Margaritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo is celebrated for its prime location, offering direct and convenient beach access which many guests describe as perfect. The hotel's cleanliness generally receives a thumbs up, though a few travelers have suggested areas like bathrooms could benefit from further attention. While the rooms are deemed spacious, opinions vary regarding their modernity and upkeep. The resort's atmosphere is mostly appreciated for its relaxing nature, though some guests find the music intrusive. Service at the hotel is often commended; the staff's friendliness and professionalism stand out. Amenities, including pools and dining, are a hit, but some visitors feel there's room for enhancement, especially considering the resort's value proposition where views on affordability diverge.

My family of 4 stayed for over a week and really enjoyed it. I went into the vacation comparing it to some high-end all inclusives we've been to in the past in other tropical locations, so was a little disappointed in some little things. But then I considered this is more of a fun family friendly hotel on the beach, with a hot breakfast included, a three star hotel. When I changed my perspective I decided it was a 5 star stay and not a 4 star. It was generally a good value, we could afford two rooms, instead of jamming four people into one room. What made it 5 stars was the people who work there. They were all very friendly and accommodating, every single encounter. Almost everyone there is fluent in English and it was clean. We originally were planning on going all inclusive for meals and drinks, but I am really glad we didn't. The food was OK for breakfast, but not great otherwise. It is very easy and safe to walk to nearby restaurants for variety, so I would highly recommend that. The rec room above the lobby was fun for adults and kids. I followed the advice of previous reviewers, and booked our excursion with Minor Gonzales with Major Tours. He communicated well, exceeded our expectations, and it was a pleasure spending a day with him. I cannot recommend him enough. See other reviews for his contact info. You will not regret it, go for it! We also did the sunset cruise with snorkeling through the hotel like many people suggest, and had a marvelous time! George and Jonathon were great hosts. It was also a good value, I thought. The beach is across a (not very busy) road and is wonderful. No washed up weeds, or dead fish, you can walk barefoot at night without stepping on anything to hurt your feet and it feels safe. We snorkeled out there but saw little to nothing except a wavy sand bottom, so snorkel elsewhere. I was a little worried before the trip after reading a few bad reviews here, but really this place was pretty awesome!

Had a great time (7 days) here, the staff are amazing, always happy saying hello and making sure everything is alright, this included the maintenance, shop, house keeping and security staff as well. There was always cleaning being done or doing some tidying up to keep the hotel in good order. The staff at all the bars were great and also the different restaurants. Every morning at breakfast we were greeted really nicely and the lovely ladies who prepared our omelettes even help teach us some Spanish. The staff in the Italian restaurant were great welcoming us each time as if it was our first plus the front of house doing little extras to make it special. The food is really good and even though we didn't have a pizza they look good. All the food was good and good size portion, some of the sandwiches are big specially the club ;-). We had a great time at Its 5 o'clock Somewhere and again great staff. We even met the manager as we came back from a morning walk where all the staff were having a group photo as a team building exercise out the front entrance by the giant flip flop, then they went of to do deep cleaning in different areas of the hotel they don't normally working in with their different colleagues, very impressive. The hotel was just the right size for a chilled out holiday, just what we were looking for. The near by beach is lovely and the sea, however the waves can be a strong so have fun with them. Every morning after breakfast we walked the entire length end to end seeing different wild life. Had a great walk from the hotel with the activities manager, who pointed out all kinds of interesting things and views. Was a nice way to spend a hour and fun. The resort boat is cool, we did a sunset cruise, one word, brilliant and again the crew, fab, watered/beered/wined and fed us, nice. We talked with other guess who did different excursions and all had a wonderful time as we did seeing wild life and specially the trip to see turtles laying eggs on the beach at night heading in and out of the sea. Word of warning, to get to the beach is not for the unsteady and good foot wear is a must as it is quite a difficult trek in the dark with a small torch through a forestry bit i.e. look out for stuff you don't want to meet up close but a great adventure and amazing experience, loads of stars as there is no light pollution and the guides only have a red torch, no other lighting is allow and you need to wear dark clothes and long pants plus mossy spray. So to sum it up, great holiday, great staff, lovely hotel and good location, will go back for longer.

