We ended up at Chilamate Rainforest not because of a tour company recommendation (our driver whose been leading tours in CR for 20 years couldn't find the place) - but because we wanted to be away from the crowds over New Year's week and well - I planned the trip about 30 days

Upon arrival, we were first greeted by Gerardo, a gregarious, warm, friendly member of the staff. He took us to the lodge itself where we were next welcomed by Davis and Meghan, the owners, and then their three children, each a joy to meet. The family is interactive and

Highly recommended ! We loved our stay there. Excellent installations, food and services. Meghan and William were of great help to arrange activities and suggested tours we appreciated very much (river duckies, chocolate tour, organic farm tour).

How do we get there from San Jose? We don't want to have to rent a car.
Hello! From San Jose we can arrange for a private driver to pick you up. The cost is $130 door to door and you are welcome to stop along the way. The trip is 1.5-2 hours, depending on traffic. You can also take the public bus here from the Guapileños-Caribeños-Gran Caribe bus terminal directly to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui (not Talamanaca!). The bus ride is about 2-2.5 hours and is very inexpensive. Once you arrive at the terminal in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui you can catch another bus here to Chilamate and get off in front of the Chilamate School, cross the road and then the bridge over the Sarapiqui River and our place is on the right, down the path, along the rivers edge. You can also get a taxi from the terminal for $6-8 and they will take you directly to our walking entrance. Have our phone number handy incase they don't know where we are! (8992-1611). Pura Vida!!

Hello! I am sorry, I just saw this message!! Our private rooms are all screened and we don't have problems with mosquitoes. In the Jungle House and hostal all of the beds have bug nets! I hope this is helpful to others, even if it is not relevant to you anymore. Pura Vida from Chilamate!
