    Great staff, good location
Great little hotel. Good breakfast, superb coffee. Excellent showers Very clean Louis was an excellent host, very helpful with lots of solid local tips and advice. A credit to the hotel. A 5/10 minute stroll into town. Very safe location WiFi is a little slow with connection issues in some rooms.

Comfortable hotel, easy walk into town
We (family with triplets aged 10) spent two nights at the Arenal Montechiari. The little lodges are a decent size with refrigerators and comfortable beds. There are bed side lamps in the rooms now so those concerned about the strip lighting comments needn’t worry! The gardens are beautifully planted with lots of colourful flowers; it’s a lovely place to hang out. Others had mentioned that the pool isn’t heated but it was warm enough for that not to matter. Our daughters spent hours in there. The restaurant only serves breakfast. It was the standard fayre with lots of fresh fruit, fresh eggs, rice/beans mix, etc. It’s an easy ten minute walk into town for lunch/dinner where there are lots of options. We had a good meal at La Fonda 506. There’s a lot to do the the area. Cannot recommend Ecoglide zip wiring highly enough (see separate review). It was epic!!!! Also enjoyed our walk up the volcano and an evening at the hot springs.
Thank you very much for your nice comments, we are waiting for you in your next visit to Costa Rica. Pure Life

Beautiful and unique stay with Volcano on sight
We had a beautiful stay here during our recent Costa Rica visit. The property is well maintained with a rustic design. The room that was given to us at first had a odd odor maybe due to the heavy downpour. We tried to ignore it at first by keeping the door open thinking it will pass. But when it didn’t we went to the office and they promptly shift us to another room on the other side. You can see the volcano from the property. The morning walks are beautiful with an opportunity to see so many birds large and small. Wifi only available in the office area and the dining area. We didn’t mind that since it was time to take a break from the smart gadgets. Only criticism would be the breakfast which was basic and blend. We found bugs cooked inside our pancakes. But the La Fortuna downtown only ten min walk with plenty of food options and stores. There was couple of convenient stores five min away as well from where we got our daily water bottle. Overall, very nice place with friendly and helpful stuff. The house keeping made cute animals with the towels and put fresh flowers. Please tip them generously.

A pleasant two night stay as part of an Exodus trip. Basic rooms in a lovely setting with views of the volcano. A quiet area a short walk from the town. Simple Costa Rican breakfast with good coffee. No wifi in the rooms, but at reception and breakfast area. It’s not a problem to disconnect from the world for a while!

Clean simple cabins with all the necessities plus AC! Breakfast was delicious and there’s a mini market as well as plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. I stayed two nights and it poured rain the first night. Though I couldn’t see the volcano from the hotel, the views and the grounds were still absolutely beautiful!

All I can say is this is all about the exterior and very much sheer ignorance on the interior. Awful cabins. Extremely basic although air con is available. The bathroom door doesn't close properly and the 'windows' in there are plastic slats that don't close so you need to keep the bathroom door closed to stop the creepy crawlies from getting in. The beds are like rocks and you can hear everything in the huts next door and beyond. Didn't try the pool here as didn't get the chance. On arrival I was given a key and when I opened the door the room hadn't been made up. The bed was unmade and there were plates of food everywhere. I was then allocated a different room and thankfully it was ready but awful. The lighting is so poor you can't see to do anything. To plug in the fridge you have to pull it out of its cubby hole completely to get the plug into the socket and then it makes so much racket you have to do the same to unplug it for the night or you'll never sleep. There is no wifi in the rooms only in reception which was very annoying. Breakfast was seriously lacking to the point I didn't even bother one morning. For the prices they charge this place was shockingly bad. It does seem that Costa Rica just has awful accommodation full stop. Also you have to fill your own bottle with water from the tap outside reception and it's not that cold. It's around a half mile walk into town too with two supermarkets on the other side of the road that are a little closer.

Stayed here two nights on an Exodus trip. The hotel is close to the centre of town (easily walkable to bars and restaurants) but in a quiet area. Staff were lovely and the cleaner folds your towel into creative shapes (see photo) The rooms are clean but very basic, there’s no Wi-Fi unless you’re sitting in reception and no bar at the hotel (but lots within 10 mins walk). Each room is in an individual cabin with a verandah, set around beautiful tropical gardens filled with exotic flowers and colourful birds. There’s a small unheated pool. Each morning there is bird feeding at breakfast so it’s a paradise for birders. Breakfast is good. I wouldn’t want to spend more than two nights here as the room interior is wood panelled and dark (there are large windows but they give no privacy so your choice is to keep curtains drawn or sit in a goldfish bowl) and the plumbing a little temperamental, but for a couple of nights on a tour it was a good choice. There is aircon but I didn’t need to use it.

Located just outside the town of La Fortuna, easily walkable in about 10 mins along one straight road. The complex is quite small with only a few lodges and even though they were not attached the noise easily carried from one to the other. There is air con but ours wasn't very good. The breakfast was basic but OK. Only saw a couple of staff members as only stayed 2 nights so can't really comment in the service. The pool isn't very big and not alot of seating area around it but we was there for the tours so didn't use it. Overall a fairly nice place with no complaints just a bit basic

Although the accomodation is nice, we had a bad experience that overrules al the other experiences : things were stolen, and the management seems to accept it ("it is your responsability"), reaction of the management was not professional.

A beautiful setting and the fronts of the cabins are lovely. There is air con and breakfast and the breakfast staff were good. However, rooms are basic and dark. There was no housekeeping unless requested. Hot water is poor and you have to wait a considerable time for it. Wardrobe is in the toilet which is very strange.

My status hotel was at the beginning of the slow season so it was very quiet for myself and my husband. The grounds are beautiful but small, they are very lush and you have a direct view of the volcano. On our property with sloths and as this was my first day in Costa Rica all the birds were new. If you get up early in the morning and walk around the ground slowly and stand in one spot you see many many types of birds. It’s close to the little town of Law for tuna, a little touristy spot with lots of restaurants and souvenir shops and a main town garden that’s a very nice place to sit. Overall it was exactly what my husband and I wanted I can understand how others might not think as we do especially if the hotel was very busy when they stayed there. Each cabin is its own little bungalow and while the air conditioner keeps it cool I can see how it would let lots of sound in so if you have noisy neighbors I could see how it could be unpleasant. That said, we had a wonderful time during our stay here and would visit again this time of year during the slow season.
