Once you eventually find grandpas it is superbly placed for visiting Irazu volcano. Probably the closest decent accommodation. Irazu is about half an hour away on the same road and should be visited early to avoid clouds and crowds. The cabins are private, spacious and comfortable and really give you the outback feeling. Breakfast is good and early, to get...

Do you want to stay in a hotel where you are greeted with smiles and treated like family? Grandpas Hotel is the place. It is operated by Gustavo Fernandez. The main building was the home of his grandparents. The hacienda now houses the hotel lobby, dining area, porch and 2 large suites. Farmland surrounds the hotel. His father still cultivates...

This hotel was a fabulous home base for day trips for our families. It has a great location on the side of the Irazu Volcano outside of Cartago. We stayed in 2 cabins and were very comfortable. The staff was exceptional. We had a real feel for Costa Rican hospitality and loved our morning breakfasts from the hacienda. The hotel...

If you are looking for a quiet, out of the way place, surrounded by nature, Grandpa's is the place for you. Set on a hill off the main road within a short ride to the center of Cartago, you will be amazed at the beauty of the gardens. We had a large suite that was clean, had a lovely fireplace,...

Cute, clean & cozy little log cabins to stay in. The waitstaff was so accommodating and willing to help you plan out things to do on your trip. Great breakfast and delicious coffee in the morning. Great experience, would recommend to anyone!

It was clean. Parking tight. Bars on the windows. Better than most. They seem to try hard to please. Most will find the accommodations good. Breakfast was pretty good too. Price was fair. Had car alarms going off several times during the night which made one worry.

Stayed here early January and was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the cabin and the grounds overall. Comfortable bed, good amenities, and overall friendly service. We did notice some hesitance and uncertainty as we were a gay couple sharing a room; however, it didn't seem to interfere too much with the service. Would definitely recommend.

We spent one night here, as it is on the way for on early morning trek to Irazu National Park. The cabinas and comfy and cozy! Very clean spaces that stayed nice and toasty throughout the night. The grounds are lovely and you get a fabulous view of the sunset above the clouds. They serve a great breakfast in the...

We stayed here as we wanted to be close to Irazu NP. We had a cabin, which was alright, but with two drawbacks: at night, it became rather cold, and you hear a lot of noise from the street nearby as well as raindrops on the roof. Breakfast (we had cold only included, warm would have been an extra we...

“The room off the back side of the breakfast room is huge, with two comfy double beds, plus a good size bathroom. There are two recliners and a "bench" covered in carpet along two walls, which makes the room a great party room for a bigger group. The only downside is there is not a mini-fridge in the room to store beverages for the party. On the upside, the kitchen crew let us store beers in the fridge in the kitchen :)”

“If you can, stay in a cabin rather than the main building. Quieter and will eliminate the fire hazard issue.”
