Leaves and Lizards was the best place we stayed in Costa Rica, we thought slightly better than even Nayara because its quirkiness and charm. Yes, the road getting to them is an adventure and you definitely need a 4x4 car to enjoy L&L but we loved it. Debbie and Steve are incredible hosts. When we first arrived they gave us...

Leaves and Lizards is a very beautiful, peaceful place. The views of the volcano were incredible. My profile pic is taken from the door of the heliconia house where we stayed. I did wish some of the cabins up the road would have been available because the house was at the bottom of the driveway and did have cars and...

What a great place. The horseback riding was the highlight - their horses are wonderful - I'm not an experienced rider but the horses were so well behaved and did what you asked that it made the ride much more fun. The kids loved the swim in the private waterfall and the wildlife viewing during the ride. My daughter helped...

Positives: The cabins are awesome. Period. We stayed in the Toucan cabin and loved it. The wraparound porch with hammocks and a view of the volcano is awesome. The breakfast each morning was also very, very good and we looked forward to it each day. Additionally, we took the horseback riding tour to a private waterfall that is offered at...

We spent 5 days at Leaves and Lizards with our 2 kids (7 and 10). The kids loved milking the cow and collecting eggs in the morning. They were warmly welcomed each morning by Carlos and they looked forward to seeing him each morning. We stayed in the Monkey cabin which had an amazing view of the volcano (I heard...

My girlfriends and I stayed at Leaves and Lizards for 5 nights on our stay in La Fortuna. This place is absolutely amazing!! The view from the cabins is breathtaking, with a large picture window encompassing one whole wall facing the Arenal volcano. Steve and Debbie make you feel at home, and will help you make any arrangements you need...

After deciding on a Costa Rican honeymoon and doing our research on where to stay, we finally settled on Leaves and Lizards and what a great choice it was – I honestly do not think we could have stayed anywhere that we would have liked better. What a wonderful place Debbie and Steve have! We took advantage of the 6...

After a reasonably easy drive up from San Jose (about 4 hours, depending on whether your satnav works or wants to take you on detours!!), we arrived at Leaves and Lizards. The hill up to the main reception was a bit scary (steep and rough) but it was well worth it, because behind it was a peaceful haven where we...

We absolutely loved this place. We stayed in the Volcano cabin and the shower in the cabin would have been enough reason to have stayed at the retreat, ha. It's about the same size of the bedroom, which is a good thing. The entire cabin was incredibly private and romantic. Would have stayed there if it had been our honeymoon....

I stayed at Leaves and Lizards for a first time vacation to Costa Rica. What a great experience! Driving in from San Jose, I didn't know what to expect when we finally got there. I was in for a great surprise!!! Debbie and Steve do everything they can to show off their magnificent attraction.....Arenal Volcano! The resort is designed so...
