These tree houses are great, lovely views plus the hammocks and eating space underneath. But the special factor is Amisar, I hope I'm spelling your name right, the manager when we were there, who went above and beyond what she needed to do to make sure we had a really memorable visit. We would not have seen turtles hatching without the help of her and her novio and we are so so grateful.

The elevated tree house (there are 4 of these cabins), give a fantastic view over the ocean. Two steps from the stairs there is the gate to the beach. Wonderful. The tree house is well-equipped and typically decorated by wood pillars. It also has airconditioning and a clean bathroom. Free parking was available and there is a pool (more for children than adults). Beneath the cabin there is two hammocks, two loungers and the breakfast table. We loved this place as it is the nice combination of relaxing and central point for sightseeing. The wind gives a nice breeze into the tree house and squirrels and lizards can be watched from the house climbing the palm trees. Restaurants and trips are all around available as well as surf possibilities. The staff is very friendly and serves a nice breakfast in the morning

Absolutely adorable. I stayed in a treehouse unit, and all treehouse units have an amazing beachfront view. Each treehouse unit is upstairs with a large picture window that fully opens. The main room is a sitting area with kitchen and small 2 person bar top table. There is a bathroom with a door and a bedroom at the back of the unit with AC. The main room does not have AC, but is cool at night from the ocean breeze. Hammocks, dining/game tables and comfortable lounge chairs fill the areas below the treehouses. There are grills and a shower to rinse off the salt and sand. Lovely pool and entire property is gated as well. Treehouse units are perfect for solo or couple, and there are poolside bungalows well suited for a small family. Plenty of beachside surf schools and restaurants within walking distance. Staff is warm and friendly. This was a one night trip for me, while staying in Nosara (1 hour drive). The surf here is smaller and cleaner than May in Nosara and no rip current, so great for beginners/intermediate. Overall, great experience and I’ll return here.

This was our 12th year staying at the Tree House. I can't say enough on how wonderful it is: the location is perfect, pool is great, wonderful breakfast and a staff that is fantastic! Breakfast includes a fruit plate and a different choice each day of either eggs, pancake or french toast. Coffee is always on. The staff has been there forever. After spending 10 days there, we were going to Tambor for 4 days but my husband got sick the day we were to leave and didn't feel up to taking the trip. Isamar was fantastic finding us a place to stay for 2 nights because the Tree House was booked, then back for the final 2 days. We are already booked for next year, they are the best ever!!

We stayed for a week in one of the poolside rooms and enjoyed it immensely. You can literally walk out of the hotel, onto he beach and into the action. The included breakfast was simple but substantial and varied from day to day -- somedays eggs and toast, somedays pancakes or French toast, somedays an omelette. The staff was friendly and accommodating; in particular, Isamar was most helpful in arranging tours, transport, etc. The hotel is right across the street from a small supermarket and excellent restaurant (Samara Sushi), so it can be a bit noisy in the evenings. Although our room offered a/c, we prefer not to have cold air blowing on us in the night, so we slept with the window open. Unfortunately, it didn't have a screen so the local mosquito population is now well-fed. Also we had a busted toilet seat and the bathroom often smelled of sewer gas. Still in all, we had a great time at the Treehouse Inn. Sadly, when we tried to get a reservation for next year, we found all the treehouse units already booked for the time we plan to come.

We just experienced two wonderfully relaxing weeks at the Samara Tree House Inn. If you are looking for a traditional Costa Rican "Pura Vida" experience, this is definitely the place to stay. First, it is conveniently located in the charming "tico" downtown of Samara with beachfront access. The location is exceptional, as you wake up in the morning to the sights and sounds of the ocean a stone's throw away. Its rustic unique look draws much attention of people passing by. This was our 4th stay at the resort. We are repeat customers for a reason - we love it! The staff has been consistent over the years and consider themselves "family." They are extremely friendly, courteous, professional, and helpful. We have had the privilege of developing personal relationships with each one. The Treehouse provides a very clean and safe environment. The amenities are simple but adequate. A traditional breakfast is served every morning which we found delicious and substantial. Rooms are cleaned and prepared daily always with a "touch of love." There's a very nice small pool for cooling off or for an extra workout. If you need a massage, transportation, laundry service or anything else, the staff will very willingly arrange these services for you. This is not intended nor presented as a "5 star hotel," but if you are looking for a relaxing quiet stay in a charming Costa Rican town, we would give it 5 stars! It is also a wonderful meeting place to make friends with other guests. We would recommend Samara Tree House unconditionally for those looking for a traditional Costa Rican experience! Norm & Susan

