The location is not that good -- still a bit of walking distance from the nearest metro station. The room was clean, and the mattress was good (which I liked). 1. However my room had no air conditioning at the beginning -- the thermometer was working but the motor of the air conditioning did not. I was woken up by heat around 5am and called the service and the front desk, who told me that the hotel didn't provide air conditioning after midnight and they would let the manager know about this. The next day after I got back to the hotel in late afternoon, I noticed there was still no air-conditioning. I called the front desk again. This time they sent a repairman, who eventually found it was the problem with the motor above the ceiling. And there was airconditining throughout that night. I am very displeased with the attitude with the front desk -- they should not lie to me. 2. The cleaning of the water taps was not very good and left some safety hazard. My back was scratched and bled by the water scale deposited on the edge of the bathtub tap, and I had to rush to a nearby pharmacy (fortunately there was one only three-minute walk away) to buy some first-aid items.

People working there are the asset of the hotel, doorman Ni shifu, front desk Erko, Sales Emily, house keeping in 17th, are all the best hotel employees. They do their best to help me in a professional manner. Always enjoy the stay in this place.

I had a clean, comfortable large room provided by the university where I was invited for a fellowship program. Everything was wonderful; I also used hotel’s gym. I am grateful to my hosts. This hotel is in the northern part of the city, about half an hour to the city center by subway. I do not recommend it to those who visit Shanghai for sightseeing. The city center would be more convenient. But this hotel was perfect for me.

We stayed here for a conference held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, which is 10 feet from the hotel. The breakfast had plenty Chinese food and some western food. Coffee in the breakfast was good. The room was clean. It has a shower and a bathtub. There are many Chinese restaurants nearby. A grocery store is right across the street.

I am rarely motivated to write reviews. But after my experience this evening, I feel compelled to do so. I went to the spa at this hotel to have a massage as I have a bad back. It was the most terrible massage I have ever had. I have a Chinese massage at home every week, and I have had massages all over the world, so I do know what I am talking about here.. This one ranks in the bottom two I have ever had. Why? First, the masseuse cheated me by five minutes, which is always annoying (although it was so bad I was sort of glad for it to stop).. Second, the massage itself was weak and basically consisted of the women patting my muscles with little effort or attention, and certainly no care or interest. Third, the woman laughed repeatedly during the massage and kept saying "big big", I presume alluding to my body (I am five feet ten). Fourth, when I went to pay, she and her buddy tried to charge me too much, then - when I corrected them - insisted I pay with credit card and did not allow me to charge the fee to my room. Fortunately I had cash as I would not have trusted this person with my credit card for one second. All up, awful experience. Oh, and this reminds me, we checked in to this hotel on a Thursday night. The next day - without using our card anywhere else in China - we had multiple fraudulent charges on our credit card. We had to cancel our card immediately. Ok, it could have been a coincidence, and we can't be sure it was the hotel. Maybe someone else in Australia fraudulently used out card just at the very same time... But after the SPA experience I am now even more suspicious. The only thing going for this hotel is the location as its near the universities. Like other people have said, the service is not very good. I can forgive poor English, but the staff are also quite rude. Next time I intend to stay in the centre and catch a taxi to the university each day instead of staying in this hotel.
