Heliconias Nature Lodge is tucked away in a beautiful jungle location and is run by the most accommodating, friendly people. The cabins are private and clean and the grounds are well kept and full of sounds of the jungle. Each cabin has its private balcony that is wonderful to sit and listen to the wildlife. I injured my knee and was catered to by the employees who offered cart service available to everyone who may have a hard time getting around. I was also offered information on where and what to get for my injury. We looked forward to the delicious breakfasts made from local farms.! THANK YOU to Gustavo, Diego and Alesandro. Truly made our visit enjoyable!

Expensive and faulty accommodation which didn’t have hot water and was ignored by the management who neither moved us, offered any discount, or responded to my emails after we left. The front line staff are friendly and the site is nice (although it’s 25 minutes from La Fortuna and there are closer hotels to the area’s activities). But on arrival on the Saturday night there was no hot water in our lodge. We reported it Sunday first thing and it wasn’t fixed until the Monday. Two nights of three with no hot water was bad- particularly since we were doing lots of activities in the day. The management didn’t respond to the staff’s request for any kind of discount, nor did they reply to my email on the same subject. Shoddy.

Beautiful grounds and wonderful staff. About 30 min drive outside of Fortuna but easy to find. Treehouse was fun but Bathrooms definitely dated, old and buggy. Food was hit or miss at the dinner restaurant, but breakfast was great! Pool was pretty and quiet but really cold and not comfortable to swim in during this season. Not much for fun drinks but the wine was good. Overall a quaint little place.

If you are looking to experience authentic Costa Rica, this is the place! Luxury Tree houses or cottages. This is a family owned and ran business that treats you like family. The grounds are immaculate along with pristine gardens, their own dinning hall( amazing food and beverages), nature trail and concierge service. Being in the rainforest allowed us to see wild life in their own habitats. Monkeys, sloths, toucans, frogs and an array of birds. This compound is simply breath taking!

From the beautiful grounds to the gorgeous treehouse accommodations and inviting family atmosphere, HNL was the perfect spot for our 'bucket list' trip to Costa Rica. This family-owned, family operated lodge immediately made us all feel like part of the family. Alejandro, Tavo, Tarzan, Zuma and everyone else we came in contact with were so friendly and inviting. All dietary needs were carefully accommodated. And we even saw a sloth almost immediately upon arrival! The treehouse was unique, clean, and spacious. Communication with staff was easy ond seamless. Golf cart transportation was readily available ( my daughter was on crutches). We definitely hope to return to Costa Rica and will stay here again.

We stayed at Heliconias Nature Lodge for just 2 nights in June 2022 at the start of our 11-day vacation through Costa Rica. We highly recommend Heliconias for the following reasons: - The staff are abundantly friendly and helpful; they truly strive to create an experience that allows you, the guest, to sit back and enjoy. Not just accommodating, but genuinely welcoming and kind. (Special shout outs to our friends Tavo, Diego, and Alejandro!) - Heliconias helped us book two excursions while we stayed with them. They covered transportation and other logistics, which made touring around Arenal a low-stress experience. - The Deluxe Treehouse was truly a unique experience - we loved the room perched high in a mango tree. Great views of the campus and good for bird watching! - The complimentary breakfast was delicious! - Heliconias is a family-fun business which we love to support! Some "cons" to Heliconias (though these aspects did not significantly detract from our stay and we would certainly book another visit at Heliconias given the chance): - The hotel is a bit removed from La Fortuna, so unless you have a car, you're "stuck". - Communications over email leading up to our stay wasn't always clear.

What an incredible experience at Heliconias. This was our first night of our 7 day trip throughout Costa Rica. When you drive in, the lobby/check-in area seeems out of place and isolated, but the check-in process was quick and they will give you a private golf-cart ride throughout their large multiple acre property with nature trails and beautiful scenery. I would recommend booking the glass bungalow which is a wooden bungalow and has all glass windows in the middle of the rainforest, with drapes that you can close for privacy. The room was very clean. There was a balcony with hammocks. You can hear the sounds of the rainforest all around. It was beautiful. the property is quite large, the walk to the pool/breakfast area was about 3 minutes and the walk to the dinner restaurant was about 5 minutes walking through a beautiful and scenic property. They have good wifi we were able to watch netflix on our ipad. The front desk sends you a whatsapp message when checking in and you can communicate with them through whatsaspp and they answer promptly. When we were ready for checkout we messaged them through whatsapp and we had a golf-cart ride back to our car with all our luggage within minutes. The food at the dinner restaurant (I think called Leonardo's) was amazing. I recommend getting the seafood platter. It was so delicious and the most unforgettable meal of our trip. Alejandro was our waiter both for dinner and the next day for breakfast. He was so generous, thoughtful, and when wee said this was our first night in Costa Rica he gave us free shots of Guaro :) This hotel is a hidden gem in arenal, great for the price. It is about 15-20 minute scenic drive to both the arenal volcano, la fortuna waterfall, and mystic hanging bridges. I highly recommend this hidden gem. Tell Alejandro that Adam and Kelci say Hi.

