Costa Rica is an expensive country but the rates at Cortez Azul were reasonable with private bathroom, wifi, breakfast and airport transfers included. Our room was quite small and the walls are thin, so you get noise from the street or other guests. Good location and the owner was helpful. There was an old dirty American who seemed to be...

The main thing here is the service. The owner is willing to help you with everything and he seems to know everything. The hostel did not have enough beds for my group of 8, but we were allowed to place our own matrasses in the rooms and use one of the sofas. We could pay at any given moment and...

The place looks like a prison from the outside but conditions are worst inside. The photos of this place on various website must be very very old as it was unrecognisable. Rooms are dirty (splattered bugs on wall etc) with thin walls some with holes in, the kitchen was filthy and unkept. We asked for a refund but the owner...

This is a little late but I totally forgot to do this for Luis and Hamlet a few years back! My buddy and I were backpacking through central america for a few weeks, and Hotel Cortez Azul was by far the best we stayed at. It was affordable, well kept, and had the best staff. Luis and Hamlet were the...

I have stayed in hostels all over costa rica, and travelled a lot on a budget and this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. Costa Ricans are lovely people, but not here. Rude, aggressive and intimidating staff member, dirty kitchen, massive holes in walls so very noisey and broken windows allowing mosquitos in, and doors with...

This is probably one of the worst hostels I have visited. There was noise all through the night, very stale air in our room, a big hole in the floor and cockroaches running around. Do not go here to enjoy your holiday - go here if you need to leave on a plane from the nearby airport. For some bookings...

This is our second time here, it's cheap and convenient for the airport. Rooms are basic but clean and the staff are really helpful. I'd recommend it if you're not fussy and just need a reasonably comfortable bed for one night. Check out Monteleone restaurant on the corner for a cook meal.

This hostel is cheap, clean, and has comfortable beds. I only stayed one night with a friend, but met some awesome people while there (our new buddy, George!) We tried to stay here on our way back, but they were booked, and we were very disappointed in the hostel we were forced to stay at (that was also twice as...

Spent 2 nights here on 2 different occasions. The rooms were both reasonably clean, beds comfy, linens clean. Some things didn't work properly. Management fixed the toilet but not the light/fan combination. Could only turn on and both at the same time. If you wanted the fan on to sleep you couldn't turn off the light. Was told to ask...

This place is totally underrated! Cool little spot with super cool staff. Room was a little warm but nothing opening the door and a fan didn't help. Had a rental car and they were very accommodating with parking. I've paid more to stay in higher rated places and was way more satisfied with Hotel Cortez Azul. Exactly what we needed-...
