Located less than one hour from the San Jose (Juan Santamaria) Airport, the Peace Lodge is the perfect place to begin or end your vacation. You don't need to spend your first or last day in a city hotel. Please come spend them in the rain and cloud forest with us and still be close to the airport. We are also only 20 minutes from the Poas Volcano, another "must see" attraction in Costa Rica.

We had a horrible experience staying at Peace Lodge during Thanksgiving week. Stay away from this place for your safety. We got robbed on the second day of our stay and lost around $6000 (phone and laptops). My review is solely directed at the hotel management - which never bothered to call us to apologize or offer to compensate for our losses. The staff was super helpful, but they didn’t have the authority to resolve the case entirely. Let me explain what happened: This hotel unreasonably doesn’t care about their handling of your room or belongings. They let anyone get into their hotel without asking anything. even worse, anybody could get into your room as there’s no security whatsoever there. On our second day at Peace Lodge, we returned to our room only to discover a stranger was in our room! When we asked who he was and what he was doing in the room, he claimed to be a guest at the hotel. He said he just got confused and entered the wrong room. We asked how did he get in, as you need to have an entrance key to enter. He said he was able to open the door. He then apologized and quickly disappeared. We suddenly realized our laptops and phones were missing. The guy was carrying a backpack, so our stuff was inside his bag. I chased him, but he was gone already. I immediately ran to the front desk, and within minutes a few personnel started checking the cameras. Meanwhile, I went back to the room to check the safe. I tried to open the safe, but it kept giving me an error .. it was because the thief had tried it so many times. Long story short, security came up, and they used some master key to open it up for us, and fortunately, our documents were still there. Security claimed no one came into our room according to their records of the door key. But then they saw the guy on one of the cameras. Apparently he just passed the reception with no issue at all. He then went directly to our room and quickly got in. We were only 20 meters away from our room - in a hut tub. He probably even knew this. What makes this even more suspicious is that my wife was in the room’s bathroom earlier in the day. She realized someone had come in - one of the maids. The maid didn’t notice my wife was in the room and had started just texting someone. She didn’t have any cleaning materials or anything. My wife surprised her, asking what she’s doing in the room alone and especially with no tools. The maid said she was there for cleaning, then left and never came back! I don’t want to point fingers at what happened here, but so many things went wrong. This ruined our entire vacation and we just didn’t feel safe there anymore. We called the police to report this, they came to the hotel and even though we had pictures of the guy, his car, the loaction of the phone (find my iphone) they did nothing. We left early the following day with absolutely no word from the management as to how they will compensate us for our losses. Only the staff told us they would refund the hotel charges, which is nothing comparable to our losses and our horrible experience This is an experience I want to put behind me. It is definitely on the hotel management to deal with this, and they handled this terribly. I just hope future guests know what they are signing up for when staying at Peace Lodge.

After BA rescheduled our flight via Miami, we arrived after 19 hours of travelling. Being under an hour from the airport made this the perfect place to stay. Rooms were fab and the bathrooms a special feature with their own waterfall! However, the amazing views were the highlight from our balcony complete with jacuzzi. We utilised the entry into Waterfall Gardens before they are open to the public and the trails - especially to the magnificent waterfalls - were special. The birds and animals were well cared for and great to see close up. We paid to feed the sloths, toucans and hummingbirds. Our guide, Michael was brilliant and this was a totally unique experience we will never forget. Our only slight negative was that evening meal options were very limited and our food was rarely more than warm when it arrived. We stayed for 3 nights and this was enough to easily see everything. Definitely recommend

OH MY! This was our favorite Lodge during our Costa Rica visit. The Peace Lodge is truly a dream lodge. The location is fabulous, the rooms are absolutely outstanding, and the park was so fun. We did the Toucan and Sloth Feeding, our guide Pablo, was great - very informative, interactive, hands on activity! We loved the Waterfall hike, Butterflies, all the different cats, birds - actually every area was fabulous. The rooms are by far five star - there were waterfalls and live plants in the bathroom, fireplace and kitchen in the bedroom area, and hummingbird feeder, hammock, jacquzzi, chairs on the deck. Added bonus, view was AWESOME! Please be aware there are A LOT of stairs - everywhere. So be prepared to step. The Lodge is well worth the splurge.

