Nearly 10 years ago, I stayed with two good friends to a big birthday celebration. Now, I am back — with my wife of two years. I’ve long wanted to return, and I’m glad we did. Romantic. Magical. Safe. That’s the start when looking at the positives. This resort is amazing… but not for everyone. First, the rooms have their quirks — blinds that had come off the track on our final night, ants marching, and a palmetto bug in our bed alcove too. It’s “glamping” as my wife joked. There is no TV; we watched Netflix on our laptop as the Villa (no. 15) has WiFi that is very good but has ultra high security so you can’t access many news websites for what it is worth. The bath products are eco friendly and are okay. We did yoga with hotel mats and loved that. Plus, our patio was huge and we could see the Pacific Ocean! Now — the barking dog issue isn’t different than 10 years ago so earplugs are a must. Random prescribed burns are a way of life — smoke comes and goes. The restaurant was superb at every meal. Kendal at the front desk and Alex (Northridge guy!) in the restaurant were standouts as was Luis at the main desk. The spa was a delight and YOLO experience at very fair prices. Now … the pools. The sunset pool is far for some but ask for a golf cart if you don’t want the far walk. It has an unreal view and jacuzzi adjacent. And the nature? One day we hiked 5km and saw in the property waterfalls. We planted a tree on a holiday in Israel when one plants trees. And it is all 22 minutes from the airport. TAKE A TAXI AND REQUEST ONE WITH A CREDIT CARD. The taxis are cheap and reliable. And they can handle potholes galore on roads suffering from COVID. On that subject — Costa Rica is very good with protocols for safety and air travelers should plan on being at the airport 3.5 to 4 hours before departing if you use the Lab Echandi testing site. For 65 USD PP it is worth the 1 hour rapid test needed to board a flight to the USA. Little negative things were greatly outnumbered by positives and would return in a heartbeat. Just don’t expect a TV, or superior bath products. And the bugs … they’re hygienic.…
PROS: hotel is located near the airport (30 min or less), with lots of hiking trails with different levels of effort, local cuisine menu, and many pools, the rooms are enormous . beautiful views of downtown and airport. CONS: the whole infraestructure needs better maintenance, specially the smaller pools, jacuzzi was not working . Is overpriced for the amenities it offers (and not all of them working at this time) Also, we were told that year end dinner was mandatory, fine , we were planning to attend anyway, but even though we flagged our seafood allergies 2 weeks before arrival... the staff was not prepared since they worked a one menu for all, so we had to skip on two courses... but pay the full price. And the dinner quality / cost ratio was not as expected.
Wow! Fantastic views, great decoration, large guest rooms with an amazing terrace. The waterfall ms the swimming pools especially the one heated are great. The nature is incredible and everything is well taken care of. Food is great and the staff really welcoming and caring. I recommend it!
The first stop on our Costa Rican journey and we will be back. The room was stunning the pools gorgeous and the trails we lovely. The food was lovely and service was friendly and helpful. The views from the room, restaurant and the pools were amazing! The artwork and the attention to detail with the trails. Highly recommended
Can’t say enough about this wonderful gem of a place. Staff was super accommodating and friendly. Food was delicious. Views are unbeatable. My boyfriend and I had the pool & hottub to ourselves every day. We loved hiking to the waterfalls in the mornings. Great workout! Also, plenty of nature to roam around and get lost in exploring. Super comfortable spot. Only 15 minutes drive from the airport! I would definitely stay again and next time try the spa :)
