Firstly, these staff deserve a special mention as they are a credit to this hotel. Nicole Acevedo, Carlos garrova, Joselyn Lara Mendoza and Javier astua. Their beautiful smiles and cheerfulness every morning and evening in the bar were a joy. Thankyou. The hotel grounds is pure beauty where the Pacific Ocean meets the jungle. However, food could have been served better. I got fed up sending broken crockery back to the kitchen. Food was an array of inconsistencies. If it said on the menu potatoes you may get creamed corn for instance. But they ask you if you have allergies! Food was expensive and bland. A morning omelette would turn up with more or less filling than the time before. One evening we were barred from the restaurant because they had a special event. $70 dollars per person. It was a 3 course meal with saxophone player. The menu was poor. I saw one table of 8 and 2 tables of 2. Any restaurant guests were given a limited snack menu which was expensive as the restaurant but consisted of bread and anything fried. I opted for hamburger patty with chips. What a mistake! There was so much grease from the burger, the bottom bun was dripping in it and the greaseproof paper was transparent. The fries were sticks of hollow grease. There was no potato at all. I should have sent it back but we were so hungry we ate it. Unfortunately my husband's was no better. I brought mine back up a few hours later. The next day we complained to an elder restaurant who masqueraded as a manager about treatment of being pushed out of the restaurant and poor food from the snack menu and his answer was. Thankyou for your feedback. He appeared to have no empathy or apology. Another evening we sat for an hour waiting for two pieces of grilled chicken with fruit sauce. I complained after 45 minutes as guests that arrived after us were getting their food. We were served a tiny bowl of guacamole with about ten tortilla crisps as a way of apology. Again, we were unimpressed as there were only 5 tables in the restaurant that evening. We didn't eat in the restaurant for the next week. There was another older man who was taking orders. He was as miserable as sin and hoped we wouldn't get him in the morning. Reception staff were friendly. If you asked for extra coffee and cream for your room the cream didn't always arrive. The pool was tiny and held many leaves and volcanic sand from the beach. There were problems with faulty key locks. The rooms were tired with stained collapsing sofa and chairs. The room Opome ll was ridiculously huge but there was no where to hang an evening dress! Come on! The building maintenance is poor. There were stained ceilings and bulbs missing. Our apartment door didn't close for the whole time. We reported it staff. A shrugging maintenance man appeared, looked at it and we never saw him again. The staircase was dark and dangerous. When we arrived we had a party of 6 males who shouted, screamed and ran about day & night like animals which was really annoying. I even saw their dog come out of their room! There are many dogs on the beach some without owners. They were going to the toilet and there was no one about to clear up after it. This hotel chain needs to get it's act together for a 4 star resort. You're taking good money off people, provide some luxury.

I didn't really enjoy my stay here, though we made the best of it. I was disappointed with this hotel, especially after reading the great reviews. I have been to Costa Rica quite a few times and this is my least favorite hotel. Here are the pros - rooms are clean, beach is nice, breakfast is okay. The staff are nice. Here are my cons - the pool is so small and the property is tiny. It is also very smelly, especially near the pool area where the monkeys hang out above. Also, the pool area is basically in the middle of the hotel between the rooms and the front desk/restaurant, so it just feels like a high traffic walkway and not a relaxing place. The restaurant is just so-so, but there aren't any other good options nearby so be prepared for average/below average meals. Bottom Line: With SOOO many amazing hotels in Costa Rica, pick a different one. Most other people we chatted with at the hotel also had so-so experiences.

