The hotel is located nearby SHANGHAI metro station and within walking distance to restaurants. Room is clean but the bed is as hard as a piece of wood. Not many English TV stations and gym is very basic with home exercise equipment. The rate is surprisingly high for a basic hotel. Breakfast is very Asian and limited range. Staff are... More

With the budget chains offering clean rooms and reasonable prices, hotels like this have lost the reason to exist. Its old and very tired. Time for retirement or refurbishment. Like stepping back in time, to rude service, tatty bedrooms, and hopeless internet.

Not very spatious but well equiped room. The bathroom was rather old. Breakfast was ok, but the diner we had in the restaurant of the hotel was very good. The staff spoke enough English to make everything running well for me.

- Metro stop just around the corner, 10 minute walk. - Satisfactory breakfast. - Quite good beds (but still standard hard Chinese beds). - Clean. - If you book online, make sure you double check the room rate is the same on the form they give you to sign. We were almost down-sized. - We also asked for a window... More

Only stayed for two nights in October 2008 as part of a tour, an ordinary room, not a suite. Rooms were fine, pretty clean with toiletries and slippers, average size. Room had a UK 3-pin plug as well as 2-pin, so handy if you forgot an adaptor! Our air con didn’t work but due to the time of year it... More

A friend & I were in Shanghai to watch the Tennis Masters Cup so we weren't very particular with the hotel; just somewhere clean and nice. We picked this one because it was 2 bus stops away from the shuttle bus which will take us to the tennis stadium; that's the only reason. But if you're going to Shanghai for... More

I stayed here for a week. Good points - Nice breakfast which was included in the daily rate. Good choice of western and Chinese items. The service is very courteous and by Chinese standards, there is always at least one person who speaks English at the front desk. Taxis are always available at the hotel, if not the friendly bell... Thankfully our group stayed here for a little amount of time during our 2 wks in China, just 2 nights. The hotel is undergoing a re-furb, so the rooms may be better then... however... my room hadn't been re-furbed (well, I assume anyway!!). The carpet was heavily stained as were the 2 armchairs, wallpaper hanging off the wall under the... More

A Kuoni recommended hotel - however, not in next year's brochure!! Very disappointing. Rooms basic, but clean and spacious, this was the only good thing about the hotel, apart from the boutique in reception which was well stocked with handmade souvenirs, or tatt as we like to call it! Rooms on the front of the hotel very noisy from traffic... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighborhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
