This was the first time my wife, our one-year-old, and I was visiting Costa Rica and we couldn't be happier with our choice of staying with them. Even before our arrival, I must have sent 30 emails with questions after questions and they answered all of them patiently. During our stay, Megan and her staff were super friendly and hospitable. Thank you so much for giving us such a good experience!

My wife and I knew and loved Chilamate from our many previous visits. This time we brought our two grandsons (ages 7 and 4) and their parents. Together we stayed for a full week. We love the comfortable, family atmosphere of the lodge. It is a great location for birding, swimming and rafting. We also took advantage of the local Chocolate Tour, the nocturnal walk and the early morning bird walk (so many, diverse and colorful birds!). And there was always time for late afternoon relaxation. Our grandsons had never visited Cost Rica. They flourished here, even attempted speaking some Spanish There is a real family atmosphere to Chilamate. Meghan and Davis promote the local community, and their care is evident in the conscientious friendliness of the staff. In addition, Meghan gave us great advice for local activities, and she facilitated scheduling and payment. We did not have to worry about prices or tips. She knows the community, and she took care of all the details for us.

My 7 year old and I really liked this family friendly, rustic rain forest retreat. Lots of delicious breakfast choices, great connections to tours that support the local community and a friendly multigenerational vibe. The morning alarm clock is the sound of howler monkeys and the night time nature sound of frogs and cicadas chirp you to sleep. We stayed in the family suite to have access to a kitchen, as the (delicious, but not included) dinner was our of our price range. This was a great space for us and included comfy beds, a hammock and a gigantic shower. It's nice to have the option of a screen-free vacation with no TV, but , if you need it, there's good wifi signal in common spaces. Staff and their family were super friendly.

My family stayed for a week in the top floor of the jungle house, and it was like nowhere I've ever been before--not to mention absolutely magical for our kids (3 and 7). We were busy every day with activities and outings, from swimming in the river to the multitude of other opportunities close by. The lodge and our space was a soft landing for meals, sleep and downtime. We felt welcome and completely supported, beautifully fed and surrounded by forest.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Wife loves birds so this was something of a birdlife Mecca (lots of other wildlife, on-site nature walks and surrounding activities also). Staff, food and facilities really good, only issue they can't do anything about is school/speedbumps on main road and resultant traffic noise so needed earplugs at night due to heavier than anticipated traffic on main road which is 100 meters away but still audible.

Our family of five ( 2 adults, 3 kids) had a wonderful time at the family-run Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat. We stayed for 3 nights in the top floor of the Jungle lodge and had the whole floor to ourselves. It was very reasonably priced and the rooms and bathrooms were spacious and very clean. We were able to see lots of amazing wildlife just while relaxing in the hammock on our balcony. (A big family of Howler monkeys, toucans & bats to name a few!) The Sarapiqui river is just on their doorstep so very easy to access for rafting/ swimming etc. Everyone was very welcoming - the owner Davis was a cheerful guy who always took the time to say hi and chat when we passed. His family helped us to book some great tours. We would definitely recommend the Best Chocolate tour, the Canopy zip line tour and the White water rafting tour down the Sarapiqui river. All the guides were very knowledgeable and pointed out wildlife that we would never have spotted ourselves! Breakfast was included in the price and there was a good selection of hot and cold food on offer. Fruit, pancakes, scrambled egg and local Costa-Rican cuisine - all delicious! What we really loved, was the family commitment to sustainable tourism and the preservation of the environment around them. They have a strong presence in their local community and have made a great effort to support the local people with various initiatives. We were so inspired by their work and pleased to be able to support them by staying at the retreat. If we ever come back to visit Sarapiqui, we would definitely stay again!

Absolutely lovely family - Feels like they are hosting you. You are truly immersed in nature and you are by the river. Absolutely beautiful! The food was delicious and our kids loved the open air room. We did the fantastic chocolate tour nearby and then went river rafting nearby.

Loved this place! You are totally in nature here. The people and food are also wonderful. When it's raining (which it does a lot), just relax in one of the hammocks hanging from every beam. Thank you so much!

We stayed at the Beach Camp (in Playa Pelada) not the Rainforest Retreat. Stayed for a month in the converted school bus they have down there and loved it! Nice location close to the beach (5 mins to Pelada and 15 to the surf beach of Guiones), all the guys working there were super friendly and we had our own kitchen area and bathroom which got cleaned regularly, as well as fresh towels. There are bikes available to use which makes getting into town and shops really easy. Nice chilled atmosphere and a very friendly dog who came with us to the beach every day. Good wifi also. There are rooms and tents on offer as well as the bus. Would give an even higher rating if I could! Thanks guys 🙏

This place far surpassed our expectations. Megan and family were so lovely and helpful. The place was much nicer that I had anticipated for the price point. We had a wonderful experience here and appreciated all their efforts at conservation, environmental awareness, sustainability and community. Not just lip service. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful (they kept supplementing pancakes for my kids!). And they set up a great rafting trip with Enrique - not the typical commercial outfitter, but another sustainable and community-minded organization. I really wish we had planned to stay there longer.
