Bowl in our room broadcast in English...a definite plus! Breakfast was fresh each morning with delicious fruit and a selection of entrees. Owner (Sunny) and her family were kind and helpfull hosts. The location is outside of the village...maybe 1/2 mile but it makes everything close enough but it remains quiet enough to believe you're miles away. Nice wildlife on site with aracaris in the trees, sloths out front and agoutis roaming in the yard each day. Very clse to both Playa Negro and Playa Grande as well as all the resturants in the village. This will definitely be our base if ever in Cahuita again.

Lovely time at Magellen. Wonderful relaxing stay and just a short drive into Cahuita. Welcoming owner, cool pool and time to switch off. Great breakfast too! Loved seeing the baby sloth in the garden.

I left my car in the parking zone and when I came back it was hard damaged along the back. The Administrator said to me that he will take care of it, 3 days later he dissappeard and one of the hotel's employee lied to me saying that he doesn't work there anymore. So, I sent an email to the manager and owner of this hotel and his answer was unbelievable for me: "based on our "policies" we need a notification from the Court"; even when there is specific law and lots of jurisprudence about the responsibility he has as the owner of a public parking for private use. He wants me to invest time (I live 300 km from Cahuita's court, where I should go and declare) and money to obligate him to be responsible in life. If the owner and the administrator are like that, I wouldn't expect nothing good from this place. Try any other place, but skip this one, just skip a trouble on your vacations.

We are sorry that your car was damaged during your vacation but we must fallow our insurance and hotel polices. All claims must go through the proper channels. You are asking us to pay for the damages that another car did to your car. This car was not the property of the hotels, it was a clients or a service truck. We helped look for the car that hit your car and did not find it. We physically looked at all the vehicles that were in the parking lot that day and did not find one that had visible signs it had been in a wreak. We drove to see one of the cars that was off property to check for damages. We even helped you take pictures of those vehicles for your INS claims and for the police statement. We are doing our due diligence, and I even offered for you to speak with our lawyers, to which you refused. I can understand that living far way makes this process difficult, we are here waiting for you to come through with the proper procedures according to INS and the court system. Thank you for understanding we want to work with you through this process.

The physical facilities of the Magellan are superb! Beautiful rooms with a/c set in a secluded garden surrounding the pool, with the yoga room and lobby/dining area neatly placed around. We were excited to live there and enjoy what we expexted to be lazy days at the beach, combined with yoga classes. Our stay at the Magellan was the second week of july, and from the website we planned not to come before this month as it was clearly stated there was no yoga on the premises until july. Arriving, there was a promising board in the lobby with the scheduled yoga classes. However, when we wanted to book, the male employee looked at us almost a little bothered, had to go ask the owner and returned with a rather diffuse message of there being no yoga offered now. No excuse made. And that sort of sets the tone of our stay at this place. We have been travelling across the country and only been met by serviceminded hosts, making an effort to ensure our stay is pleasant. At the Magellan we nearly felt like intruders. Being the only paying guests, it really would not have taken too much time just paying a little more attention, showing some interest. There also happened to be reconstruction work and painting, which admittedly added to the feeling of intruding instead of being paying guests. Apparently there were leackages in the tin-roof that needed repair, however the owner did not bother to come and talk to us about this. We had to seek the information ourselves from the staff. The noise from the roof work was all but peaceful. We would have loved to recommend the place based on the lovely premises and great breakfast. However this place lacks in personal feeling and good vibes, and we left wondering why this place is open to guests. We will book somewhere else next time.

Thank you for your review we are happy you enjoyed the ground of the property. I do apologize for my delayed response but I was trying to find the right way in which to answer your review. My staff may have appeared unfriendly but this was due to the immense discomfort that they felt about the actions of one of your companions. I would like to describe this but do to the family friendly review rules I can not tell our side of the story. . I am sorry that the yoga classes were not available as our scheduled teacher had to return to the USA unexpectedly but we do have yoga class running again as scheduled on the board. In response to the roof tin being replaced I had no other option, the total hour spent working at the hotel durning your families stay was 5 hours, broken up into two days with the weekend being free of any disruptions.
