my hubby & I visited some friends in china. We decided to go to shanghai for a weekend. Honestly I was hesitant to stay in a hostel, we wanted to stay in a nice hotel but our friends convinced us that it was not worth to pay much just for sleeping. Before we checked in, we asked to see the... More

If you're looking to go to Shanghai and are doing it on a budget, this is an excellent option given both its price and the location, which was very close to Renmin Square (on a small side street next to the Marriot). In general it was pleasant and the front desk staff were very helpful and the other guests a... More

If you don't mind being a few blocks from the subway (I didn't use it much) than this is the place for you. Conveniently located across from People's Park, this Hostel ws hardly what I would consider a Hostel, more like a Hotel. It was located behind the Marriott in Tomorrow Sq. a HUGE plus, so when you needed to... More

The last review was actually for the Mingtown "Hiker" Hostel not the "Etour", Mingtown has more than one establishment in Shanghai. The Etour is situated next to the Marriot "Tomorrow Square" and is easily accessible on foot from the People's Square subway station (Exits 9,10 or 11). We stayed in a Double room with two showers and a toilet shared... More

The Mingtown Hiker Youth Hostel sports a great location (10-minute walk from Nanjing Rd East station), friendly English-speaking staff, roomy and comfortable common rooms, and really good food and coffee. I stayed in one of the dorm rooms - two pine bunk beds with pine storage locker for each guests (see photos). The bunk rooms are on the small side... More

Although this is listed as a hostel there were many options and it was more like a hotel. This was an incredibly central location with great access to the rail network and also the main shopping strip of Nanjing Rd. We booked through Hostel Bookers . com and everything ran smoothly. This hostel had a great community feel with terrific... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