Margaritaville is a decent American style resort that is very clean and well maintained with good service. The resort did not appear to be full while we were there, but the two main areas for guests to hang out, the pool and the bar, were very full. There were definitely not enough pool lounges if the place was busier. Unfortunately the food offered at the resort was very disappointing. The breakfast (buffet only) was worse than a Holiday Inn and most of the hot items were not hot. The pizza at the Italian restaurant was surprisingly good however. Most meals we walked to the nearby restaurants (our favorite, Palmeras Flamingo, was exceptional). The nice sandy beach is on a bay with mild waves separated from the resort by a not very busy public road.

Only resort I’ve been to in my life that only allows you one towel at a time, especially ridiculous for a supposed 4 star. Only towel exchange location is at the front lobby where you check in. Make sure you let them see you dump towels or they will question if more than 1.

The food is not good, every restaurant we tried across the street was far superior and worth the short walk.

Outside of front desk and a few restaurant staff, don’t expect anyone to be able to understand English. It’s an American themed resort and they pipe American music throughout all day long but majority of staff we encountered can’t understand English. First resort in a Spanish speaking country where I’ve had so few English speaking staff. I need to work on my Spanish.

If you like coarse TP that feels like sandpaper, this is the place to do your business.

Get a Jr suite studio and they supply 1 washcloth and 1 hand towel and 2 towels. Asked a couple of times for an extra washcloth before having to just snag one off a maid’s cart so we could each have our own washcloth.

Worst Margarita I’ve ever had is at this Margaritaville. Every restaurant across the street has way better Margaritas.

Broken ice machines.

The beach is public and crowded.

Positives: If my kids were there and 10, they would have loved the pool. The employees were friendly outside of a couple of front desk staff (towel manager and hotel manager). They do clean the rooms daily. Beds were comfy.

My family of 4 (kids age 8 and 10) spent 3 nights here. We had the family suite with double bunk beds which our kids LOVED. Our room was in the lower level so was dark and parking lot outside our window. It was fine since we’d rather have the space over a good view with our family. The shower had low water pressure and the bottom of the shower floor was oddly swishy and soft that felt like had to take a quick shower. The room was clean enough but the bathroom has some grime, stains on the walls and wear and tear in fixtures from being in a humid coast setting. Cleaning service only changed the towels. There was still sand on the floor, beds not made and dirty dishes left in our room after cleaning.

Our kids LOVED the pool and joining pool volleyball with other guests. Many tiles were broken off and pool could use a refresh. Access to the beach across the street is what drew us to this resort. It was a short beach but nicely walkable. Waves were a bit strong while we wet there so tried boogie boarding for a bit (got from the resort). Our kids really enjoyed the game too. And movie theater and we’re up there every day multiple times. The spa was nice and Lady gave an excellent massage and facial.

The food was fine but lacked diversity from more than 3 days. We found the buffet the best food. A raccoon frequented the bar and employees didn’t seem to care to keep him out from begging for food.

Staff was friendly and helpful. The resort helped arrange rides to tours we booked and the airport - the rides got us there but fast driving on windy roads and made us all sick. We’ve been on Costa Rica windy roads with other drivers who took much slower to avoid car sickness.

Overall, we had a nice time but couldn’t have imagine staying longer than 3 days.

I was not happy with the accommodations at all. The bedding was dingy, the shower and toilet areas were cracked and unattractive, and we all had bug bites that happened overnight in the room. Our toilet made crying noises every 30 seconds or so, as if there was a cat buried somewhere in the bathroom. Margaritaville had a plumbing issue on our 3rd day and shut the water off in the morning without coming around with bottled water or making an announcement to alert everyone. Luckily we had extra water and called for more to flush the toilets. There were 3 of us and we always had to ask for more wash clothes and towels. We had two rooms and the other room had bugs in the bathroom and the water pressure was awful. I would only recommend Margaritaville if you’re on a budget and you ask for everything you need up front. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed and we arrived so late that we did not ask for any additional washcloths or check the rooms for adequate accommodations. The service was excellent. Whenever we called for assistance or additional items, we received them immediately. The employees of margaritaville were exceptional.

Me and my family (kids 5, 8, and 10) stayed in Costa Rica for a little over a week. Our first resort more island was incredible. We then visited this resort for 4 nights, and we were pretty disappointed with our stay. The resort seemed dated, although the room was spacious, freshly painted and appeared newly decorated. The first afternoon we got there, the toilet kept clogging. A repair man came once and "fixed" it, but then it just clogged again. After the second time they came to look at it, it seemed to be repaired. We also found that the AC was erratic; one bedroom was crazy hot and the living room area was freezing.

