Family, Great View
NUMBER OF ROOMS
We stayed one night here and one at the hot springs. I wished we had spent longer at the hot springs. I chose this hotel since it was closer to the rain forest. The glass bungalow we rented was on ground level and didn't feel nearly as special as I had hoped. We did a night tour at this hotel. We saw a lot of frogs and an armadillo. It was interesting, but it was not worth the price, but since we had not been here before I'm glad we did it. It took about 1.5 hours. The service in the restaurant, lobby, and on the night tour was great!
We loved this place, it was our home base for 6 days... It is family owned and they claim you as friends as soon as you arrive. We stayed in a glass bungalow and it was great! Everything we ate here was very good. Give the sugarcane moonshine a try! We took the chocolate tour and the night walk tour and we loved both of them. Ask Oscar if there are any sloths around, he took us right to one and we got to see it through a scope and got a great picture! I did an evening massage under the pavilion. It wasn’t the best massage I’ve ever had, but it might have been the most relaxing I’ve ever had...cool breeze, rain, critters chirping...it was like a meditation CD was being played only it was REAL. We spent our days exploring Arenal and Fortuna and this was the perfect place to come back and relax at after a day of adventure. Most of the popular must sees are about an hour to get to but there is so much to see along the way the drive was nothing. You won’t be disappointed...Omar, Brandon, Alejandro...and everyone else we encountered were the best! …
The staff was amazing! They were friendly and helpful with all aspects of our stay in the area. The grounds were flawlessly maintained and the structures were well appointed. We also loved the warm pool!
We stayed at the Heliconias Nature Lodge for several days before and including Christmas and loved everything about it. We are a family of 5 with 3 daughters ages 17, 21 and 25. We reserved a Deluxe Bungalow (which has 2 Queen beds) and Diego arranged to have a single bed brought in so everyone could sleep in a bed. It was perfect -- cozy but we enjoyed being together in the room. The balcony with table, chairs and hammocks provided additional space for us to relax. The bathroom was large and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. We had complete privacy and did not hear or see anyone in the other bungalows, even though some were steps away. The landscaping and foliage was beautiful and lush. We met Omar, the owner and patriarch, who was often sitting and working in the restaurant. Alejandro and Jose in the restaurant were amazing and treated us like family. The food was traditional Costa Rican fare, which we loved - plantains cooked perfectly and the arros (rice and beans) a nice complement to every meal. The tilapia (fish) was delicious -- and raised in one of the ponds on their property! We tried some of the special sugar cane "moonshine" and found it quite tasty. The pina (pineapple smoothie with milk) was great too. Breakfast was provided each morning -- cooked to order with fresh fruit, juices and coffee. We did excursions each day, which required driving to La Fortuna (25 minutes) or Arenal (40 minutes), but we knew that going in. We walked around La Fortuna, thinking we would eat dinner at one those restaurants but we found we much preferred Heliconias for the friendly service and good food. One morning we woke up to a flat tire on our rental car, and Diego quickly arranged for a driver to take us to La Fortuna for our excursion and had the flat tire fixed by the time we returned that evening. We truly felt like family. The pool was nice - we enjoyed the heated side in the evening, but it was nice to have the option to cool off on the other side. Jose was quick to walk up to the pool from the restaurant and offer us towels or something to drink or eat. We did the night hike our first evening -- we arrived too late to do the coffee or chocolate tours, which we heard were great -- and enjoyed learning about the Costa Rican flora and wildlife and saw the famous red eyed frog, blue jeans frog and a few other nighttime creatures. Overall, we were very happy we stayed at Heliconias and not in La Fortuna. We highly recommend Heliconias Nature Lodge!…
My wife and I stayed at the Helcionia's tree house end of Nov 2019. They weather was ok . We were well taken care off by the owners such lovely family business and one of the best services we have received till date. We had nothing to worry about, they were always available for us throughout and flexible according to your requirements. They always were welcoming and had a smile on their face which made us more comfortable. The place is away from most of the activities but if you are looking for a treehouse experience in the middle of a 20 acres plot this is the place to be. It very safe and ideal place for Families, friends and couples.
