The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

This hotel is in an excellent location and is inexpensive. It is a cheap place to sleep. There is a no smoking policy apparently but some rooms do smell of cigarettes and you will get call girls cards left under your door. It's not for everyone and if you're prepared for these things then you maybe won't mind. I like this hotel for the neighbourhood and only use the hotel as a place to sleep. It is easy to get a taxi to and from the domestic and international airports to here. Staff are not particularly friendly. The rooms are not spotlessly clean! But I don't think that matters when you're not paying for it! If you want a Western hotel experience in Shanghai this is not for you. If you want to stay in a great low-rise neighbourhood and spend your money on other things besides accommodation, this is a good option.

We stayed there for 2 nights Jun 21-23 and it was under construction, cost $50 usd/night, and we got bites on our shoulders and feet. I would never recommend this place. The floors were so dirty I did not want to touch it. The construction did not allow for sleep. The worst part are the bites.

Well the first time i stayed here it was ok, the second time was not good, now a third time I can say it was good again. Cleaned up the atmosphere a little, and the room was also very good. So maybe new owner? Or a change in staff? I will stay there again in September, I can again recommend this place. After my last bad review I owe it to this place to write another one. It was a lot better this time! I am happy the place is different again.

Starting off with more "call girl cards" under the door every time I returned to my room, gave an odd feeling of "somebody is watching me come and go", This is sick, the room above me must of been the action room because most of the night the "loud noises" of lust were banging from above...then the bathroom was atrocious, dirty, rotten wood, clogged shower and sink drain...nice standing in old shower water...hmmm. I left a day early, and they would not give me any type of receipt saying I checked out early. The rudeness of the employees were tolerated by me in the past but not this time. I fought with C-trip about this, and they too would not refund my money. Do not go here, I wont anymore. Its a nice neighborhood, but these owners are rude and never smile or any type of friendly helping gesture.

I had stayed at a different "Jing an" area hotel an liked it much, see past review. But now I find that this place is better for what suits me. Please compare this to my past Jing an review of a certain hotel. This one has (what I feel) a better room in general. granted this bathroom was only average at best. needs some small tiny maintenance as most hotel bathrooms do. But with that said, the beds are better, the room is larger, and the area is equal or not better than others i have reviewed here. The place is easy to find. short taxi from Jing an temple..Line 2 from both airports. OR walk as I did. probably 20 minutes tops. Changde straight from station to Xiangyang, go left, the place is on your right. Or take, Changde to furmin, fumin to Julu, julu to Xiangyang. Many places to eat in this neighborhood. and good coffee shop across the street called hug cafe, many new modern clubs popping up down the street, with high end wine bars and lounges. walking distance to the malls, maybe 3 blocks. also next door good restaurant called "xiangyang the one", but hey many many places to dine, it is China afterall. Other shopping in the area and things to do. very quiet hotel and street though. no need to worry about noise. staff not know english, but got me through. Internet in rooms, wireless in lobby. tea in room too. all in all this place is decent for the price. No frills, it is at its top price i think, any more look elsewhere. But I will stay here again in 2 months. and as long as it is maintained. I was in room 302, it is in vicinity of elevator but very quiet.