Another amazing stay at Peace Lodge celebrating our daughter’s 20th birthday! She would not go anywhere else- and the weekend could not have been anymore special. The grounds were immaculate (waterfalls, birds, and exotic flowers everywhere) and the rooms were such a treat- especially the rooms with the hot tub on the balcony. The tours offered by the Lodge were exceptional, and our guide Michael, was top notch- he was extremely knowledgeable about the animals, plants and birds of the area. Even the coffee plantation tour with Michael was great! Don’t miss the zip-line and horses- very good tours- beautiful locations- the howler monkeys were something to see in the tree above the zip line!! The spa was exceptional. The food was wonderful and very organic. The service was impeccable- every person on staff had a smile and a friendly greeting. If you need a beautiful and peaceful trip to recharge- this is the place to stay.

This is the third time I have stayed at LaPaz which is a mountain retreat in Costa Rica. I love the waterfall trail which is surrounded by lush vegetation. There is a wonderful nature reserve to visit with exotic birds, butterflies, monkeys and wild cats. The villas are gorgeous with bubbling hot tubs on the balconies where you can sit and watch the humming birds sip sugared water. There is a very good restaurant. This place is sheer bliss.

One of the nicest and cleanest parks I’ve been to. We arrived kind of late but even though they were closing soon they worked something with my group and we were able to experience this park. The water fall trails and animal exhibits are really some of the best I’ve seen. Worth it to go check it out for sure.

We decided to stay at this hotel on our last night in Costa Rica due to its proximity to the airport, 45 minutes, and great reviews. It was fantastic and our teenagers said it was the highlight of their trip! We were upgraded and our room was amazing… Sleeping loft for the kids, outdoor hot tub, amazing shower. The La Paz waterfall garden is absolutely beautiful which we really enjoyed for our last day in Costa Rica. The food was only so so but I would not let that stop you from staying at this unique and beautiful hotel!

Amazing suite with stunning views over looking nature. Delicious breakfast on the restaurant terrace that also overlooks the mountain. The walk to the waterfalls is really well signed, we saw plenty of different birds! Our kids loved the butterfly park and the animal sanctuary

We stayed our first 3 nights in Costa Rica here. It's an expensive property but you do have an exceptional park right out your door. The staff was great. Huge shout out to Michael who made our visit so much more special! Rooms are very nice. Fireplace, jacuzzi in the bathroom and on the porch. Porch had spectacular view with hammock, rockers and a hummingbird feeder that was busy all day. The bathroom is like an outdoor oasis. I just wanted to hang out in there! Coffee pot and tea maker are provided in the room. The mini bar fridge even had milk available for my coffee! Make sure you do the animal feeding. It was one of the best parts of our trip. Lots of animals to visit (these are all rescues). Lots of trails. The Fern trail is beautiful and we only saw 2 other groups on it. The property involves lots of steps to get around. This hotel and park was an incredible way to start our trip.

We traveled about an hour to the Peace Lodge after landing at the airport in San José and checked in around 5. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff who gave us an overview of the hotel grounds, restaurants etc. From there we were escorted to the Monarch Villa and WOW! The room is stunning and every detail is attended to. My husband and I stayed in the primary bedroom while our two boys (ages 7 and 8) and my mother-in-law shared the space in the loft. The room is very clean, well equipped and feels almost like you are staying in a luxury tree house. The bathrooms is so fun with the jacuzzi tub and waterfall showers. We all really enjoyed the accommodations and made use of the in-suite umbrellas, robes and complimentary coffee and tea. We stayed for two nights and got an early start each morning exploring the park and waterfalls. During this time it felt like we were the only people there and had the whole park to ourselves. Our boys loved the monkeys, snakes, jaguars fishing for trout. Although the food is pricy, we enjoyed our meals at the restaurant and trout bar. On our final morning we paid $45 to feed the animals at 7am. We fed toucans, sloths and hummingbirds by hand and it was one of the favorite moments of our whole trip. Our guide, Michael, was so kind and answered all of our questions and we so nice to our boys. Overall, this was a magical stay enjoyed be all. It was a splurge for us price wise, and at this price point a welcome drink or included breakfast would go a long way but we loved our time at the Peace Lodge.