We enjoyed our time at the Heliconias Nature Lodge. Five of us stayed there for a few days to check out the Arnel area. It’s a bit out of town so you will need to rent a car or a book tours to go see things. Alejandro, the owner, was very friendly and attentive. The grounds were beautiful and safe. It is peaceful and there are toms of birds. The breakfast/restaurant is decent but we found better things to eat in La Fortuna. The treehouses were nice, nothing fancy but clean. The beds were a bit hard. We enjoyed the pool a lot!

Amazing Family Run Business We had the pleasure of staying here 3 nights. Service was terrific. Everyone we met went out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. Whether it be Oscar at the front desk checking us in and making reservations for us or Alejandro who served us breakfast and dinner. Food was amazing. Breakfast is included and consists of FRESH fruit, and 4 items to choose from. We recommend the Costa Rica Breakfast. Dinner- we ate ate Leonardo’s which is on the property. Wide selection of food. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Rooms were clean. Beds very comfortable. Room was tidied up each day. Please sit outside at night and enjoy the wonderful sounds of nature. Our family would highly recommend staying here. 3 nights was perfect. About a 30-45 min drive to attractions near La Fortuna.

Heliconias Nature Lodge is a hidden gem located between La Fortuna and The Arenal area. This is another lodge where I wished I had booked a longer stay. It’s one of those rare places where you immediately feel like you can take a deep breath and be at peace. As we approached the lodge from La Fortuna I was initially concerned that it might be noisy and too close to the road but that was before I realized how large the property is. There are several beautiful acres surrounding the bungalows and noise is definitely not an issue unless you dislike birdsong. Check-in takes place at an open reception area and there is adjacent parking where you can leave your vehicle for your entire stay if desired. Tavo was working the reception area and he was so friendly and service-oriented that we immediately felt relaxed and comfortable. He loaded our bags on a golf cart to go to our deluxe bungalow, La Lapa. On our way he stopped so we could watch the toucans cavorting in the trees. Off to a wonderful start! Our bungalow was roomy with a small table, fridge and great AC. A huge shower with a rainfall shower head and plenty of hot water was a welcome treat each day. The backside of the room was all glass looking into trees where a covered deck with a hammock provided a shady place to read. There was a TV but we never turned it on…the best entertainment was the lush landscape full of wildlife and gorgeous flowers. The trails around the bungalows and to the restaurants and pools are paved and offer a great place to have a brisk walk…if you can tear your eyes away from the scenery. There are also hiking trails into the forest and across bridges where more birds can be seen but we really enjoyed the birdwatching most from the paved walkways, Our bungalow was a short distance from the open air breakfast pavilion, El Toucan, and the pools ( more birds!). Breakfast is included and offers juice and fruit plus some hot items ordered from your table such as eggs and pancakes. You will no doubt meet the delightful Alejandro while you dine, either at breakfast or dinner. I don’t know that I have ever met a friendlier, nicer human being. He is all smiles and infectious laughter and nothing is too much trouble. Lunch and dinner are served in a different open-air restaurant near the entrance of the lodge. Typical Costa Rican dishes are served as well as Italian entrees. We only ate the Costa Rican cuisine but it was quite tasty and the service was good. There is a soccer field on the grounds if you need to burn off some extra energy. We also experienced no problems with insects or mosquitoes. The temperature was suitable for shorts during the day but pants and long-sleeved shirts felt great at night. A variety of tours can be arranged at the reception area where customer service is key. Same day laundry service is available at a very reasonable rate for a small bag (bag is located on the shelf in your bungalow). One small negative: there is not a closet or hangers but we are light packers so that was not an issue. We arrived with grand plans to go on tours and drive to different attractions; within an hour of our arrival, we decided we were already in the perfect place and needed to go nowhere else during our stay. It was a decision we do not regret. The website does not do this place justice. Heliconias provided the nature we wanted and the serenity we craved.
