My wife and I stayed here our first night after arriving in Costa Rica, January 2016. It is close to the airport and fairly cheap, and that's how it drew our attention. Our room (I don't remember the name) was large but some things were not right: the power sockets were not in excellent conditions and we honestly did not...

I arrived after midnight and did not get the friendliest welcome. Nothing bad, but just not very friendly. The bedroom was fine, but the window couldn't be closed, so there was quite some noise in the (very early) morning. There was only one bathroom, but besides these remarks, it was a good hostel. Alajuela is perfect when you fly into...

We used to stay at the Cala Inn because of its central location in Alajuela, proximity to the airport, and great value. However based on a recent stay we will not return again. I had made reservations about a month in advance by calling the hotel directly. When we arrived they had no record of the reservation and I was...

We stayed in a 4 bed dorm but had the space to ourselves. There was a fan in the room and a bathroom next door, but think it was the only shower and bathroom for all the non ensuite rooms which was annoying. Only one plug in room but beds were comfortable enough. Breakfast was scrambled egg and toast and...

Two of us stayed in a private room with our own bathroom for 30$ u.s, probably the best deal on price alone throughout our 10 day trip staying at mostly hostels. The room was clean, lighting was good, tv had cable, there was a fan. It wasn't noisy at night. Overall a good experience. The man at the front desk...

hotel is kind of in a sketchy part of Alajuela. Bonus was it was close to airport, breakfast was included and we did have a private room. Shower didn't work that well, they didn't give us towels or toilet paper. luckily we had both. For the price it wasn't bad just to lay your head.

I arrived at Cala Inn Bed&Breakfast straight from the airport. Unlike many other hotels in San José, this beautiful place is very cheap and also very clean, in the center of Alajuela, at a couple of kilometers from the airport. (I suggest to look for a taxi driver who isn't charging 10 dollars or more. AT MOST 5 dollars). Breakfast...

Do your self a favor and stay away from this place. Main reason is the stuf, which extremely rude and aggressive. Never saw something like this before in my 3 month trip. Second, the rooms are so noisey, my and roommate couldn't sleep after 6am.

This place is atrocious. It's conveniently located however, there are insects all over the place that will get into your bags, clothes, bed. You have to go through a locked gate at the front in an area that doesn't feel safe at night (even the receptionist advised us against going out). The rooms look nothing like advertised, there is no...

Clean room with fan, tv and clean shared bath for $32 (double). Ask for inside room (Poas) for less street noise. Friendly helpful owner. Breakfast included. Right downtown Alajuela. Close to airport ($5-6 for a taxi).
