The hotel is a little bit old, the room and the bed all normal. Good thing is with international power adaptors, convenient for foreigner's use. The staff there seemed not so happy that day. The room card seemed limited, only one could be provided, and must be returned, or you need pay fine. 10-15 min to the subway station, convenient... More

I arrived to the hotel to discover that they didn't have my booking... checkin took a while and the level of english was very poor. The entrance to the hotel is fairly impressive, however that is where it ends... my room was a standard room with a double bed... it looked that the room had seen better days.. furniture a... More

This hotel has some things going for it. The location is not one of them, the place is very far from the city center and the main attractions of the city, about half hour by car. The rooms are OK, mine was large enough and had a computer I could not use since I don’t do Chinese PCs, so I... More

The New Beacon is a Thai themed hotel with a better than average breakfast buffet. The beds were comfortable, but they put my girlfriend and I in a twin room instead of a double. The rooms were cleaned everyday and they have internet (cable only). The staff speak a small amount of English, but do not seem to know very... More

..in the room. I had a king bed with sofa, it was extremely comfortable. Everything was super clean, no complaints at all. There is also loads of amenities and two bottles of water per day. The clerks at the front desk speak minimal English. They are not oriented towards customer services but on efficiency. In the morning, it is possible... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
