Two lounges at the airport but if you can go for the one on the 2nd floor rather than the one below ground with no windows. AMEX/United lounge upstairs much more pleasant with a great view of the mountains. Give it a try...

Attention: If you are arriving late and leaving early, El Cacique is for you. If you don't want to fight the traffic and go all the way into downtown San Jose then El Cacique is for you. If instead you intend to quickly get to Costa Rica's awesome coastal and cloud forest destinations after recovering from your long flight, El...

If you need a place to stay that's conveniently close to the airport, the Hotel Cacique is that. It is located across the highway from the airport down an alley off the main road. That said the surrounding area is old and upkeep is needed. There is an old gutted out building as you enter the alley to get to...

Pros: close to the airport and cheap Cons: sketchy area and shower had exposed high voltage wires hanging from the shower head. We had an amazing time in Costa Rica. This was the only bad experience we had the whole trip. After leaving a review on airbnb.com he responded that we were "weird" and that our photographer (who dropped off...

Convenient place to stay for a quick overnighter before the airport! We stayed here both at the beginning of our trip and at the end. It's a mere 4$ taxi ride to the airport and takes <5minutes. Each time we showed up in the evening and Johnny kindly showed us to our room. It was all we needed with a...

This is a super cheap place to catchb up on some sleep before or after your flight. It's basic, no frills and a bit tired in places, but it's safe and clean. Johnny is just fine, think the people describing him as 'sketchy' might be a bit paranoid! He's not terribly talkative, but speaks good English and was friendly in...

I found the "Hotel El Cacique" though a hostel booking site online and ended up not staying there after a quick glance and a recommendation by our cab driver. The owner Johnny had responded to a message I had sent regarding availability (with a "yes") but did not respond to the official booking and said the place wasn't ready for...

3 minutes and $3 by taxi from the airport. Nothing fancy, but who needs fancy when the prices are so good for a room and a bed that are clean and comfortable. Johnny, the fellow who single-handedly runs and operates this place, is personable, speaks fluent English as well as his native Spanish, and will help you to meet your...

This is a great place to crash at if San Jose is just one more pit stop before/after your flight. Super close to airport. Stayed twice on my trip to CR. Not fancy but cheap, clean and comfortable with free wi-fi. Johnny is awesome, personally helped me out and great just to chat with. Good for singles and couples, perhaps...

I've stayed in many hostels and B &B's. This is expensive for what you get. Place is old and needs alot of tlc. Shower was sparking like crazy and the noise of planes and highway make sleeping rough. Owner is a nice guy and for a few hours for a place to crash well okay... but I think next time...