This all inclusive resort clearly needs to take better care of their staff, because they all seemed miserable. Not friendly, not helpful and overworked. The morning of our first breakfast, we were told they didn't have room for us and to try upstairs. When we went upstairs, we were admonished for being up there because it wasn't open. When we came back down, we felt like we were bothering them! One night, we ate at the Italian restaurant, and there was ONE server tending to all of the guests. He was working his butt off, but no one can keep up with that many tables alone! It felt like the staff was just trying to survive. Please take better care of them!

We did book this trip through a travel agent, and we complained to our travel agency after a couple of nights there. We mentioned how awful the food was (you could get the same quality at a school cafeteria), as well. And I will say - once we complained, they definitely tried to kick it up a notch. The rep at guest service sent us wine and treats, and setup a private dinner for us. The chef greeted us personally and designed a menu based on our preferences. The food was better that evening; not amazing, but better. The staff overall seemed more friendly and attentive at that point, as well. Seems like you just have to complain to get decent service?

Overall, being a guest at this resort felt like being on a conveyor belt; they're just churning out the bare minimum to get as many people in and out as they can. The location was nice; just walk across the street to get to the beach, and some spots to walk to nearby. We have stayed at several all inclusives in the past, and for the cost, this one just seems like it should be much better.

I loved the location of Margaritaville but it definitely needs renovations. It was so nice to be right across from the beach but the waves were too wicked for me. The water in our stand up shower took hours to drain and the one day it actually took until the next morning. The pool needs to be drained and a ton of tiles replaced and a good cleaning. The food was very expensive for what it was. We were a family of 9 and my grandkids always wanted food during the day which till fees and taxes were added cost my daughters way too much for things like chicken fingers and fries (over $20 per serving)! The waitress at 5:00 Somewhere was very nice and gave us good service. We did a Sunset Snorkeling Tour with Major Tours and Minor Gonzales took care of meeting us. We didn’t see many fish but the scenery itself was beautiful and the food they served was delicious. It said snacks but it was a full meal with fish skewers that were really tasty along with pasta and veggies. This was one of the highlights to our whole trip to Costa Rica!

**Review of 30 Safari**

We recently stayed at margaritaville as a family and, unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The rooms were very average, with several items not functioning properly, including the safe. When we asked to switch rooms due to an unsatisfactory view, we were initially told there would be a $20 charge per night for an upgrade. However, after speaking with the manager the next day, we were offered a better room for free, which was a small relief considering the high price we had already paid.

While the staff was friendly, there was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm in their service. They often seemed bored and indifferent to our presence, which was quite disheartening. The restaurants were another letdown. Having traveled extensively, I can say that while Costa Rica is beautiful, this place did not meet expectations. The restaurant staff was not welcoming, and the food options were disappointing. On one occasion, we ordered dinner and waited an hour only to find out that our order had been forgotten!

Additionally, there were often no towels available in the morning, and the beach area was shared with the public, which detracted from the overall experience. Overall, I would rate this as a two-star place. I recommend looking elsewhere for a more enjoyable stay in Costa Rica.

This was our 3rd stay at Margaritaville. Although our first stay was when it was called Flamingo Beach Resort (before Jimmy Buffet took it over in 2018). The entire hotel was refreshed after the takeover. Rooms are decorated in a lovely beach theme and are spacious, clean, and surprisingly quiet. However, bathrooms are starting to show their age.

We did the all-inclusive the first and last stay and would not choose this option again. On our first two visits the meals were served Ă  la carte and the menu was varied and delicious. On our most recent visit the food was served buffet style with lots of choices but designed not to offend anyone. You could also order from the menu, but choices were limited and not very interesting. The meals on our first two visits were amazing. Post pandemic changes - not sure.

We spent most mornings poolside after breakfast. I agree with others that there are not enough chairs and shade umbrellas for guests. Folks would come out in the early morning hours to claim their space by laying towels across loungers.

We went with TUI and yes, you are taken to and from the hotel. It’s about an hours drive but you do get to see some of the area. We really enjoyed the Margaritaville ( our second after the Bahamas) and we really enjoy them. We loved Costa Rica, so much to do and see.
