RIO PERDIDO is in Guanacaste, 60 minutes southeast of Liberia's international airport, near the base of the Miravalles Volcano. My girlfriend and I went to spend a weekend at Hotel Rio Perdido recently and we were both so impressed with LITERALLY EVERYTHING WITH THIS HOTEL!! To start with, the whole entire staff were truly top notch, extremely nice and helpful and made us feel right at home 100% of the time (special mention to Jonathon who checked us in and our waiters Kendall and Ronald just to name a few were all exceptionally professional and outgoing and made our stay really great!) The property is amazing, with the beautiful river perfect for relaxing and lush green trees all around and wildlife abundance. Hiking and biking paths are unbelievable and the immense waterfall is truly a sight. We could not stop taking photos of the food as it was always amazing, breakfast, lunch, and dinner were outstanding! Hats off to the chefs on all of the meals !! Our cozy bungalo, nestled between the trees had the most comfortable bed ever and you could hear the river down below. We really enjoyed the stay and would 100% reccomend to anyone, once again the place is amazing in itself, but the staff that run this place are what make it even more special! Top Top Guys! thank you.....We had an unforgettable weekend and look forward to returning sometime soon!

Hotel's Favorite
There are many fine hotels, resorts, and lodges in Costa Rica. But there's nothing like Rio Perdido. To start, while there are places with hot springs on site, this place tops that with a thermal RIVER set in a hidden ravine. Rio Perdido adds to that stunning, remote, natural setting with a sublime blend of modern luxury and nature. The main restaurant area is completely open air (so much so that monkeys occasionally go through the restaurant as a shortcut to their favorite flowering trees). The service is excellent, and the food is very good (though a few more light options for lunch may not be a bad idea). And of course the views from breakfast or lunch are just spectacular. We've stayed in both the east and center bungalows. You can't go wrong with either--we prefer the larger, more luxe center bungalows, but there's definitely an argument to be made for the east bungalows, which are brighter inside and more reasonably priced (and closer to the river). All in all, Rio Perdido was one of our favorite places ever, and it's found a way to get even better.

Hello Ryan. Thanks for posting this review. We totally (and humbly) agree with your opening sentences; this place is UNIQUE. A lot of people toss that word around, to the extent that it loses its meaning. But the distinctiveness of this setting is the reason why we decided to put our energy and resources into making available as a destination for a select group of conscious travelers that would truly appreciate the setting, as we do. Ryan, we will actually add new menu options as daily specials. Most of these will indeed, be light fare; ideal for active visitors, wellness buffs, and simply, those that are looking for more delicious options with local roots. Have a great weekend. Gabriel

I am a Costa Rican picky well traveled 51 international business man who usually prefers to travel outside of my country, however, the pandemic restrictions made me asses options to travel with my family and a friend of mine told me about Rio Perdido Hotel. We liked what we saw at the Instagram pics my friend showed me, but when we got there in person, we really felt in love with this magical huge beautiful paradise. Me, my wife and kids were totally transported into a different dimension. We were treated really nicely. They all were very kind, helpful, respectful, friendly and yet professional. This is really a huge thing to say, because usually in Costa Rica, locals are not as nice with other locals. (sometimes they prefer the visitors who come from other countries perhaps with more money to spend, but they were really nice to us. The experience at this hotel and place was something else, it really made feel really proud of Costa Rica and made me change my mind about how beautiful, amazing, relaxing, exciting and exotic Costa Rica can be. the thermal rivers, the tubing fun, lots and lots of special nice unique details in your room, the friendly white face monkeys used to tourists, the trees varieties, the awesome mountain views, the taste of the food, so many outdoor potential activities, the mountain views, the weather, the sunsets, every thing was really special about this place. Great for families, or honey mooners. Really safe place. Felt like a paradise.

We recently went to Rio Perdido for a long weekend trip with the family to recharge batteries with everything going on. It was the first time for us visiting and needless to say it will not be the last. We plan on going again soon. Our family usually goes to beach destinations but we had a blast going to this hotel. First of all the service was great. Everyone was ver kind, had great recommendations for us and made us feel like we were regular visitors. The rooms are separate bungalow style rooms which makes it feel very private and not crowded (very important nowadays). Although you can chill and enjoy the pools with different temperatures or relax in your room, this is definitely a hotel for people looking some adventures and stay active. during our short stay we did zip line tour which is amazing over the river, we hiked, we enjoyed the river, we did yoga by the river and enjoyed the pools. Also wife and I enjoyed some "me time" at the spa which was great. We didn't get to hike through all the trails but plan to do so soon. This hotel is also very famous among people who enjoy mountain bike for having great trails for that. Finally, food was really good even considering that because of the restrictions related to covid, the menu has been "reduced". Even with that, there were options for everyone (my daughter is vegetarian and my wife needs GF food). Hope you find this useful and do not hesitate visiting. If you're driving, I highly recommend using apps such as Waze and you'll have no problem getting there. It's a short drive from SJ, approx 3.5 hrs considering traffic for some work currently being done in the main highway getting to Bagaces.

Rio Perdido was the first stop on our trip. We did ziplining and tubing and it was awesome. Had two boys, 10 and 7 and they loved it. The cabins are great; spacious, the outdoor shower is fun, the dark interior is great for sleep and zen. The wall to wall windows and view of the jungle was pretty sweet. Food is great and the staff was super attentive and seemed to genuinely care - we ate there everyday and always had something good. We hiked around the trails - they are pretty difficult to navigate and the signage isn't that good - although we got turned around we made it back to the hotel. The pools are warm - fed by the thermal springs to they aren't really refreshing - but the boys had a ton of fun. We made sure to not have them play in the pools near the spa so they wouldn't ruin someone's massage. The staff was excellent - the bartenders let the boys go and make their own smoothies and the were always offering water and sunscreen. The ziplining and tubing guides were great - we even bumped into one of the guides a few days later at a waterfall about 2 hours away on his day off! He came over, said hi and chatted with us for a bit about where we were - amazing that he cared that much and wanted to talk. Great to see. Stay here. It's fun.
