Nice hotel conveniently located between downtown La Fortuna tourist hot spots with a great view of Arenal Volcano. Place was clean, had plenty of parking on site and nice hot springs. Food in particular was great; nice buffet range and great options for lunch and dinner (we only had the latter). Food was very tasty and decent portion size too. Special thanks to Manrique at the front desk. Manrique went out of his way to make our stay at Volcano Lodge a pleasant experience. He was always available to answer questions and make some great recommendations. Cannot thank him enough for helping us arrange our rafting tour which was the highlight for us at La Fortuna, and also for his great advice and recommendations for our next stop, Monteverde. We could not be more grateful to Manrique; muchas Gracias amigo! Pura Vida!…
Agree with other reviewers that rooms/bathrooms were spartan (by the way you have to put toilet paper in the trash rather than flushing) with thin walls. Sorry to continue discussing bathroom topics but I could literally hear the people in the next room flushing their toilet. :( Rooms were a little damp, they don't run the AC to get it ready for you. Grounds were nicely landscaped and maintained. View of volcano was stunning. Breakfast was ok, kids liked the buffet, omelets were excellent. Dinner was just ok. Service in the restaurant wasn't super friendly. In the morning it was a huge effort to get the water who had the coffee to come over, and basically forget getting him to come more than once or max, twice. He didn't seem too happy in general. Similarly, in the front lobby they had both coffee and water but they ran out really quickly and didn't usually refill the urns. (Front desk people were really nice and would take my water bottle and fill it up with water for me instead.) Book a room with a thermal pool if possible- like your own personal hot tub outdoors, heated by the volcano. Wifi worked ok in the rooms, very well at the pool Excursions were all great- volcano hike, zip lining, waterfall, white water rafting. The hotel will set them up for you-- book at least a week or two in advance! *Also, they don't really advertise this but they do have room service.…
Unfortunately they copied my credit card details at this hotel and made purchases a week after visiting. The only place I handed in my credit card for the last few days was at the Volcano Logdge hotel. Do not give your card to any hotel employee, ask for the dataphone and do not give your data
After a difficult arrival in the dark from Liberia ( our flight to San Jose was diverted to Liberia then cancelled back to San Jose) arrived the lodge in the dark after a hair raising drive in the night without GPS or a map, we checked in about 9PM on April 13th. Our first experience was a wonderful dinner. The next 2 days we did a tubing trip through Montana Tours, the two guides Antonio & Jr. were fun, funny and realy helped my wife when she needed it (water level was low) when she got hung up. The hotels grounds are a wonder. The food (breakfast inlcuded) included the very best shrimp taco I've ever had and the fruit was amazing. NOTE: if you drive from San Jose or Liberia be prepared. The roads are the curviest I've ever driven, and I suggest to do it in the daylight, really no better but you can at least see what's coming at you. I highly recommend this hotel.…
The room was nice but the room had a bad order to it. The room was not serviced so we had no clean towels and the trash can where we put the TP was not cleaned out. The hot spas was good The meals were good.
The room was standard, but nothing to complain about. A nice rear patio and view. The spring pools, hot tubs, and swimming pools were fantastic. Nice restaurant. The grounds between rooms and facilities were very well kept.
Amazing hotel! As soon as you arrive you are made to feel so welcome and the staff can’t do enough for you. They recommended I go on the Bogarin Trail which was a nice way to see more of the wildlife. The gardens are like paradise and being able to see the Arenal Volcano from my porch was incredible. Thank you again for making my trip so special and I will be back again in the future :) Kate
We spent 3 nights in Volcano Lodge Hotel and Thermal Experience. The check-in process was done efficiently and professionally. We were thrilled to discover we had been upgraded to a room with a spa! Our private mineral bath hot tub was outside our room and had a waterfall. We used it every evening and thoroughly enjoyed its healing waters. The bed is large and comfortable. The bathroom is nice and functional. The linens are good and pool towels are provided. The room has a luggage rack, 2 chairs with a small table, and a desk with a chair. Outside in our private area were 2 reclining lounge chairs and 2 chairs. We were very spoiled! Our room included a shelved closet and mini fridge. Our only complaint were the walls being very thin. We could hear our neighbors quite clearly, and had to wait for them to quiet before being able to sleep. We walked the entire grounds, which is beautifully gardened. There are multiple mineral spring hot tubs throughout the resort, one with a swim-up bar located near the sauna. There is also a day-spa that we did not use. We discovered an outdoor exercise area, and stumbled upon a pond with nearly a dozen large geese. Breakfast was a buffet with typical Costa Rican fare (rice and beans, pancakes, plantains and potatoes, and scrambled eggs). The restaurant is an open area to the pool and mineral springs, with a fantastic view of Volcan Arenal. Lunch and Dinner meals were very delicious and enjoyed. We also appreciated the security gate at the entrance and use of a parking pass. Also notable was the security force who walked the grounds day and night.…
If you spend most of your time outside the room, you’re all set. Setting of the pool and resto were beautiful with great views of the volcano. Thermal waters were excellent. Hôtel well located. Rooms are 3 star at best. Old interior, no real view of volcano.
We have had a wonderful stay in Volcano Lodge. Having the hot springs in the hotel itself is just amazing! The restaurant is fantastic and has great vegetarian options. Manrique who was at the reception was so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
