I went solo for my birthday - brown girl on the move. I actually found the hotel on the website for the Costa Rican embassy. I wanted to go someplace characteristic of Costa Rica, some place very special, off the beaten path, and not like every other chain resort all over the world. I wanted to feel like I was in a tropical palace in a jungle, and that is exactly what I got. I love that the hotel is remote and secluded and truly amid the trees. Trees even grew through the floors. The diversity of trees was astounding. Lizards, monkeys, tropical birds, happy crabs - all of those creatures were among us. There were biting flying bugs, so bring spray. I got eaten alive, but it didn't bother me. The staff really welcomed me. Everyone knew my name, and they made me feel like I lived there - like a rich person on a tv show who lives at a resort. The locale was very safe. It was near other beach resorts, so a short stroll down the beach brought me into contact with many other people, but the entry to Hotel Bosque is very private, so there were not a lot of tourists wandering about the hotel. The food was phenomenal... well, everything savory. I enjoyed the lemon cake, but overall, the sweet dishes were so/so. Otherwise, delectable - the fruit and fish were very fresh, the drinks were awesome, the ceviche was outstanding, and there is a breakfast dish with tofu, eggs, and tomato sauce that I could have died in. I even enjoyed a wonderful massage in the resort. There were also masseuses up and down the beach. My room was extremely clean - I checked for bedbugs. There were none. The shower was romantic. I will treasure my memories of this trip forever. Two caveats: for those who want to dance, carouse, and party - Hotel Bosque is not a choice. It is quiet, tranquil, and exclusive. It is a great place to just be. Also, there were few Black Americans there, but it was not weird, at all. Not At All. No weird looks, questions, vibes. Pura Vida. One wish: I wish they had a yoga class. I did yoga on the beach and in my room. It is a yogi's dream spot.…
