The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

The hotel is wonderfully designed with nice rooms. The breakfast buffet is outstanding with an à la carte section. Moreover the hotel offers afternoon tea. The staff is very friendly and discrete. The location as such is very good as well with sites nearby as well as a metro

Good stay at URBN for 7 nights. The hotel is partly constructed from reclaimed wood and bricks from the French Concession era which is a nice touch. The highlights are the lovely staff who can communicate well and are very helpful, as well as the restaurant/bar area with a great

Dear Chookas: Thank you very much for your very kind and thorough feedback. We're so happy that you found our staff to be lovely and helpful. They work very hard on developing their English language skills and ensuring that each and every one of our guests feels well cared for. I'm so pleased that you felt just that during your week's stay with us! We hope that you had a comfortable trip back home and that one day we may be able to welcome you back again to the URBN! You can see all the hallmarks of great design and foresight in what must have been a high end boutique hotel in its day. All the elements still exist but it is crying out for some love and affection. A refresh of carpets, paint and furnishings would revitalise this establishment

Dear SJIAU: Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us. I am sorry that, despite loving the design and location of the hotel, you felt that the facilities needed to be updated. Our engineering and housekeeping teams work very hard to ensure that our guest rooms and public areas are kept up-to-date and in pristine shape. We will be sure to check the room in which you stayed to see what we have missed. From all of us at the URBN, we wish you a wonderful Fall season. Best, Claire General Manager

It's said that nothing ever stays the same, and in the case of the URBN it is sadly true. It has lost its luster when it was once so perfect. The restaurant is worthless with a vapid menu and boring if edible breakfasts. Staff that used to be polished and multi-lingual with

Dear Austxmtp: Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us. I am very sorry that you were so disappointed with your experience compared to your last visit 8 years ago. I am particularly sorry that our hotel design no longer suits your taste. The umbrellas and furniture we have outdoors in our courtyard terrace are brand new, and the light switches in our rooms have been met with positive feedback from our other guests as it allows them to be controlled through a remote. I understand that you very much enjoyed your experience back in 2010, and I am sorry that you do not like the new ideas and concept that our hotel has come up with since then. Our restaurant's menu focuses on sustainable sourced seafood and seasonal dishes and offers our guests a chance to be environmentally responsible throughout their entire hotel stay, including in the food they eat. This is a very new concept in China: having completely traceable products that have been responsibly sourced from only plentiful populations. The rooftop bar has been closed as of 5 years ago. It was, indeed, a wonderful feature of the hotel, and I apologize that it is no longer available. Best, Claire General Manager