We began planning our visit to Samara Treehouse Inn during 2020. The reviews were wonderful and a friend had recommended. Due to COVID, we had to bump our trip to Nov 2021. I never questioned the referral or the reviews I saw as our trip got delayed. However, on arrival we were so disappointed!! Clearly, things have changed. I have been so upset that I didn't look around the area more and read deeper into reviews before confirming our stay here. I am confused by all the spectacular reviews, but if you dig, you will find other reviews more in line with our experience. I also was told the property is for sale, so maybe that factors in. The breakfast looked nothing like the photos, nor as our friend recalled. It was minimal, not hearty, no breakfast meats, and no seconds. You got one choice, if even a choice at all. And if there were pancakes, you got ONE. I have 3 grown boys and we often passed on breakfast and went somewhere to pay for it. Many mornings, they would serve part of our group and never come back to serve the others who arrived after us even though it was still within the "breakfast time." The rooms were very uncomfortable for us. THE BEDS WERE TERRIBLE, the linens, pillows, everything. We got very poor sleep. And the beds are double/full. NOT QUEEN! Very small for 2 adults used to a king at home. This was one of the biggest disappointments. We had bug issues, especially in the area not cooled by AC. The front windows that open to the ocean have a portion that do not close. Anytime we turned on lights at night, BUGS!!!! And even during day, we had tons of small ant like bugs crawling everywhere. I would never have food on the counter, nor try to cook in this situation. Everything went in the fridge. We rented 4 units of the 6 overall. One of the units microwave didn't work, the porch light was out (hard to see on stairs at night), the handles to the shower knobs were falling out of the wall, and no extra linens were available if someone was to sleep on couch area. We were told ahead of time that it would be easy to arrange transportation, laundry, and COVID testing once on site. It was not!!! There was no laundry facility in Samara that we could find and staff was no help. We did find a service to do our laundry for us eventually. It worked out, but not what we were told when inquiring before our trip. When we tried to arrange COVID testing, which had to be done 24 hours or less prior to flight, we were told the doctor was not available and tests would now be $120 (prior to travel we were told $55/person). We ended up just using the testing service at airport, which is the best bet anyway I suppose, but just one more hassle to deal with. A few of the staff were fine and friendly, one gal was particularly helpful and spoke the best English, but one gentleman was not helpful and there was a huge gap in communication. He was there often. I was concerned about setting up return transportation to airport, but luckily it worked out. Although when I asked about local transport, which I was told prior would be easy to arrange, the on site staff could not accommodate. Once on site, any questions I directed to Heidi by email, who I spoke with repeatedly prior to travel, were never answered by Heidi and deflected to the property - which again was not always helpful. It made for a more stressful trip trying to figure out things I thought I had information for. There are no beach accommodations as there are with other hotels nearby - don't believe the photos from the past! I heard they used to use their reception for a bar area and serve drinks at night, but that did not happen during our week long stay. From the moment we arrived, I wanted to switch hotels but we had paid in advance by personal check. The only nice thing was the pool, which is small, but was pretty clean most of the time and a blessing in the heat and humidity. We could have had better accommodation and consolidated to lesser rooms for a better price close by. Live and learn I suppose. But please do you research before arriving and experiencing a less than acceptable stay in Samara. For the price, you can stay elsewhere and hopefully enjoy your trip more than we did.

Response from Heidi Cleveland, General Manager at Samara Tree House Inn
Responded Dec 15, 2021
Dear Shelli, I am very sad and sorry to read this review of your trip. We have many guests who love the hotel and our staff, and return every year to stay at the Treehouse. Yes, it is more “rustic” than US hotels, and it is located on the beach in Costa Rica, so some bugs are natural in that location, but it is a wonderful place overall. Many of our guests are vegetarian or vegan, and so not want meat at breakfast, and we had to stop the bar service due to Covid so we are unable to offer that at this time. Also, the Covid testing lab changes their prices sometimes for the tests, and that is completely out of our control. During these difficult times for so many people, I am sorry that the hotel was not up to your standards, but it is unfortunate that you would feel compelled to write such a negative review of our hotel and staff, which so many people do enjoy and appreciate. And our staff is like a family, many of whom have been with us for over ten years, and is always doing their best.

We absolutely loved our stay here. To begin, the property is quite unique, the elevated, natural wood rooms provide an unparalleled view of the beach and the ocean. The room was clean, the bedroom air conditioned and the large front window provided hours of joy, just looking out. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the daily breakfast was fine. We didn't use the pool, we did use the hammock extensively. The location is perfect. Just outside the gate is a large beach with palm trees at the edge. The ocean in this location was the perfect temperature, the waves were intense but fun. The beach is frequented by both tourists and locals. The surrounding neighborhood offers a variety of restaurants, bars, markets, fruit vendors and more.

Our stay at Tree House Samara was memorable. We absolutely loved the location, in the heart of Samara and ocean front. The views from the treehouse were breathtaking. We enjoyed the pool as well as the hammocks and lounge chairs for plenty of relaxing and recharging. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful and the breakfast was plentiful and tasty.

We've stayed at a half dozen locations in Samara over our multiple stays and love the Tree House for its quaint cottages and amazing location. No property overlooks the beach and ocean as much as the Tree House -- there is nothing like waking up to the sounds, smells, and sights of the ocean water and many a beach goer looks jealously up at the cozy visitors in the Tree House rooms. It obviously doesn't provide the luxury of a 5-star hotel but it's an excellent value for the room prices. Luis and the others there provide outstanding support and service -- they've all been there for many years and really care about the comfort and satisfaction of the guests. And they provide fantastic breakfasts.
