I'll start with the bad. It took me 4 hotel keys and 3 trips back to reception, and 45 minutes with the night manager before I saw a room. This is a very old hotel run by the Chinese government. Once I was in a room, it was lovely. Nice furniture and linens, spacious bath, lots of dark wood and... More

This hotel was reminiscent of the cold war era soviet style. The elevators were ancient. The rooms were ancient. The girls who approach you prior to getting to our elevator are pushy and ancient. It was cheap and the only one that had availability in the area. Stayed for business but met most of my clients at the Hyatt around... More

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a tour, as stated in other reviews the rooms are rather old and dated. Bar prices are expensive and watch out for the little side bar which is really a place for hooking up with the local ladies. Plenty of choice for breakfast but hot food not very hot. I doubt I would... More

I directed a meeting for 80 people at The Langham in Shanghai and I had a very successful experience because the caring and nurturing attitude of their staff. They paid attention to every detail, they had incredibly positive attitudes and would service our every request. The sleeping rooms were amazing - very modern, well decorated and had lots of features... More

The hotel fee is reasonable but the room is a little bit old. Convenience and taxi driver easy to find out and get there.

Not great service but considering the price of real estate in Shanghi-you are staying in a million dollar room. However, be careful with your valuables. The safe in the room is not bolted down. We couldn't unlock it. It was about 930 pm and we had a very early am flight. I was so frustrated because no one would help... More

Stayed at the Shanghai Hotel in November, 2014 for 3 nights. Excellent location for persons who want to actively see the city on their own. 10 minute walk to subway (Line 2), which is very easy to use. Very easy access to major attractions (Ninjang East/West, Pudong, etc). Also provides easy access to restaurants, mini marts and related stores within... More

Good location is the main advantage of this hotel, which you have to weigh against the aspect of 'smoking'. Rooms are well kept and housekeeping is of a very high standard. Unfortunately there are no strick enforcements of "No Smoking' so there is smoke filtering throughout the hotel. No point in having a no smoking room if the air conditioning... More

I stayed here as part of a group tour. This hotel is in a great neighborhood, with tons of bars, restaurants and coffee shops. The jing'an temple subway station is just a few minutes away. Otherwise this hotel seems very worn, and though my bed linens appeared clean, other parts of the room such as the chair were unacceptably dirty.... More

Stayed here last month as part of Travelsphere Highlights of China tour. Hotel was fine - rooms comfy and a good size. Breakfast was good, but a bit hectic some mornings when so many people trying to eat at once. Free wifi available in lobby, but it was a bit slow.

Staying in Jing'an

Neighborhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
