This was the first place we stayed on our trip to Costa Rica. We loved it!! It's funky, artistic and has beautiful flowers everywhere. There were donkeys, dogs and chickens, dairy cows, a stable with a calf. The atmosphere was conducive to mingling with other guests. We met some great people from Austria, Michel & Helena and we celebrated Helena's... More

A tour guide, familiar with many hotels in this area, heartily recommended Altura. We were absolutely enchanted! It began with very helpful staff, speaking fluent English since Spanish is not one of our languages. The property is in a beautiful location, with incredible views, night or day, of the central valley, miles away and thousands of feet lower. We had... More

We enjoyed our stay in this nice and spacious room, which can even be heated. The breakfast is very good, however the breakfast room is rather cold. There is an excellent view into the valley (San José) and to the mountains in the South. Volcano Poas is rather close to the hotel.

Being one of the closest hotels to the National park, it allows you to get to the park early in the morning before the clouds (and the crowds!) arrive. Great rooms (complete with a heater, which, believe it or not, you will appreciate!). Nice breakfast in the company of hummingbirds and very nice panoramic terrace.

Pros - Perfect location to Poas Volcano. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was delicious. Con - The entrance to the hotel was not marked very well. There was a bumpy, winding road to get the the hotel.

Out of the 8 places we stayed in Costa Rica on our 12 day trip, this was the best! The rooms were stunning and spacious! There are not many rooms and that's what makes this hotel unique. They cater to the guests. Breakfast was fantastic! This hotel is on a ranch, so be prepared to see donkeys upon arrival! I... More

Sometimes when I write reviews I feel a bit lost for words. That is particularly true when my opinion is very, very positive about the place I am trying to review. This time I really feel like that a lot: this place is simply superb! Great service started way before we arrived. A few days before I called in to... More

My husband and I spent a couple nights at this cute little place so we could visit the Poas Volcano National Park. We had the most amazing view from our suite, the room was a stand alone building and breakfast was part of our room rate. No complaints!

Lovely studio, beautifully decorated with 12 foot high ceilings and big picture windows in all sides. Scenic views from high a top a mountain (5,000 ft) overlooking the water and the night lights of San Jose and Aljuela. Nice commons areas to congregate and meet other guests. Great hospitality from the host. 5 minutes to the volcano and close by... More
