We had a great stay at Hotel Pacande for our first and last night in Costa Rica. It's just a 10 minute taxi ride from San Jose International airport so much more convenient than staying in San Jose itself. It's a good value, basic, small and quiet hotel and it's not far from the bus station that can take you... More

We stayed a few days at Hotel Pacande after our flight from Mexico. This hotel is a little peace of sunshine in a neighborhood that is very poor. Our room was clean with a great shower and we only paid 50$ each night. There is a kitchen and a cute little garden too. The owners are extremely sweet and helpful...... More

Pros: 1. No funky smells, very clean 2. Nice staff 3. Online reservations worked 4. Nice courtyard for eating 5. Convenient location Cons: 1. Stuffy 1st floor room - it may be uncommon to have outside-facing windows in alajuela because the hotels all seem to be long skinny buildings attached to other buildings. Ours had a window onto the hallway.... More

We arrived at midnight and they were able to let us in. We were able to handle all things financially in the morning so that was refreshing. The woman who let us in was super nice and we were able to pectin our Spanish since she didn't know English. The room was just want we needed (clean and cozy) and... More

I've now stayed in this hotel on 5 different occasions, sometimes in the cheaper rooms with shared bathrooms, sometimes in the sightly pricier rooms with private bathrooms. Each time I felt so welcomed by the lovely family that run this place. It's safe, clean and has such a friendly atmosphere! The breakfast is delicious: coffee, fresh tropical fruits, bread and... I stayed here the night before I flew home from SJO airport. The moment I arrived with four of my friends, we felt welcome and at ease here. The decor is charming, and the staff are warm and friendly. Even though I speak very little Spanish, and most of the staff I encountered spoke little English, everyone was very friendly... More

The staff were always very helpful, though not everyone spoke much English. We had a room at the front though, and the road at the front is busy from 0500, especially the motorbikes, so even with earplugs in, it was too loud to sleep. I'd recommend trying to get a room at the back. The walls are quite thin also.

We stayed at Hotel Pacande the night we arrived in Costa Rica and the night before we left, as it was only a 5-10 minute taxi ride to SJO airport. The hotel is fairly simple but clean, comfortable, and has great character. Everyone working there (they seemed like a family but I wasn't sure?) was so friendly and helpful. Our... More