I went solo for my birthday - brown girl on the move. I actually found the hotel on the website for the Costa Rican embassy. I wanted to go someplace characteristic of Costa Rica, some place very special, off the beaten path, and not like every other chain resort all over the world. I wanted to feel like I was in a tropical palace in a jungle, and that is exactly what I got. I love that the hotel is remote and secluded and truly amid the trees. Trees even grew through the floors. The diversity of trees was astounding. Lizards, monkeys, tropical birds, happy crabs - all of those creatures were among us. There were biting flying bugs, so bring spray. I got eaten alive, but it didn't bother me. The staff really welcomed me. Everyone knew my name, and they made me feel like I lived there - like a rich person on a tv show who lives at a resort. The locale was very safe. It was near other beach resorts, so a short stroll down the beach brought me into contact with many other people, but the entry to Hotel Bosque is very private, so there were not a lot of tourists wandering about the hotel. The food was phenomenal... well, everything savory. I enjoyed the lemon cake, but overall, the sweet dishes were so/so. Otherwise, delectable - the fruit and fish were very fresh, the drinks were awesome, the ceviche was outstanding, and there is a breakfast dish with tofu, eggs, and tomato sauce that I could have died in. I even enjoyed a wonderful massage in the resort. There were also masseuses up and down the beach. My room was extremely clean - I checked for bedbugs. There were none. The shower was romantic. I will treasure my memories of this trip forever. Two caveats: for those who want to dance, carouse, and party - Hotel Bosque is not a choice. It is quiet, tranquil, and exclusive. It is a great place to just be. Also, there were few Black Americans there, but it was not weird, at all. Not At All. No weird looks, questions, vibes. Pura Vida. One wish: I wish they had a yoga class. I did yoga on the beach and in my room. It is a yogi's dream spot.

Beautiful hotel and grounds. Well appointed suites with good views. Excellent experience with all staff members. Amazing location, both in the jungle and within feet of a gorgeous beach. I've never seen as good a set up as they have here, unique. It is a hidden gem as others have said. Cons: -Practically nothing within walking distance, but we knew this when booking and planned on having a car anyway. -Besides breakfast the restaurant food is horrendous, some of the worst I've had on any vacation, and very pricey by any standard. If you don't like spending a lot of money for food that you will have to consider whether to even eat or not, you'll have to get in a car and drive elsewhere. The food is my only complaint, but on vacation food is a pretty big deal.

The outstanding service began before we even actually got there. Through WhatsApp I was in communication with people from the hotel who were helping us plan excursions during our stay. The excursions we picked were fun and went without any hiccups due to the planning that we were helped with. When we did arrive we were pleasantly welcomed by the front desk staff, given a refreshing drink and were explained all that we needed to know about the hotel and what it has to offer. Our room, we stayed in the Opome Suite, was better than described. It is large, extremely comfortable and offers outstanding views as it is on the third floor. It has a wraparound porch and sitting areas that beside the views, offers a relaxing area outside to sit and take in the sights and sounds. One of the best features of this hotel is something that is not listed in any of the descriptions, but is what can really shift the scales of a vacation from being regretful, to just ok or pretty good, to outstanding is the staff. All the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful, engaging and memorable as my wife and I still talk about the experiences we had. I wish I could name them all because they all deserve recognition, but the two that stood out a little above the rest are Keithy and Chef Misael. This brings us to the hotel restaurant. Chef Misael is very talented and creates quite spectacular dishes. We really didn’t need to eat outside of the hotel restaurant, which we did once. The area of Playa Hermosa and surrounding towns does have much to offer in the way of restaurants if you do choose to eat elsewhere. We chose the option of having breakfast included in our package and am thankful we did. Not only were the meals delicious and well prepared, they made it easy to get the day off to a great start. The fresh fruit that is provided is scrumptious, especially the papaya. I whole heartily recommend this hotel and am confident you will find it as welcoming, relaxing and worth the investment as we did.

We stayed at Bosque Del Mar for three nights in the rainy season (late September) and had a wonderful time. The hotel is clean, well-equipped, and literally next to the beach. A number of activities are offered including boat tours to private beaches (we saw dolphins and turtles!) and kayaking. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was good and covered both Costa Rican and more Americanized tastes. Some reviews noted spotty WiFi, but we didn't experience this. The beach itself was beautiful and quiet. While September is rainy season, we only experienced rain twice, both times late in the day (3pm-ish) and the storm passed within an hour.
