This is a great hotel to stay when traveling to and from San Jose, 12 minutes to airport! We had a nice stay just one night and enjoyed dinner at the hotel. We left for the airport late and I forgot my headphones, after panicking at the airport we called front desk and they ran up to room found them and sent them to the airport within 15 minutes! Absolutely incredible! Amazing service.
Wonderful stay and dinner at this hotel before a flight. Our server at hacienda kitchen was fantastic. He was friendly and told us how he’d been with the hotel for 14 years and just had twins babies (I’m spacing his name). But if management reads this, he was fantastic with his recommendations. He let us move tables to a beautiful view. Took care of even bringing us gelato from the coffee house. Then, he went out of his way and tracked us down because we had forgotten a bag of items we’d just purchased from the gift shop we left at the table. He was great and everyone from the bell hop to the restaurants were really helpful and we enjoyed the grounds and beauty of this special place.
Phenomenal breakfast buffet. Quiet location with great comfortable beds, and very clean. Location is great for a stay before or after a flight into SJO airport. They offer a $15USD per room shared airport transfer on the hour, but a taxi is only $20 if you prefer.
We stayed here 1 night on our way in after arriving in San Jose and before heading to La Fortuna. And then also on our way out, 1 night after arriving from Monteverde and leaving for Houston early the next morning. For our second night, we did an early checkin via the Bonvoy app, and got a room at noon instead of having to wait until 4pm. Really nice building and campus. Great views from the terrace bar and restaurant in the back. Well appointed rooms, although not as sound proof given the wooden floors and echoing hallways. Having stayed Marriott hotels for many years, the price/value for this place was unbeatable (at least for us for the rate we paid!).
Stayed here for one night on our journey onward. Amazing place and beutiful surrounding near the airport. Would highly recommend it as an overnight transit place to relax. They have great restaurants also. A bit too American but it works for one night!
We stayed here on our last night before leaving Costa Rica. It is very close to the airport. This is not a hotel I would base a stay out of CR, but it was great for our purposes. They had two pools, a hot tub, and a playset for the kids. There was also a golf course and driving range, though we did not use either. The pools were cold, but I am not sure that I can fault them for that. The property was very pretty and the room was nice. As another review mentioned, the gift shop was surprisingly quite nice and filled with some different things I had not seen the week prior. The front desk was quick; there was a small hiccup and they fixed it immediately. They had a few restaurants, food was slightly above average at the restaurant one we ate at. This is a perfect spot to start or end a stay close to the airport.…
This is a fabulous hotel in many ways—beautiful architecture, setting, views, amenities, etc. The service, however, has deteriorated. Hopefully it’s just a temporary difficulty due to staffing issues with the pandemic. We had a terrific stay five years ago, but this time was disappointing. We faced several issues during our stay. We had to wait at the front desk for a very long to check in and get any attention. We paid extra for a room with access to the Executive Lounge, and the dinner there on our first night was sparse and offered nothing we liked. There should be at least one vegetarian main dish like a simple pasta for those that don’t eat meat. We opted for a quick bite at Bar10 and ended up waiting over 30 minutes for fish and shrimp tacos, both of which were quite unimpressive. Last issue of note was that our shower leaked so much that the bathroom floor flooded each time we took a shower. On a positive note, we took the historical tour (offered daily), and it was truly the highlight of our stay. Andrea, our tour guide, was impressive and helped us appreciate the hotel’s architecture and gardens. She also taught us a bit about the importance of coffee to the country’s history and culture. Thank you, Andrea, for adding a personal touch and making our stay memorable. We’d like to return to this hotel and hope it recovers its previous top-notch quality of service and cuisine.…
The property is beautiful and the staff is very nice and pleasant. The food, however, is awful. We had 3 different experiences. We were here for 1 night. Im a loyal bonvoy member so I try to stay at a Marriott wherever I go. My husband and I ate at the main restaurant. Ordered two cocktails, chickpea app, shrimp app, chicken and rice and beans, and the sofrito pasta entree. It took 45 min to get our apps. People who sat down around us after us received their entrees before us. The chickpea app was good… the shrimp app was fine- none of the flavors really go together but the mango salsa was fresh. The chicken and rice dish came out cold. The beans tasted like the were burnt. The sofrito dish was ravioli- it was not edible. The pasta wasn’t cooked all the way and the inside tasted like mushy meat. Not good! We then waited 15 min for our bill My husband ended up ordering a Turkey sandwich from room service because he was still hungry. He said no bacon. He waited an hour and a half and it came with bacon We had an executive lounge room so for breakfast we ate at the lounge. Nothing was impressive. Bread was so hard. The fruit was really good and fresh though! It feels like this property is trying to Americanize all dishes when we came here for good local food.…
I regret staying here. It went downhill from the moment I pulled in and the valet gave me an attitude about stopping in front of the hotel to unload and pick up the room key. Dinner at the Hacienda Kitchen was a better experience. The woman who seated us, Vera, was kind enough to let us switch to a table with a better view, even though it had not been setup and she had to clean it first. The trouble was with the waiter who took over for her. He was slow to take our order, didn’t tell us anything about the menu and when we started ordering, it turned out they didn’t have items we wanted. By the end of dinner he completely disappeared and I had to sit at the table until Vera came to my rescue again and brought me the check. To be fair, the food was good, the room was clean and the grounds are picturesque. Also, the staff in the executive club area were friendly and helpful. In the morning, the door lock failed and we were locked out of the room. After 30 minutes and four trips to the front desk, someone showed up to let us in but couldn’t do it and had to get help himself. Eventually, they replaced the battery and we got in. The utter lack of urgency to take care of a very basic problem was disappointing, to say the least. Luckily, I am not a frequent Marriott guest and after this experience, never will be.…
We intended to just crash here on our first night of arrival but liked the hotel so much we decided to make it our home base between adventures. You can get to most sites in Costa Rica in 3 hours or so — Arenal volcano, Mauro Antonio, Monteverde, even Tamarindo, and many your companies or drivers will do one day tours from San Jose. We found a great local driver affiliated with the hotel who was an excellent guide and a great resource: Cristian Hernandez (506) 7065-6615 on WhatsApp who’ll take you anywhere you want to go. Everyone uses WhatsApp and accepts US dollars. The hotel has beautiful pools and grounds and mountain views, great service (special shout out to the awesome & hardworking team in the Club Lounge and Carlos at the front desk!) and was an oasis between trips. You can also get a COVID test in the hotel for a discounted rate, same company as the one at the airport. Also nice amenities for Bonvoy members. We will be back!…
